I've always had a small interest in Socrates/Plato/Aristotle and those aspects of Ancient Greece, but I havent done much research on my own. Separate from that, I've also nevwr been interested in politics in our current landscape. But this video popped up on autoplay and i was sure that it's some super popular video and i was really invested and surprised at how well and eloquently the professor explains things, so i was surprised this was just posted a few hours ago aith barely any veiws. This is why i love KZbin. Some random dude will post a magnificent, free college lecture full of interesting things and i get to watch all i want. Great video, thank you.

Polybius provides government degeneration this way: aristocracy, oligarchy, democracy, ochlocracy(mob rule), monarchy, tyranny, then cycle repeats.

It is in the interest of oligarchs to establish democracy bc they dont meet (and dont want to) the standards of aristocracy and cannot rule under monarchy. They enjoy maximal freedom ( of moral standards of aristocracy) if democracy is more or less ochlocracy so that their tyranny can hide behind and therefore offers the untamed „will of the many“. „We are not different from you, we simply have more money“ ( plutocracy). Thats the NOW in some huge parts of the world.
