My mom got scammed years ago. Caller told her she had won a brand new car. Was asked for her card information needed to have the car delivered to her house. Right after she gave the caller her card info, she called me. Luckily I was able to call the bank quickly and put a stop to it.

Does the woman have dementia? I am her age and I am not foolish enough for o believe you can’t call anyone especially for Norton Virus or buying gifts cards as payment. I purchased gift cards as gift, each time the cashier asks to make sure I am not being defrauded. If I withdraw money at my bank the teller asks me questions to make sure I am not being defrauded.

Tell your old folks about these scams. They're too trusting, came from a generation when ppl were honest. It's not the case now esp in this digital age.

My grandma isn't easily to fall for someone thing like this, she can pick up on scams really easily, but i am worried she will fall for something like this later on down the line. A few years ago she got a voicemail on her home phone saying there was a warrant out for my moms arrest for writing fake checks. They didn't ask for money right then and there but they told her to call back. She didn't but she freaked out. I had no idea what the hell was going on until she told me. In my head I said that doesn't sound right. So i called up my mom and had her listen to the voicemail. First off they didn't even pronounce her name correctly, and secondly i have never seen her even write a check or keep a checkbook! She hasn't wrote a check in YEARS.

Typical initial response: Sorry there ain't nothing we can do to help you. followed by: "oh sh1t, we can't afford negative publicity. Refund the money, QUICK!!!!!!

From the comments I see people today don’t understand in their parents’ times people were more honest. We didn’t lock our doors at night until well into the 80’s. People could knock on a random door if their car broke down to borrow the phone. You can’t do that now at risk of getting shot.
@carollynt5 күн бұрын
Anyone who didn’t lock their doors into the 1980s was just crazy. My mom was locking all her doors and windows in the 1950s. Just a typical suburban neighborhood. Crime is everywhere no matter how rural the area.
@shaggydawg54193 күн бұрын
I don't know about leaving doors unlocked but I remember answering "wrong number" calls without getting duped. Back then it was simply "sorry, you got the wrong number" then hang up. Now it is a scammer waiting for you to answer their call.

There's a guy on KZbin who dedicates his channel to stopping these scammers. I got one of these emails saying that I was being charged $350 for a year of anti-virus subscription from Norton unless I called the number listed, my credit card would be charged. I knew it was a scam right away because I only have Macbooks 😂
@kenmore017 күн бұрын
Yes, that one is to cause you to call and they get you do do something. I don't know since I never call but I get those along with many others regularly. In fact, my morning routine is to sit on the John and delete emails. Sad but true.
