It is interesting that real old west clothing history is as, if not more, complicated, than firearms history. That's something that was often overlooked in many of the old western movies and TV shows.

Good morning Arizona Ghost Riders. It's Ted from Texas. In my younger days I was a living historian of a confederate general. Joseph E Johnson. I look very similar to how he looked. I am also a Confederate Reenactor, from North Carolina, and was Aide de Camp to our General Joe Johnston portrayed by my good friend, Craig Braswell from North Carolina. He lives near Bentonville Battlefield, General Johnston's last battle. Craig was the model for the General Joseph Johnston monument at the Battlefield. I was his aide and Cavalry escort for the 125th anniversary of the Surrender at the Bennett Place in Durham, NC. It's good to hear of another portraying the General.

Marcus, the only thing you need to BE a fashion historian is... to publish your experiences with historical clothing.😏 Go for it, my friend. The only step betwen you and your dream is publishing what you learn about the clothes you love. I could quote a certain article about the correct tension most likely used by late Medieval Europe men to tie the strinks that keep their hose up without neither sagging nor digging on their body and how that tension worked better with different string thickesses... yes, written by oneself 😀 (and that silly thing _was_ actually good for other historians (who didn't wear hose themselves) to know that a certain string found at a site was too thin to have been used for that purpose). If that stupid thing was useful, just imagine what *YOUR* findings shall be, my friend! Seriously, go for it!

Some people think that firearms are the big exspense. I have been looking into it and found that is just the beginning. You add in a couple sets of clothes a couple hats , spurs , boots , holsters and cartidge belts is the real expense. Good video santee

I love these clothing episodes. I have a few custom period items I had made for me. A US military wool vest with domed eagle buttons, a wool felt black slouch cowboy hat, a Civil War Berdan's Sharpshooters green wool Kepi hat, two square backed bow ties (one black and one brown), natural canvas, non elastic suspenders and and a pair of leather brown brogan boots with the rough side out. I find the brogans are hard to put on and harder to take off without my feet getting stuck in them so I'll have to figure that out if I want to wear them. A couple of non clothing Item I had made for me from the time period is a Canteen covered in black leather with a black leather strap and chain to hold on the cork stopper and a natural canvas haversack made from the same material as the natural canvas suspenders I had made for me. I don't yet have a period correct jacket, so I am currently getting a black wool sack coat with a cotton lining and black wool covered buttons, custom made for me and when its finished, I am going to get a matching pair of trousers as well. I am currently learning to sew so I can make my own period shirts as I have a pattern for 4 different shirts based on actual shirts from the 1860s which I want to try and make when I have some free time. I also have a pattern for 1860s-1870s era civilian and military trousers which I want to try making when I get good at sewing.

I am 26 years old and I make my own clothing too. On that time period I make sure it's the right freshcount. The Wright style buttons and I even make sure it's all hand stitched. That's right. You know I got authorized to my fingers. I still hand sew everything together. With the proper quality bread from the time period that means I only use pure cotton, wool, Fred or silk red or satin bread. I even do leather comments as well. I also know how to steam and starch a hat. And reshape a hat as well. I know how to make a hat from a woolha blank. I can make sure it's the proper wool pelt. And then I esteem it and shape it myself to make. A authentic time period hat as well. I make sure my suspenders are historically accurate to the time period even down to the leather ears, another parts these finest were tiniest details that you would overlook emotsocical reenactment, ones are quite common, but I make sure everything is handsewn hand on and everything. On the tiniest Detail is all 100% authentically accurate. I make sure the buckles in the back. Yeah, you're on the back of your pants where your spender's hook also are. Metal buttons, but I also make sure they're the proper type of buttons that they should be actually depending on the pants. I even make sure it has a historically, accurate made solid brass. Buckle in the back recording to the time period that there would be, I even wear a pair of glasses that I had custom-made for me that were 1835 to 1880s that I wear every day as I wear old time clothing every day I wear these custom-made stroked pipe. Cowboy boots. There are other leather healed and let us sold. I wear historical accurate, made suspenders with my leather. 1700 to 18 early 1800s pants, which I made. I also where a lot of the authentic things done to definest detail. I even turken. And made my own moccasins. I love sinew, instead of sewing. Fred ready tow closes shot as that's the proper way as I am part Blackfoot or more than purblackwood. I am 98% black Foot Native American. I always make sure my jackets are made out of the right stuff as well. I always make sure everything is historically accurate Dante. Finest. Drop the tiniest detail. You could ever think of it's not exactly cheap. And it's not exactly as at all, but it's very expensive, but I make sure they do. What I have to do I also have a rivet thing here, so I can put copper ribbons in the gussets, if I make authentic replica of the Levi's pants and yes, it's very hard to find nose fabrics. But like I said they are very rare as those machines from Levi's and the 1800s were. They fabric count for them, but actually on an old machine that they no longer make. And the remaining the fabric was being made in Manchester New Hampshire. So trying to find one. Of those working machines aint you and they're so big that it would be very hard to store it somewhere you didn't come up a will swap period of time, but. They weren't as accursed as I thought they would be. I have all my jackets. A dress jackets are aligned with satin or silk. I usually have my half lined with satin or silk as well. I have everything that's hand thrown together. Work jackets are usually lined with cotton, and winter jackets are lined with flannels or wool Or animal Fur I even make sure if I'm gonna go to a shooting range. I even make sure I wear the proper spell time period Bell Buckle and spelt. As I have a few antique gun belts in my family that date back to the 1800s. Therefore I took measurements of them as I don't want to wear the originals and break Em as they're very old and brittle now. So I took the measurements of them the West and the the West side of the measurements and made my own new ones at the leather and then dyed them and and hand tool myself. The proper tooling. Some are just playing basic as I don't want too fancy. I go to a guide to hoa. Proper 1800 casted Garrison velpics for my gunbelt as well. Even down to my guns, I buy the Italian replicas as much as I can and I am cheap as I usually buy usually on the clearance rack. Fix them and then customize them to make them look. Well, used, but nothing to hurt the to charity. Of the structural, the spinal or the strength of the gun, so if I want to shoot it, I can shoot it as I am related to john browning as well, not trying to Impress you but going to my genealogy that I've been doing. I am related to him play what you wanna BEL. I don't allow anything modeled in my house if I could. I would live in a log cabin that I built through time period authenticity. What is Stone basement and thick wooden planks and walls? Me out of log, a nice Stone fireplace. No electricity, no electronics, no frigeration. Nothing like that that's live my life like the 1800. That's where I want it. Stop. That's where I wanna live. That's the way I wanna live. I don't want to go into the future. I don't wanna go too far back but. The 1800s are good enough for me, anywhere from the early 1800s to the end of the 1800 weather. Pretty much a good year for me. I like it a lot and I live my life like that. I've done research and studies and all that as much as I can to live my life as much as I can. Like that

When the length of your stitch is not fixed by a machine nor by social conventions but by how much of a hurry you have to finish a seam (and/or how much you give a damn for the end result) and can vary not only from garment to garment, but from seam to seam of the same piece, you quickly learn that ALL stitches/length ratios are 100% historical!🤣

That’s a shame. Ah well. Guess she wanted to move on. I always liked how she managed to be authentically old west. But also had a slight gothic edge.

I have a custom made Confederate jacket for my outfit. The rest shirt, pants, and vest I got at a local old west shop that sadly, is up for sale and may close if the right buyer doesn't take over. I'd post a photo of the jacket and outfit, but... well Cannot do that in KZbin. The lady who made it used to make my Renaissance clothing and Pirate clothing. She made it off a pattern she got for the time period double breasted and all. It is pretty simple, with yellow piping. I still need to get some insignia rank for it

Clothing back then was so interesting. I do wonder how hot it was and maybe how uncomfortable they were in hot weather. I know myself, I sweat easily 80 plus degrees in that clothing would have me sweating like a pig.

You ever think maybe that all those people, like me, who wear a black leather vest are reaching back to the independent, hard working cowboy days? They are the most obvious indication of biker style now, riding that iron horse.
