I just started getting into Ark this month and these Basics videos have been great. All the information you need and thorough explanations done in real time made it much easier to absorb. Once I conquer The Island I'm definitely catching one of these and calling her Mothra. Thanks Phlinger!

Exactly how I used them. Just a first flyer to get a bit of resources back to base, scout, etc. I'm so glad you covered the tent trick. For some passive tames, I hook onto them with a grapple so that either they can't go too far... or I go with them. I tamed mine on Valguero. Just had to watch out for the hyenas and sabers that would sometimes patrol the beach.

Best way I've found for taming moths is with a Bola 1 thatch 1 ceiling, and 4 door frames. You can completely box them in before the Bola wears off. Easy and works well even with high level moths.

They still don't produce silk as promised, nuff said ^^ But I guess it's ok that we have to leave base every once in a while.

Yeah, they do, but they’re not Gachas. When you kill them you get a good amount of silk. I’m pretty sure that’s what Phlinger meant, since it’s pretty common knowledge. Flying a Lymantria? Not so common. LOL!

You also can't harvest their spores to make fertilizer or poison like it says in the dossier.

@@elseanorofark2563 In the dossier it says they produce silk. When a creature produces a resource they are not killed to get it, that would be harvesting. Cows produce milk but can be harvested for leather. Its how its worded is the problem.

When Scorched Earth first released I was so eager to get a lymantria. Something about a giant flying moth just allures me...like a glistening lamp...I digress. I was very dissappointed with its stats and utility, and I am sad to see it is still that way today. BRING US THE MOTH TLC WILD CARD.

They can also be used to go in the wyvern trenches just need a good saddle and a lot of health to tank

I had a level 3 lymantria stuck in bollas and it took all my 20 tranq arrows to knock it out

there is a toggle on the engram page, top right, that lets you see all the map specific engrams. Sometimes you can only unlock them on that specific map though which sucks.

Ok they lower stamina I had this crazy idea , if you trap a Dino that you are trying to tame And you get the moth to lower their stamina their food goes down faster so they tame faster , does this actually work or it’s just a theory?

YES! Somebody else thought of this too! I've done this on my scorched earth and ragnarok and its worked, or appears to have worked might I say. I'm not the greatest at ark

I may have to fully mutate some Lymantria for fun just to steal wyvern eggs. Im using the classic flyers mod so movement speed is a thing . Sounds like fun. I just love the idea of swapping a moth for a wyvern if it fails and still getting an egg

The moth should make silk in its inventory . It would make them more useful

These fellas seem like they were made to be carrier's. They have good health and wieght. Are small, hard to see-qnd-then-hit targets. And produce a necessary resource. Plus, if they can still use that Super-Slow-Spore-Cload attack, they can just fly away from ANYGHING. I would just have afew of these going going around to your different bases and farms on supply runs 24/7.

Good enough to lure an argy into a taming pen. The slowdown effect is cool but nor necessary for taming your first argy. I setup my pen on a rock spire so no risk of attack while taming, hut with supplies, and a tent in case of storms. Super handy.

One thing to keep in mind is that wyverns are immune to the fart cloud. So don’t count on being able to slow them down.

O.o how in God's name do people steal wyvern eggs on these? If the cloud could work like a plains chaf I'd understand it but it gose straight down. Plus wyverns would like directly hit you on the back of this wouldn't they? I'm genuinely curious how people do this.
