Cathie Wood of ARK Invest is predicting trillions of dollars in profits for these five technology niches: Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Multiomics, Energy Storage, and Robotics. Today we'll analyze these technologies as well as comment on the stocks Cathie has picked to represent these technologies.
We need to preface this information with the fact that ARK Invest primarily offers actively managed funds, and only 5% of active managers can actually outperform a benchmark. Cathie has a strong track record of picking winners, but some will be quick to point out her funds' underperformance as of late. We're here to put the Cathie bashing to rest and take an objective view towards these disruptive technologies. After all, if someone has $100 million per year to spend on research, we ought to listen to them.

You're most welcome. Great question on entry level finance jobs. Here's what you need to do. Let's assume you have achieved (or ideally) are in the process of achieving some sort of degree that applies to that aspiration (doesn't have to be in finance). You need to craft your story. You've always dreamed about a job in XYZ role at XYZ firm and you're willing to do anything to get it. Etc, etc. Craft your CV. Sit down and write a cover letter by hand, 5X, then hand it in person to 5 people at 5 firms. Cold call people on LinkedIn. Get aggressive. Stand out! I worked as a hiring manager for 10 years and I can promise you that the PHDs always stood out - that stands for Poor Hungry Determined. Be a PHD.

Unfortunately the most exciting companies in these disruptive areas are private. Is there any way for small investors to get exposure to private companies. I know there's some funds that are listed. They're hard to find and there doesn't seem to be many.
@Nanalyze

Good questions. So ARK believes there are plenty of publicly traded opportunities, thus the reason for this marketing collateral to support their active ETFs. As you said, lots of potential can be found in startups, so ARK will push people to their venture fund offering (we've covered this before and may do an update on it - our previous criticisms were that it had too much publicly traded exposure). You can invest in startups using secondary exchanges, but again, good luck picking the winners. In short, this is the sort of thing we've written about a lot. There are ways, but there's also lots of risk.

Really good video. With SaaS, will massive increases in productivity level the playing field, thus increasing competition and leading to price wars that destroy margins, or will the ability to use fewer developers save enough money to keep margins sustainable? The ability to automate much of development and not spend gazillions on technical manpower is definitely going to have a major impact one way or another.
@Nanalyze

Indeed you are right. Regarding increasing competition, large SaaS companies are working to entrench themselves pretty well do displacing them won't be easy.

I’m honestly not big on tech yet, I have said I basically let my index portfolio handle that and tech pushes it along ok enough. CW seems to provoke a love/hate reaction. I took time out to listen to her on several platforms and was left with the opinion that she 1) is a borderline tesla cheerleader and buying / pushing many of teslas promises that have yet to come to fruition. That’s a bit of a red flag for me 2) ark is very optimistic about its standing position. Good to have conviction. I don’t share it personally 3) when and if arks dreams and projections break into reality Anyone in the market is going to benefit, we are all just arguing over where the maximum to be had lies. I think I’m just more of a W Buffet style of investor and will continue to appreciate you guys and your dividend stock insights following Q closely with my own tweaks here and there. Great comment here! We're just like you ;) Most of our money is in Quantigence and we carry a tech portfolio so that we're eating our own dog food so to speak. Most investors start investing when they're attracted to shiny stuff. That's why we draw them in with tech content and then make sure they know that the only predictable way to grow wealth is by measuring and controlling risk. As for when the portfolios cross, I personally love that too! BTW, we have a Walmart video coming out soon that has some crossover. Stay tuned, and thank you for the thoughtful comment! Joe P.

If you like to drive, can't you just rent a cool car now and then at a fraction of the cost of ownership? I'm always so confused when people have this opinion. People would really rather be driving aka staring at the road and having to remain alert rather than doing anything else for that entire trip duration (sleeping, eating, working, reading, playing a game, watching a film, messaging people, giving 100% attention to a phone conversation). I think this will be game-changing as I would guess that vast majority of people do not care about the feeling of being behind the wheel at all. Of course, very insightful video as always!

Great question on vehicle ownership. In the U.S. outside of major cities it's hard to see where people wouldn't want to drive. It's the culture. Of course, that's one country, but one of the most developed countries, so we'll see how it goes. Robotaxis will replace taxis and Uber drivers, but the extent they go beyond that is a tough call. Auto manufactures are going to be in a world of hurt if people do indeed decide that driving is not longer appealing.

I don't get it, if they believe AI is a big thing, why don't they bet on Google and Microsoft who are currently leaders in the AI race? I understand that the theme is about disruptive technology so the point is to bet on companies that can "disrupt" incumbents. But what makes they think someone can disrupt Google and Microsoft? You can't bet on some random company simply because it is a small player. Or is this just a marketing strategy to lure more people to buy their fund without worrying about the high risk?

You seem to be well travelled, Joe. What are your thoughts on the best place to visit?
@Nanalyze
@Nanalyze 2 ай бұрын
That's a really tough question because it depends on a lot of things. One person's "best place" is often a result of unique experiences they had there that others won't be able to replicate easily. For example, I had my life saved in Havana by a Cuban special forces soldier and we became good friends. His small farming village had only horses and very little electricity and staying there was an adventure in itself. That was one of the "best" adventures I had traveling (I visited numerous times), but I can't exactly say "Cuba is a great place to visit" because my experience is a lot different than going to an all inclusive resort there. One way to define "best" is by the countries I frequent the most. Japan is an absolutely awesome place on every level - I try to get back there as much as possible. The city I love most because I live there and am a citizen of is Hong Kong. Asia is going to be the region of the world where you get most bang for your buck. I just wrapped up a three-month Central Asia trip and all the "Stans" are pretty underrated in my opinion. Joe P. PS: Travel is my biggest passion so you opened a can or worms here ;)

@@Nanalyze That's a whole new side to you we didn't know. I travel as much as my job allows. I've actually been to Cuba and like you say, had a totally different experience. We stayed in hotels and did tours to Rum factories, the bay of pigs, Revolution square, Club Tropicana and the sugar cane fields. Loved it, but prefer Costa Rica I think. I've not done much of the east, except for Taiwan and Australia. I had the opportunity to go to HK but didn't seize it. I regret not seeing it before it was handed over.

I can't stand her hubris in predicting price targets. Her TSLA $2500 price target ambassadorship early on - it was cringe-worthy even for Elon. Clearly just trying to get headline attention. She needed to be knocked down a few pegs as she was "cramerizing" herself with this silliness. That move to FLorida shows bad taste tax situation aside.. Especially Tampa S Pete. I did approve her digs in Wilton CT however. Her ETF's are heavily shorted for good reason. Some of her ideas are downright wonky.

Forecasting where technological innovation will take us is one thing. Profiting off the available options is another. People who criticize Ms. Wood don't know how tough her job is. If in five years she says, "wait five years more" then she's kicking the ball down the road but that might be for good reason.
