The Quapaw Tribe, forcibly removed indigenous people of Arkansas, has re-acquired a sacred burial ground in Central Arkansas. Theirs is an historic and hard-earned reputation for willingness to collaborate indiscriminately toward a shared goal of creating a better, healthier, and cleaner world.
Quapaw culture prioritizes community, focusing tribal revenue on economic and community development, including private health/dental/vision care and college or vocational tuition for all tribal members.
John L. Berrey, of Sperry, Okla., has served as Chairman of the Quapaw Tribe’s Business Committee, the primary governing body, since 2002, a period of tremendous growth and success for the 4,000-member tribe. He is part Quapaw, part Osage, and is a fourth-generation rancher on his family’s original Osage allotment north of Tulsa.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Sad that so many Native tribes living spread out over this *huge* country, were once forcefully crammed into one tiny bit of land (Indian Territory then, now called Oklahoma). Wherever i go in this beautiful country, and even where i live, i still always think of as Native land, because it is. I'm glad so many tribes/nations (that were nearly decimated), are now growing in population again, and working to keep their languages and cultures alive.

The wealth is in the Spirit that respects life and would not stop elevating our own or our others even if someone tried to pay us to lean in some way instead of standing tall feeling our nature having integrity, that is the reward. I have some Shawnee blood. I'm Arkansan. Our folks came the road from above Cape G to NEAR, answering the call of the Osage and Chickasaw message for aide in battles against the Cherokee who were killing to take hunting lands and wipe out the two Arkansas Tribes. Tecumseh and his brother the Prophet were among those who fought and helped preserve the lands known not written on paper but KNOWN by the tribes to be territory nurtured by Chickasaw and Osage. The Shawnee fought along side of Chickasaw and Osage for the victory so completely and swiftly ending the thefts and murders. For their honor the two Tribes donated 500 acres of land and invited Shawnee to come live as brothers. There were Shawnee who did agree to this adoption so to speak. My dads mother is one of those descendants in NEAR near the Mississippi in the county called Mississippi. When my grandmother was five her own mother, a Shawnee, passed away. She passed to her only child, the 30 acres of gifted land remaining in her immediate family. The land is still owned by us and we care for her optimal best outcomes. The farm has expanded while standing strong during many changes of agri laws and marketers of chemistery marketers. .The story I love is long and I would love to meet, re-meet in the open family among Osage. We love the land of Delta soils and baby her methods, protect them, as if every dirt clod was just born.

I am 82 years old, living in Jonesboro, AR. How can I meet with a Quapaw representative? I am not a Native American, but I am very interested in the tribes that lived in Arkansas. I understand the Caddo, Osage, and Quapaw lived in Arkansas. I will appreciate your help.

People stop judging by skin color some of the Quapaw have very light skin and some Had red and were known in the old days for being tall..some of us mixed with the french like me to survive they seem to have been the only Europeans who didn't slaughter us..a strange fact is the french married natives on Arkansas on equal terms but after the lousiana purchase they almost exterminated us

He is infact native American and is doing an amazing job as charman. It's so disappointing that my own community would disrespect the chairman like this after everything he's done because of his skin color. Do you not see the fault in this and it's racism by assuming he is a fake Native Americans.
