The mulligan rule is wrong you don’t shuffle in and draw you set them aside and draw from the deck (also you cannot start with a weekness in your opening hand if you draw them in your starting hand or mulligan hand you set them aside and draw a new card intill it’s not a weekness)
@JannPoo2 жыл бұрын
Correct. It's only after mulligan and after you replace weaknesses you might have drawn that you pick the cards set aside during this process and shuffle them back into the deck.

So glad I found this video. We started playing Arkham horror very recently (just finished the 2nd act in the base campaign) and actually made a couple of these mistakes. We didn't remove the doom from monsters once the agenda progressed and we ended the game as soon as the agenda hit the threshold even though I could have defeated a monster with 4 doom on it. Ah well, we had a great time and we'll get it right next time. Thanks for the video.

The Prey rule is a common mistake and important to be shouted out, however, I would have added a clarification for "Prey only" enemies, which are quite common with weakness enemies. (Core set has three of them.) These will completely ignore other investigators, as long, as they don't actively engage them. Similar to an aloof enemy, though nobody has to be engaged with them to attack them.
@elevation_games2 жыл бұрын
Good point! I think the bigger issue people run into is with the prey rule, in general. But this is an important distinction. We're working on a follow-up video and I may include this there. Arkham is extremely rules-heavy and a list of 10 really isn't enough to cover all of the common mistakes. I just threw this first video together to see if anyone would even be interested, and I was pleasantly surprised!

A rule that took me a while to grasp, when playing a Campaign at the end of a scenario health and horror damage do not transfer to the next scenario, I was confusing it with Trauma which is only applied when you're defeated. E.g if you take max health hit points during a scenario you start with one health damage ( 1 health trauma) on subsequent scenarios; likewise for horror if you are defeated by receiving the maximum hit points for horror, start with one horror (1 Mental Trauma) for subsequent scenarios. For each further defeat add one trauma as applicable health or mental.
@michaelpittman60682 жыл бұрын
One rule I missed for YEARS was the ability for other investigators to interact with cards that have actions that are in your threat area. In Eldritch Horror, some actions are specifically labelled 'Local Action', so I didn't realise that this was a thing. It is important for times when you hit a terror that makes you test your dump stat - you really struggle to deal with it, but a teammate might be able to sort it out for you.
@elevation_games2 жыл бұрын
Great tip! Thanks. That's definitely one that's easy to overlook and can help make the game significantly easier. I've been thinking about making a follow-up video to pick up some of these rules that I didn't cover in the original. I love the game. But there are a lot of rules to keep track of and it's easy to miss some.

Don't call enemies "monsters", "monsters" are only the enemies that have the "monster" traits. This can lead to the very common mistake of thinking that Lita can increase the damage to every attack against an enemy, but that only works specifically with enemies with the "monster" trait which are very few in the Midnight Mask. You also said that enemies exhaust after attacking, but that's only true for attacks they perform during the specific step of the enemy phase where you resolve attacks from ready enemies engaged with you. Attacks of opportunity, attacks from Retaliate and attacks from card effects do not cause an enemy to exhaust.
@markusschmidt92602 жыл бұрын
That's so true and important to distinct! In that regard, even more misleading than Midnight Masks is Devourer Below, where there will be an enemy with the Ancient One trait, that also lacks the Monster trait, and hence, Lita won't help you with it. (At least not with her ability to add damage to attacks on Monster enemies.)

3. You could elaborate more on "Prey" keyword, explaining that the exception is the "only" keyword in the Prey clause. For example, "Prey - *specific investiagtor* only" will ignore the closest rule, and doesn't even engages with someone in the same zone, except if some other investigator uses the Engage action. 4. Again, you could elaborate that Auto-fail token will result in a fail even with a skill test 0. 7. I might be wrong on this one, but you don't shuffle the mulliganned cards back in before you draw. At least that's how I played it. Edit: checked the reference, my way is correct, and it's more logical, since you don't want those cards to return to you when you redraw after shuffle. 9. Exhaust is notable with cards that have something like "This enemy doesn't refresh in the next upkeep phase" (quick player cards or sometimes on the enemies themselves). Other than that - pretty useless rule, since the upkeep phase is right after the enemy phase when they exhausted after an attack.
@Silverpicker Жыл бұрын
Wait, so if an enemy is engaged with you and hits your during the enemy phase, it exhausts? Does that mean it's no longer engaged with you? Does that mean if you move it won't move with you nor will it take an attack of opportunity?
@heymauriciosoares Жыл бұрын
Not quite. The enemy exausts, but it is still engaged with you (in your threat area). And after the enemy's phase there's the Upkeep Phase, and during that phase you ready all exhausted cards, so when it get's to the investigator's phase the enemy should be ready again.

@elevation_games may I ask, if the doom in play gets removed “from play” after an agenda moves forward including doom on enemies, allies, and locations etc. does this mean you can run out of doom/clues? Or does it all go back to the token pool? It’s a little confusing.

Enemies you successfully evade become exhausted, and exhausted enemies don’t move. So it’ll stay where it is during the enemy phase. Then it’ll ready during the upkeep phase, and if no one has engaged and evaded it before the enemy phase of the next round, then it will move.

hello, is that right when agenda deck advanced doom on cards and doom deck go away ?
@elevation_games Жыл бұрын
Yes. ALL doom tokens get removed. There are some cards that are exceptions to this rule. But they are always explicitly called out on the cards themselves. Normally, when the agenda advances, all doom is removed from both the agenda card and any ally, location or enemy cards with doom on them. This means that if you know the agenda is going to advance at the end of the round, you can go nuts with doom generating actions. Because it's all going to get cleared away anyway.

You got Peril wrong. Peril cards can be read out loud, but the other players cannot discuss it, offer opinions/advice or commit cards for skill tests. Only "Hidden" cards should not be read aloud.
@markusschmidt92602 жыл бұрын
I disagree on that. Hidden cards are added to your hand, so other players normally won't know what you've got, until you take care of it. I still would not read a peril card out aloud, before deciding what to do, as face gestures might also help you to make your pick. Of course, if it is just a peril skill test, you have to do yourself, so the peril restriction just prevents others from committing a card or playing a Ward of Protection on it, but there is no actual choice to be made, where others would like to chime in, it does not harm to read them aloud.

Are you certain on players swapping turn order? Sure I read somewhere that it's fixed?
@elevation_games2 жыл бұрын
It's easy to get this confused. Because, you are supposed to go in clockwise order, starting with the lead investigator during most phases of the game. However, this does not apply to the investigation phase. This is the phase where players actually do stuff, ie. investigate, move, attack monsters, play cards, etc. During the investigation phase, you can go in any order that you like. This is detailed in the rules reference, pages 24 and 25.
@MattCrawley_Music Жыл бұрын

There's no turn order, except when drawing mythos cards, then that's the lead investigator first. unless someone is playing Gloria Goldberg, then its any order.
