Be aware that if using velonasaurs, melee damage doesn’t effect DPS when in turret mode. Level health so they’re harder to snipe and stamina because it will run out. Also be aware that if using velos in a high Dino spawn location and they’re working all the time, they’re stamina will drain and they will consume a lot more food than in a not so busy location

Great vid, thank you for the solid presentation. One more tame that can help as a support turret is an Araneo. It doesn't technically have a turret mode and you have to force them to be stationary by over-encumbering them with rocks and/or meat. That being said, their webbing is a ranged attack with the very useful effect of slowing the target down as well as a small added bonus of making them easier to see (the web sticks to them for a bit and it visually stands out). This can be devastating in narrow chokepoints or around corners.

Yutyranus also have a turret mode that no one has ever put in a video or explored in a reddit thread. In a cave base situation you should be able to fear any Dino thrown out to soak (except rock elemental?) to have them make a trike turn around preventing damage reduction and ridden dinos

WARNING I had my rock golems as gate keepers on turret mode and every time I logged back into my server it was automatically disabled (while still being on agressive) tether your gatekeepers to a dino that is inside your base so they don't walk away from your base killing until being killed

Good video, my only critisism is not having the arthro, a very important corner holding beer running turret mode dino. I know. Word soup. My second is that the velo, you're making others think that on turret mode, that increased melee adds to the turret mode. It does not. 20 damage per hit. No matter what. On unofficial. No matter the in game ini you try to code. It always does 20 per hit via a velo.

I really wish there was an option to only target agro'd creatures, cause I don't want my dinos killing everything that moves, but if you have them on anything but aggressive it pretty much makes turret mode pointless. If you could only go after things things that were actively trying to attack something that would be super useful

You're pretty much describing 'attack my target'. They'll attack anything that attacks them, u, or any clan dinos

If your doing the ext supply drops it's better to ride the velo. Especially if imprinted. You do more turret dmg if your firing from it vs just turret mode

Just a tip for everyone if you’re using velos for defense which is the best option, only level up some stam and mostly health you always want them high health because you want them to constantly be annoying to kill and still shred whatever comes through.

I made a base around caging one with turrets so it kills riders and saves bullets. Unfortunately it almost never uses its special attack and puts out very little threat, not a good turret dino unfortunately, i wish it was though

And FYI every defence is useless when - offline raid - hackers on opposition - opposition is more knowledgable - opposition has better dino lines - opposition is rich - opposition is larger than you. - opposition is persistant enough to stay longer than you are.

Not really.. Considering that the ark devs fucked the game after the addition of titans.. All tribes including big ones have moved into caves Where the fight is pretty much just limited to tunnels and crouchpoints Slap a turret wall down pointing at the crouch/entrance, have a dps dino to kill any soaker being tossed out.. some people use the dps dino to meshbite players and kit them too (im aware that it is scumy but at the max that dino gets despawned when reported to a dev .. but you still win the fight.. which is still a fairly decent exchange). - enemy skill does not matter - enemy being rich or not does not matter - enemy outnumbering you does not matter - persistance does not matter

Things like Diplos will still push your dinos outside of leash range. Not a problem if you’re on flat terrain and they can just walk back, but sucks if you’re on a mountain or cliff. One option: it’s a little clunky, but you can have a secondary “guard dog” parked right next to your main turret Dino (velo in this case). Have the Velo set to neutral or whatever, but this one set to aggressive and short range detection. Then set the aggressive Dino to follow the Velo at a shorter range (or place a leash or have it follow anything set to passive, if multiple tames are parked there). That way, it will attack the fewest number of things possible, and can run back to it’s spot after each engagement instead of getting further and further away...
