Probably the purest soprano voice I've ever heard. This is exquisite.

The silence at the end really says it all. Otherworldly beautiful. She is still deeply missed.

It’s the security and safety she exudes for me. Not just the singing or technique, but the emotional and mental state she’s maintains during that really is missed in singing today. I want to perform like this

Thanks for posting this exquisite memento of Auger's artistry and extraordinary breath control. Whereas most singers break "in den Frieden /, Der voll Schönheit wartet, daß wir kommen" into several phrases, Auger takes a phenomenally long breath at 2:34 (15-20 seconds long) and knits the whole thing into one long, seamless descending phrase, taking a quick breath after "wartet". Her performance of the song has a rapt serenity that few singers match.

Yes this phrase is essentially 21 seconds in one breath... but in the second simply feels like a short moment. What a divine interpretation

Unfortunately to breathe after "Frieden" is what Strauss wrote in the score, and he wanted singers to go through " der voll Schönheit wartet, dass wir kommen" in one go. Here her choice may defy the composer's wish but it is the safer option - either can be spellbounding and breathtaking if done correctly. Cheers!

@@christophersokolowskiIn Exsultate Jubilate she sings the first coloratura part in a single breath. Likewise in the duet "Domine Deus", when she exchanges the high notes with Von Stade, she sings her entire coloratura in a single breath for about 20 seconds, not to mention that at the end of the breath she pulls out a B5.

Thank you for uploading this. It was removed from KZbin for a long time and I was so sad it happened because this is the best version of this piece. So happy it’s back and hope it stays :)!
