@@Tintin_desi_billa The PS5 and Xbox probably upscale 1440p to 4K when connected to a TV that doesn't support it. Generally speaking, 1440p is a computer monitor thing, not a TV thing. I'd expect the Switch 2 to be the same. Rumor has it that it's supporting nVidia's DLSS, so even if it's internally rendering the game at 1080p, it should be able to upscale it higher using a good algorithm.

Sadly, I suspect the price is going to be higher than you're hoping. Nintendo has proven the idea of a hybrid 'mobile/console' game system works, and both Microsoft and Sony are working on making something similar, so the market sees the design and idea as having value, it's no longer a strange new idea. Also, Nintendo doesn't need to make something cheaper than PS5, Switch 2 will be seen as competing with PS6 as a next gen system, so they just need a price that will be seen as better than THAT, and given the crazy price of the PS5 Pro, that won't be hard. I'm expecting a 450 dollar price tag, MAYBE a 400 dollar price for something like a basic system.

During the Wii U era, Nintendo games were either 1080p 30fps or 720p 60fps, and on several occasions both 1080p 60fps. The only exception i can think of being BotW. I think we could go back to similar days. The Switch might be the outlier because it's barely any stronger than the Wii U, and they had to push games harder than on Wii U. But if the Switch 2 or whatever really is a huge upgrade, then they dont even have to start pushing that console's limits straight away. Plus, like everyone else is guessing, DLSS might be their trump card for performance.

Yea DLSS is absolutely their trump card. They re-did the original chip (which was on NVIDIA's ampere architecture) and put AdaLovelace's Tensor/RT cores in place just to improve this even further. Ray reconstruction + DLSS 3.7 & beyond on Switch 2 will save Nintendo's ass here. Same situation happened with the PS5 Pro, it's not full RDNA4 and is instead just RDNA3 with RDNA4's RT engine backported afaik.

Things I want for Switch 2: 1.More horsepower for better performance, not necessarily graphics, just better framerates. 2.Themes or just some actual flair to the UI. The Switch UI works, but it is SO bland compared to what we once had. 3.Folders and better organization methods. Switch "groups" is not nearly good enough.

Aside from the things you talked about in the video, my personal wish for the Switch 2 is a simple plan and built in way for Nintendo to accessorize on the system. I’m all for keeping the base Switch 2 straight forward and no crazy gimmicks, but I think leaving themselves some ways to add a second screen or something similar for DS games, communicate with the dock while not docked to have a “gamepad” and the tv at the same time for Wii U games, and just in general give the Nintendo team room to be Nintendo still would be amazing. Big out there wish, but I think it would help the system stand out, allow for more backlog games to be playable, and improve its longevity.

I will say - this might be the most safe prediction of all time, but Switch 2 is going to launch with a new 3D Mario right? That was a tradition for many years and with the timing of Odyssey, and Bowser’s Fury, it would be extremely shocking if a new 3D Mario wasn’t going to be completed by the time the console comes out. Unless they were cooking up something else I can only imagine Mario being their console launch game, just like BOTW was for the switch (maybe Metroid prime 4 as a secondary launch title?)

I highly doubt it due to the corporate minimalist trend, but can we bring back the old charm? Nintendo consoles used to have so many fun sound effects, the menu themes on the Wii. Even Mario and Zelda title screens have been simplified and scraped of personality. I would for the home menus or the stores or at least the GAMES to have some personality again. Things like the lack of themes and customization options were so obvious that it almost feels like they were planning to release them with some kind of canceled switch pro, and instead held off and saved much of these things for the successor console

I know it plastic because kids are dumb and drop stuff all the time, so if that's a concern make 2 skus, a regular and cheap one for kids with a plastic screen, and a deluxe one with a glass screen and some other garbage in the box.

My ideal Switch 2 is a dual screen console, with the top screen sliding up and down instead of having the clam shell design of the DS, so we can enjoy single screen gameplay as well. It also streams data to the dock wirelessly, so you can utilize the console itself like a Wii U Gamepad, while the dock has a sensor bar functionality implemented too. The Switch Joy Cons are bigger, with the right one having the IR Sensor at the top now, so we can play Wii, DS and Wii U games without needing to emulate a second screen by splitting a single screen or emulating the pointer with the gyroscope that keeps desyncing all the time!

I want the Switch 2 to capitalize on modularity and use that to help pricing. Put most of the cost into the tablet itself and include some basic JoyCon and a basic dock. From there, if you want to play Wii ports, buy a special IR sensor JoyCon pack with a sensor bar that plugs into the dock. If you want more internal storage, buy several high-capacity SD cards for the tablet's multiple ports. If you want higher performance, buy the alternate dock with an external GPU (an extreme example, but hey, it's a wish list). Yeah, I think it's important for Nintendo to keep the price and successful base idea of the Switch intact, but what Nintendo does best is innovate, and modularity is best way for them to do that while letting the customers choose what aspects are most important to them.

The E-shop is not only bad on the Switch. Even the desktop version is inexcusably laggy. Other than adressing that elephant in the room, all I really want is a beefed up version that's able to deliver 60fps consistently across the vast majority of games. At 1080p that's not even a tall order, considering stuff like DLSS has been a thing on PC since years now. If they could work on the ergonomics of the joycons as well it would be awesome, because the current ones are ridiculously uncomfortable. An optional left joycon with an actual Dpad would be golden too. The backwards compatibility is also a must.

I agree with your fears regarding backwards compatible games not receiving any performance upgrades on Switch 2. They SHOULD play at better frame rates, but I doubt Nintendo will do what MS has done & freely upgrade hundreds of past games. Even PS5 Pro offers a "boost mode" that allows for better running PS4 & PS5 games without the need for specialized patches (it's hit or miss, but at least it's there), but I doubt Nintendo would do that. They'll definitely be more interested in selling us "remastered" versions of those games. Sony's proven their fan base will defend remastering last gen games, and Nintendo fans have shown they'll pay $60 for HD 3DS games, or $60 for a "remake" that runs at half the frame rate of the original.

my main wish is that they make it more comfortable. to me the switch is in an awkward middleground where its too big to be pocket-able and really portable, but still too small to really feel comfortable in your hands and have nice feeling buttons and sticks. either make it tinier (somehow) or make it bigger to where it feels nice in my hands and i'm not begging for some accessory, 3rd party joycons, or an external controller. Because right now, the device thats made to be portable, i mostly just use docked even though i used to prefer handheld gaming all in all. So now I just end up using it as a weak console that can barely run its 1st party games at 30fps so that it can be "portable".

Personally, I don't think Nintendo is going to down-clock the Switch 2 to the same level as Switch 1 when playing Switch 1 games. There's no reason to do that anymore. Games aren't designed around a single clock speed anymore. So I think that any game that is dropping below its target framerate will be improved, and I think that any game that uses dynamic resolution scaling will be improved. Those can be improved without a patch. It might even be possible for the Switch 2 to fool Switch 1 games into thinking they are always docked in order to get them to play at 1080p when the Switch 2 is undocked. But some things will need a patch: Increasing the framerate of games that are hitting their target framerate, getting games to go above 1080p, being able to take advantage of new features of the Switch 2, etc.

A lot of Switch 1 games should actually perform better out the gate, specifically those with unstable frame rates. If the issue is that their target frame rate is higher but they're just not hitting it, better hardware should help with that in most cases without any patch.

Re: performance updates. Individual games really shouldn't necessarily need updates to take advantage of Switch 2's extra power, unless the game was literally locked into a specific max framerate. A lot of these games, though, don't seem very well optimized, like Echoes of Wisdom and Link's Awakening. I imagine those will mostly run fine unless they are CPU-bound, but there is no reason they shouldn't run well on Switch in the first place. So I think, for most Switch games, the improvements won't be noticeable because they are already optimized for Switch anyway; there are likely very few games that really are pushing the Switch hardware that will benefit.

I'd love features and power and all that, but ultimately, its for games, and it needs to have a good game at launch that makes me go "ooh, want that!" I really hope there's a performance update patch plan for the Switch 2 with the original games. The small glimmer of hope I have for it is with Wii U your Wii eshop downloads could be 'updated' to the Wii U eshop version with a few added features for a fee. So they have a history of doing something like this, I just really hope and WANT it to happen so badly as there's so many great games that just look mediocre on a bigger TV. Even just a mild bump in resolution with AI/DLSS upscaling to 4k, some anti-aliasing stuff, etc. along with more stable frame rates would be a huge deal and make games like Tears of the Kingdom actually look as good on a large TV as they should.

I dunno about that. Nintendo tends to price remasters at the full 60 dollar price, so that sounds like it would get real expensive real quick. Also, something tells me Nintendo is not going to remaster any of the gamecube Mario Party titles, as they would compete with their new Mario Party games. There are also probably other gamecube titles that are unlikely to be remastered which I am not thinking of just now.

True, but imagine if Metroid Prime released on NSO as a 1:1 Gamecube emulated release, we wouldn't be getting the upgrades we got in the remaster and a well priced one at that too. Plus other major titles like Wind Waker and Super Mario Sunshine have had the remaster treatment and are a few clicks away from being ported to Switch 2, along with many third party games from that era already having successful re-releases. The case can be made for games like Mario Party, Double Dash, Melee and other games that have no need to be remastered or likely wouldn't otherwise. Wario Ware and Chibi Robo also come to mind.
