I was a crew chief on Chinooks for 6 years (OIF). The information you provided here sounds like it comes from directly from army aviation manuals and the pearls of wisdom that old crusty CW4s give to the new pilots during the countless training flight needed before combat operations. Great job, enjoyed it a bunch.

I've now watched the entire Art of Flight and tried a few practice runs in the MH8-Hummingbird. It went horrible, but I had my first landing without auto-hovor. And considering I got over 200 hours of flight in DayZ, I'm both alittle embarrassed and also proud. Ambivilance at it's best. Time for more of your videos and also some more practice. It's now 23:05, it's getting dangerously close to what should be my bedtime. But you are just too good to stop watching man! Keep up the good work, and hopefully soon more of this Art of Flight!

I think it would be pretty cool to see a scenario with randomly generated enemy forces around the island, which both include small arm forces and large AA units. This would be good to allow people to practice piloting and many aspects of it. The scenario could also include tasks such as troop transport or cargo transport to give the player something to try and allowing the player to pilot differently depending on the situation of the tasks.

It's more than time and money and technical know-how. Watch Dslyecxi's video where he answers personal questions and talks about the immense work and heartburn it takes to run such an organization. Since actually getting into ShackTac is like making it into a pro sports team, I was thinking of starting a group myself. I'll soon have the time and money, but I'm a techno-moron, so I thought of recruiting someone in the know. When I watched Dslyecxi's video, I realized that I hadn't even considered the pain of dealing with the actual running of such an enterprise. It makes his success all the more impressive.

Qarlo99 Yes. Well.. A community such as ST is just a dream, and will always be just that. So I would never even aim for something like that. Low ambitions perhaps... ;)
@AFOKHAOS10 жыл бұрын
Neeken You just need to be willing stick with it for the long haul and push through and ensuing everybody has a great time at even the cost of your own. There will be really bad periods where sessions are not fun and overall morale is low but as long as members are understanding and have the willpower to stick with it and believe it will get better will help with the overall mentality of it all and push out of said bad period. You have to also be careful about how you do it, you might try to make it like another group and then fixating upon becoming it too much and neglecting many issues just to attempt to be something the group is not. It also comes down to the people apart of your group, you could have a 100 players in your group but 95 of them could just be there (or not) to play rather than getting involved with the group properly. It also doesn't really take knowledge to start and run a community, just the willpower to keep it running through thick and thin. Besides, best things start off small and then grow!, High ambitions are great to work toward but not necessarily feasible straight away. Aiming to also make it something to be proud of is a great thing to also work toward as it doesn't matter what other groups do (Although prompting the location) many groups will aim to be like the 15th Meu or Shack Tactical but that is someone else's work, creating something of your own adds so much more to help get that personal enthusiasm going.

Hey Dslyecxi, have you also noticed that the helo DLC also turned tail rotors deadly? Contacting those and the rotor is actually a threat now as far as I tested, so maybe a video for how you're supposed to behave as an infantryman embarking and disembarking helicopters could be worth the effort too? Really love watching these in place of playing, since my rig with the 8 year old mobo and processor is dismally inadequate by now, all thumbs up!

I'm interested in a video where you talk about trim, manual trim, -release, auto-trim and torque while focusing on mouse/keyboard vs. ideal controls. (I like to keep things as complex and thus interesting as I can, but disabling auto-trim makes the heli act unstable. Thus attempting to stabilize with manual trim, it seems like speed change or collective change require you to re-ajust manual trim.) If you have experience with it I'd appreciate if you share it somewhere in another video. Great video as always :)

Landing a helicopter is one of the most difficult things to helicopter flight to me. Most likely cause I'm big on fix wing flight sims. Hovering/landing like how helicopters do just feels unnatural to me, and it's really disheartening landing anything that isn't the little bird due to the lack of visibility you get. But that's what's making it fun.

Zachary Southard Not to put words in his mouth but it may be (as he stated) that he chooses to use M&K for ST session (for practical reasons) and AFM is not really designed for that. There's also an off chance that he avoids the AFM for fear that it might cramp his aeronautic badassery. ;)

Sick video Dslyecxi. High quality content as usual. I'm interested though to hear your thoughts on A2's MH-6 vs. A3's MH-9. Do you like the MH-9 as much as the MH-6? I personally am having difficulty enjoying the MH-9 as much as the MH-6, its higher speeds and extra 2 seats almost make it seem too good... although it lacks flares. Small transport heli's are by far my favorite to fly.

UH-60L pilot here that is just starting to get into gaming (getting a VR setup since it will simulate actual movement in the aircraft). Watched your video to see if there were any "simulator-isms" that made flying in Arma super unique. I am quite impressed with how similar the physics are compared to actual flight. Great job on the instructions. Felt like I was going through basic warfighter functions again at Fort Rucker! Everything you said was pretty spot on to how we fly...depending on your unit. Are you a pilot by chance?
@dslyecxi8 жыл бұрын
+JimLitzFilms - I am not a pilot, just an enthusiast. I have a bit of flight time in an R-44 (I have some videos of that in my channel as well, playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLQEd6zRLOafVTY2qAwcdObbhMKq5CZZzC ), around 18 hours IIRC. Glad you enjoyed it! Keep in mind that my Arma videos are about the normal flight model, so there are things in the advanced flight model that will understandably work differently. I did a different video that's more about various IRL considerations, for the DCS Huey - that one's here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nou8fp59a5iWgLc

+Dslyecxi awesome videos. Once I get my system built and learn the flight characteristics of ARMA (which shouldn't be to hard because in the army we use a version of ARMA called VBS2 for some simulation training already) is there a team you recommend joining as a pilot?
@dslyecxi8 жыл бұрын
JimLitzFilms - Not particularly - most groups will want people to be able to play a broad range of roles. There may be some very milsim groups that have dedicated pilot slots, but those can be a bit (very) strange if you've actually served.

What if you were presented in a situation where, as you began unloading in an LZ you suddenly had to evacuate pronto and still having troops on-board? Would you just exit the LZ and do a go around and land again or wait until the LZ is cleared (if possible).
@dslyecxi10 жыл бұрын
Virtual Warfighter Khaos It's such a scenario-specific thing. There are a lot of things that can go wrong if you try to abort an offload like that - it's most likely better to just eat whatever's coming at you and allow the troops to get on the ground. Taking off mid-offload will almost certainly mean that someone will jump to their death by accident due to not hearing you in the chaos, and in the best case scenario, you'll have stranded a partial element in a hot situation.
@AFOKHAOS10 жыл бұрын

I've been flying with the advanced flight model with a stick. I've flown the littlebird a lot and it has been alright, but whenever I fly larger helicopters like the transport ones, they don't feel more clumsier like what I'd expect but instead they're much more responsive and sensitive. Is this is a bug or is there a reasonable explanation for this? It feels as if every time I'm going to fly a large helicopter I should tone down the sensitivities to make it easier. Do they just have so much more powerful engines?
