All i can tell you for certain is that some number of people are dying on Armageddon right now and will continue doing that for the forseeable future. I remember to this day one of my earliest exposures to 40k... I found files onlide for an old board game about First War for Armageddon. One side supposed to play as Imperials, another as orks. Each unit had stats, like Attack, Toughness, Initiative etc. If I remember correctly, you could play it standalone, or use as a visual guide for a campaign set on Armageddon. I remember playing in the 2000s "Armageddon campaign" . You would play your game and turn your results in and the store you play in would submit those and there was a live online map that would show you how the war was going. And the different regions of our world were the different battlegrounds of Armageddon. I might still have pictures of that map.
