Deeply Dippy
Richard is surprisingly appalled by what a sex robot inventor is planning for his sex robot and reeling from the brutal combo of no sleep and attending a funeral, but life goes on and it’s laughter all the way (until the end when it gets a bit bleak) with left-wing Stalin apologist Armando Iannucci.
Armando reveals a surprising friendship with a 1990s pop group and the dark underside of Michael Palin before trying to ascertain who is worst: Weinstein, Stalin or James Corden. Rich gets busted about his behaviour at the “Death of Stalin” premiere and there’s lots of chat about this excellent film and how being a director has changed Iannucci into a megalomaniac. Plus find out what happened when Armando started to learn the piano in his 40s and his near death experiences on holiday and how he has once again managed to copy all of Richard’s ideas and pass them off as his own.

How lucky we are that Armandos parents spurned all others, took the directions they did to meet and create this wonderful man.

That moment from about 24:50 on I've watched about 20 times. I know Armando is too busy to appear every week, but can we please have him every _other_ week? (I'm quite pleased with myself for time stamping it so I can return and revisit that moment at will.)

8:34 Perhaps the biggest laugh in the history of RHLSTP RHLSTP. I have no control laugh against which it can be measured, but anecdotally, it made me jump while listening on the bus and elicited a few surprised reactions from fellow passengers.

Great Podcast. Would love it if you could get Scott Gibson on. I’ve seen him 3 times over the last year and he’s one of the best up and coming comedians I’ve ever heard.

OH MY GOD. I am also Scottish Italian, went to school in Scotland and have almost exactly the same ghost story. Armando, get in touch, we clearly need to confront some kind of racist schoolchild ghost.

Keen editing on lining up the camera footage of skiing (which is so blurry I think I saw a Bigfoot in the background, nice that hyper-technology modern mobile phones still wistfully long to be 20th generation VHS copies) with the narration. Would have gained an extra mark if it was inset in the corner, but that's nitpicking. B- for Chris Evans (not that one).

I'm a pro mastering engineer sitting in my studio listening to this. There's a fair bit of room ambience but not much in the way of a resonant peak. Check your gear or EQ a little notch in the mid to taste if you can. It's only slightly off.

Time now to have a go at Lenin. He was a laugh. My grandfather wrote his final school report. Yasneva was a barrel of laughs and I`m sure people will be queuing up to be Dzerzhinsky. I have a few details and the stuff on Kornilov is still immune to Freedom of Info requests so you`ll have to box clever there. Glad you got Beria covered....
