This is absolutely the BEST explanation I've seen so far. No bias. No scare tactics. Just hard facts. I'm a soap maker using only essential oils and want to do the same with my candles which I'm now ading to my line. All of the other explanations I've seen so far on using essential oils would have you believe They're an extreme fire hazard, produce extremely weak candles, and therefore should not be used, needless to say, many of those explanations came from fragrance oil suppliers. Thank you for this.

Hi! I make beeswax candles, a mixture of 1lb beeswax and & then 4oz of coconut oil to decrease cracking and increase burn time. When I first started making candles a few months ago, I only used the minimally processed beeswax and tried to work only with essential oils. Following the advice of someone on youtube, I once put so much essential oil in my candles that the first one I lit caught fire! I had to melt that whole batch down twice, diluting with more wax before it was safe. Now I use a mixture of essential oil and fragrance oils (some even say they are made with essential oil!). I always use 10% fragrance in my candles and although the ones with only essential oil don't have as strong a hot throw, they do blend well with the natural honey scent of my wax and turn out pretty well. I feel like the composition of the wax is more important, considering you are also breathing the wax in as it is being burned as fuel for the flame, another reason I love beeswax and coconut oil. Thanks for this video!

I am actually using essential oils and all candelilla wax for my candles, and the hot throw I am getting is excellent. Cold throw is mild but smells great. I figured out the adding my essential oils at 153 degrees and stirring them in well is key. Thanks for the video.
@GoddessLaurel7 ай бұрын
As someone with breathing issues I find scented ones are usually waaaay to strong and headache inducing. It's hard to find unscented or lightly scented. The more natural and gentle the better, I'm definitely in the essential oils camp.
@KorraMea6 ай бұрын
Literally same but....opposite for me. Breathing issues and I cant handle strong scents (headaches and the works) and also have asthma, allergies, eczema (really shouldn't just be alive apparently) so I have to do unscented skincare products, soaps, shampoos, moisturizers etc. Buuuuuuut I was also cursed with an affiliation for scents so I try to find nonskin contact scented products, what I found is that essential oils are generally a NO-go for me because of the magnitude of compounds that are in just one essential oil that can trigger all the things I have. Can immediately tell when there's essential oil in candles when my eyes starts burning after a few minutes and my skin start to itch. I find that natural is actually harsher, because at the end of the day they're all chemical compounds and fewer variety of compounds is easier to isolate and control for sensitivity issues. It's hard but I try to find lightly scented, low throw, non-essential oil candles and use candle warmer lamps to avoid the combustion related triggers. Hence why I came to this video to maybe learn how to make my own that won't kill me, but so far fragrance oil camp for me.

I use 100% essential oils in my candles the trick is really learning to blend them so I’ve ended up learning a lot about natural perfumery and knowing how to mix top/middle/base notes is gonna get you a good scent throw for sure & also bring up the flashpoint for the lighter oils :) I don’t find them to be too much of my costs, but I also don’t have to pay for jars because I repurpose bottles so that probably makes a difference

Wow amazing explanation thank you!! 🙏🏽 I would love some advice with my situation if possible. I have only used fragrance oils in my candles so far. I am a holistic practitioner for animals mostly and was told by the holistic community that candles are very toxic and that you should never use fragrances in the home with animals as it can cause the the liver to be over taxed. I am aware that there are certain essential oils that are not animal friendly as I work with essential oils in other ways. I know animals are more sensitive than us so would it be best to stick with animal friendly essential oils in this case? Is there such thing as an animal friendly fragrance oil? Thanks! 🙏🏽

Thank you for this information! I'm just starting to experiment with oils, at 11:10 of the video you talk about low quality fragrance oil and show a pic of Candlescience, where I've been getting my oils (haven't made candles yet, still trying to find the right fragrance). Are you indicating that Candlescience is a low quality oil? I'm willing to spend more money for a better quality oil.

Thank you for sharing this video. I am in the product planning phase of launching my business and it was really encouraging to hear the positivity around using essential oils in candles.

Thank you! I have learned so much! I use beeswax with both essential oils and "natural" fragrances. Testing 4 scent combos now . My constant is the jar size and wax (with coconut oil and goat milk...yes, I live on a farm 😊) . The performance seems to be better when I combine the certified natural fragrance AND essential oils...my branding is all natural. Also, in testing the same fragrance combination I get a better hot throw scent when coconut oil is used rather than just plan beeswax and goat milk. I was discouraged at first when I discovered all the testing required BUT science/chemistry was my favorite subject in school so I'm really enjoying this!!! Thanks for sharing your wisdom! ~jc

@Steadfast Trail Farm I am wracking my brain to figure out how a candle can be made with goat`s milk. Can you explain?
@SteadfastTrailFarm2 жыл бұрын
@@bbnatural8688 sure!! It's just 2% worth but it gives a creamy consistency ❤️ There are many articles on line! Most of my candles now are pure bees wax or a blend of beeswax and coconut oil. 🙂 ~jc

This was very helpful. Can I use primarily fragrance oil and add small amounts of essential oil for the aromatherapy benefits?
@ArmatageCandleCompany3 жыл бұрын
I don't know much about aromatherapy, so unfortunately I can't really help with that. Maybe someone else here can chime in??

I run a company that is all about bringing positive vibration and lifting the feeling of a person or space. I make several varieties of candles that are made to give a specific feeling or vibe. I have some that are essential oils only. They do get some scent from herbs such as white sage and palo santo that are mixed in as well. Others are a blend of more natural fragrance oils that have no phthalates, nitro musk, or other things that are determined to be negative for our health or environment, and essential oils. I adore the products I make, but certainly have had to learn some specialty processes to get them just right. The biggest suggestion is to work at much lower temperatures. Hope everyone is doing well, staying safe and warm 💗.

I have about 1000 pounds of candle wax that has been stored in a garage for several years. It is in large homemade containers. Purchased from an elderly man that did candle carving. Some containers have a coating of dusty dirt on top. Is there a way to clean and filter each container of wax to make it useable for wax melts, poured candles etc. or is it a lost cause and only good for campfire color/scent “bombs”.
