I used to drive for Uber. Had some scary situations and I’m glad I was carrying. The one day I picked up a couple of dudes before I holstered up, was the scariest, these dudes had no destination in mind and wanted me to just drive them around while they had a few beers. I told them that’s not possible, and it was too late for me to refuse the pickup because they were already in the car. The dude behind me started flipping his knife around, so I had a sick feeling I was about to be losing my head. I was pissed at myself for the situation I got myself into, and was ready to jump out of my car when one of the dudes asked me to pull into the liquor store. They asked if I’d wait for them, I said sure, as soon as they got into the store, I was gone. That sucked. Never happened again though. Ubers policy is completely stupid. I’ll carry when I want and where I want as long as it’s my car.

For one, we were independent contractors, and secondly, they can't tell me what to do in my personal vehicle. I started driving Uber X where the clients were more professional, but still, you have to be able to protect yourself in that business.

In Texas, your car is an extension of your property. If a company tried to tell me I can't carry in or on my own property I'd tell them to put a "gun free home" sign in their yard, since that's what they basically force drivers to do when they put an uber logo up.

40 years ago I had a CCW in New York. It had to be amended for business purposes. Notarized letters from the bank and my employer. A long process. My job? sole person working the overnight at a convenience store. Corporate had strict rules about NO WEAPONS, not even a club! The owner of the franchise said ... I'd rather fire you than go to your funeral. Three times being armed save me from being beaten at the very least and I only drew it twice and never even had to point it. Just drew it when they came back. The third time was a theft and they threatened to come back and kill me if I called the police. I just let them know I was armed and would indeed be calling the police. The bottom line is my boss cared more about me than Corporate or a law suit. He was a good man.

I heard someone make a good point the other day that the "just hand over your stuff" method may not be good enough because you could unfortunately find yourself on the receiving end of some gang initiation where they have to rob and/or shoot somebody. Keep that situational awareness up guys! Once my sister moved to a nice part of town the robberies started. 3 times they hit her house, or attempted to. First time she got cleaned out a month after moving in. I have a gun but never carried it because there no federal permits and I drove thru 3 states. But now I carry all the time but I gave up driving in 2016. 'The perception of wealth' I'm glad you pointed that out. Many people in society who are up to no good will often target the middle class, because they're easy targets. They'll steal from a Walmart, Target, Dillards etc. but not the luxury jewelry store. Appeasing criminals emboldens criminals. Giving them lead makes sure they won't do it again. The life of the victim should always have more value than the life of their attacker. When you don't respect other people's rights to life, liberty, and property, you forfeit yours. Its that simple. Don't like the consequences? Don't do it in the first place. Not sorry.

I'm in a local Uber fakebook group. SOME of these people are ones that clearly cannot work in a directly supervised job... Most of them don't even protect themselves with dash cameras. To expect them to do anything as smart as arm themselves is expecting too much.

Most states (Check local laws) make it legal to conceal a gun on you while you're in your car without needing a permit. If you drive rideshare, carry a gun, a knife, pepper spray, a stick, whatever. Also, a fake wallet, fake car keys and make sure you don't have anything with your address in your car (even registration, one copy shouldn't have an address) Stay safe.

So true. Criminals are diversifying their procedures. In pairs 1 will present the "threat" of force while the second takes the valuables. A third might be waiting to effect a clean exit or assist if things go wrong for them. Smart criminals learn from the mistakes of other criminals (ex. news, documentaries, court proceedings, and jail).

I live in Chicagoland suburbs. Our governor is taking all of our rights away. I don't break the law and don't try to. I have a wife and she's afraid to go anywhere by herself because it's been multiple cases of attempted kidnappings and successful attempts. From the gyms indefinitely. We both got our gun cards and working towards her concealed carry. They are limiting us to so much so rounds and these criminals carry hundreds of rounds on them.

I think employers should Not be allowed to violate our 2A rights by saying we cant carry on the Property. Telling us we cant even ha e them in our vehicles. I totally understand not Bearing Arms while working, but employers can violate us with our personal property.

You couldn't pay me enough to be an uber or a lyft driver and we live in a small town. The whole county is something like 125-130k people. We have had two separate incidents at the grocery where someone has walked up on my hubby though. Thankfully they both backed off pretty quick and we know one was armed because he robbed a different couple not too long afterwards. Always keep your head on a swivel. Even though for now our state is red and we have castle doctrine, stand your ground and it's in our state constitution you have the right to defend yourself that could always change. So far there have been two self defense incidents in the small city closest to us and the prosecutor didn't bring charges to those individuals but that could always change.

Brother, if you don't mind the cold, I would have really consider other places that are more up north rather than Texas. I say that because I'm seeing Texas start to slowly become more and more overrun by Blue, and you know exactly where that goes
