Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters emphasized what the gun community has been saying for years that firearms themselves should not be vilified, but rather the responsibility lies with the individuals who wield them.
Waters conveyed this message following an incident where a suspected individual in his twenties reportedly initiated gunfire within a Jacksonville Dollar General store, resulting in the tragic loss of three lives.
Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said, “The Story’s always about guns. People are bad; this guy’s a bad guy. [But] if I take my gun off right now and lay it on this counter, nothing will happen. It’ll sit there - but as soon as wicked person grabs ahold of that handgun and starts shooting people with it - there’s the problem.”

@@texture6 Okay. That just supports what the sheriff said. It was evil intent, not the gun that killed people. Guns are also used by law abiding citizens to defend themselves from that evil. They rate of self defense to murder is very high. According to the d.o.j, it was estimated that anywhere between 500,000 to 3 million people used weapons to defend themselves in 2020. The number of murders that same year was around 20,000. That means the ratio could be anywhere from 25:1 up to 150:1. If those citizens had not had their firearms, how many of them would have been assaulted, robbed, raped or murdered?

Back in the 80s, I had a bumper sticker that read... _"Fear the government that fears your gun."_ That is more true today than it was 40 years ago!!! I'm 56. I got my first BB gun at 5. My Dad made me treat it like any firearm. When I proved I could, he bought me a .22 single shot rifle for my 7th birthday. My gun safety training was constant. For my tenth birthday, I got a 22 semi-automatic rifle. At 12, a 22 revolver. At 13, a 20 guage pump shotgun. And so on. My Dad was 100% constant and consistent about gun safety. In my entire life, I have NEVER had an accident with a firearm. Because of my Dad's teachings. I've NEVER committed a crime. Only once have I needed a gun to defend myself, and I never fired a shot. I held him for the police. I've used my gun twice to protect others; again, not firing a shot, but holding them for the cops. I would have fired if they made me, but I didn't have to. ONCE I went to help someone unarmed. A woman being beaten by her boyfriend. BOTH of them attacked me! Them damn near killed me! I swore NEVER AGAIN!!! I don't want to hurt anyone. But I'm not going to let others hurt me! Self Defense is NOT a Crime. Nor a Sin. (Read your Bible!) I carry everywhere I go. I have for 20+ years. NOT ONE person has been injured by my gun. The DC CARTEL cannot say the same. MANY American Civilians have died by their hands! In recent memory, Waco and Ruby Ridge. But it goes well beyond that. Point is, the same government wants to disarm the American People. History has shown us, that doesn't end well. Hitler did the same thing in 1934! But he kept his gun! It's no different today. _Fear the government that fears your gun!_

It can happen to any law-abiding citizen that becomes mentally unstable. I'm not for gun control, but I think it's kinda too easy to acquire a gun, personally... And I'm saying this as a law-abiding gun owner. The ATF form is very easy, and then all that's required is that you pass their criminal background check... I actually think that it should be harder than this, personally - and that there should be some kind of on-site psych eval to go along with it, to get a gauge of the individual's CURRENT mental state (just because they have no criminal background doesn't necessarily mean that they're mentally stable right NOW, does it?). I've started seeing it like this due to the Nashville shooting tragedy and the incident at that taco restaurant (to where that guy went overkill with his Glock). The ATF form does something to keep us safe, but imo it focuses too much on the individual's past and doesn't include their present - to keep us safer.

You've said in a previous video to harden security systems, but can you make a dedicated video on how to do that? But you CANT do that if you follow GUN CONTROL laws. Keep in mind, By Definition , criminals do not follow gun control laws. This tragedy is proof. The criminal was still able to arm himself, albeit even legally, but none of the victims were able to stop him. They didn’t even stand a chance because they were…unarmed. It’s not about keeping the guns out of the criminals hands (typical leftist-democrat mentality) It’s about leveling the field by putting the tools you need in yours. One might also argue, what about using police. Just remember this saying, “when seconds count, police are minutes away” and “police are not legally obligated to risk/sacrifice their lives to save yours”. This is the most level-headed sheriff I've ever seen. Even having to investigate this hate crime as a black sheriff, he still acknowledges that there was no prior history of violence or racist expression to indicate this guy would do something like this. What happened was most unfortunate, and I'm sure we all wish there was SOMETHING that could have been done to prevent it. But anyone with a working brain cell knows that taking away legaly owned guns is NOT the way to go. God bless this sheriff, and God bless you, Colion.
