So… OC spray sucks as a defensive tool. There’s a reason 90% of cops who have the option don’t carry or use OC spray. Negatives: It creates a cloud, even with the stream form. That means you will feel it too. The set in time can be quite a few seconds. And if your attacker gets his hands on you in that time, it doesn’t really matter if they can see. You can fight through the pain. I watched all of my classmates in the police academy get sprayed and the majority were still able to fight through the pain. And I personally wasn’t even effected by the spray. Like it literally just felt like spicy water on my face. Another factor is that if it gets all over your attacker and you end up in a fight with them, your skin will be hurting wherever you make contact with them. For Dogs, great. Against people, not worth it. Just my opinion based on experience.

About a month ago, I went on a mission to procure investment gold coins and I carried a pistol with me. When I got to the jewelry store, I was a little worried because there were signs everywhere that weapons were prohibited. In some places they also have detectors. They also had an armed security guard in front of the jewelry store, who let customers in. However, everything turned out well and no one noticed that I had something forbidden with me. I carry a T-Rex Arms Sidecar with a CZ-P10C and TLR-7A light, and two magazines.

I wish I had the ability to carry all that stuff. I know how important it can be if there's ever an emergency which pretty much every person will see at-least once or twice in their lifetime... but I'm just not able to carry all that stuff. I appreciate people that do though. Same with larger calibers and firearms. I can't carry a G19 or "compact" size firearm (or larger), because I'm skinny and it would print terribly... and I can't carry a more powerful firearm, because I have severe injuries to my shoulders and shoulder blades. Although a pocket .380 will be 100% adequate for 99.99% of all situations that people will ever run into, there are times when a more powerful round is required... and in those situations, they're REALLY needed. Not having one available in a time of a serious emergency could cost several lives.

Hockey tape is simply amazing. I have it over my Hogue Hand-all Jr. grip wrap and I also wrap my entire Vedder light tuck holster and over the wedge to hold it in place. It's a game-changer for me in comfort and securing the rig inside the belt from any unwanted movement. I've carried a folding knife daily for over 45 years and feel naked without one. I've tried carrying a fixed blade a few times but it was always too uncomfortable and much more awkward than a sub-compact pistol carried AIWB.

Thanks for a thoughtful discussion! Even though I'm a hardcore thumb safety guy, I was about to note that the safety on the P365 is easily removed, until you explained how you used it. Also, your comment about using pepper spray to keep dogs at a distance was good; unless they are in full attack mode, that 'puff' is enough to make them keep their distance.

The Immediate Casualty Care IWB 2.0 has served me really well, and since it's not on my ankle I don't have to worry about always having long enough pants to cover a med kit. The IWB 2.0 is a 3 pouch design, but they also have 1 and 2 pouch carriers which could work like the discontinued Phlster kit

Interesting EDC. I use my flashlight and knife so frequently that I never go without them unless flying requires packing the knife. I have Rovyvon lights on zipper pulls of multiple fleece and rain shells plus a pocket version and the 650 lumens, reversible clip and magnets make it super versatile. They only run around $25 so it is easy to have a couple on hand and not worry about losing one or not having one or more with a full charge. Super small too so no added weight or bulk. Pom pepper spray is also a must carry where possible with a 365X in an Enigma a lesser but consistent EDC item.

For a knife - I do carry a tactical folding knife that’s serrated with a glass breaker and seat belt cutter, but the CRKT drop point knife is an awesome tiny fixed blade knife that can be carried concealed for minimal effort and could make the difference of retaining your gun or not during a struggle. I carry it on my belt on my off hand side hip so I can use my dominant hand to hold onto my gun in the appendix position and then my right hand to pokey poke up a rib cage if need be - but hopefully it’s never needed. I think for a woman, it could be extremely useful for if god forbid someone is ever on top of you and you cannot get to your gun, if your knife is at 7-9 o clock you could still potentially get to it.

Thanks Tess. I am finally ready to start caring. Ordering an Enigma express this week. I will not carry a knife ever. I know people do and I will get slack from that but I would never use it. As for the medical gear you can sew a elastic band as a band or with velcro closer. If you do the velcro closer you can also sew a pocket on each side so when you open it you have your stuff separated on both sides without taking up much space.

A Benchmade knife is a must. I've sent mine in for sharpening twice now. Super easy, and it's nice to know I have it if I need it. Also an Atomic Bear Stealth pen. It looks pretty discreet and the clip is very strong and keeps my pocket flashlight in place now, which used to go swimming all over the top of my pocket with its looser clip.

The Shivworks Clinch pick is my go to defensive knife. I don't carry it every day, but its nice to have it in addition to my POM pepper spray when I'm going somewhere that allows knives and OC spray but not firearms. It is especially convenient to carry in the Henry Holsters omni-sheath with an Ulticlip slim 2.2 that I put on "backwards" facing me so that I can still achieve the same recommended downward angle draw when when I'm not wearing a belt and can't using the pull the dot loop it comes with. I also recommend a Victorianox Classic SD for everyday knife purposes. It has a small blade, a pair of scissors, a flat-head screwdriver and file, and a toothpick and tweezers, and it takes up basically no room in a pocket or bag and could even fit inside most wallets or on a key chain.

I sometimes have to wear a suit for work, so I dump everything into my attache case. Other times, when I am out and about casually, I carry my ankle IFAk in my backpack (more comfortable), since I can lay it relative flat, on top of my soft backpack armor and laptop, I can still fit my G19 and spare mag/holster in there whenever I wear preppy pants that were not originally bought for cc. I don't dress around the gun, so oftentimes the dress code dictates how I carry. Of course, I can't wear my ankle IFAK in the summer without looking like a dork. (Same with a fanny pack!) I agree with you about leaving the flashlight at home most of the time, during daylight hours. However, since I usually have my backpack with me, I just throw it in there. I carry a karambit, but the clip is hard wear on the pocket, and wing that catches on the pants to open also places wear and tear on expensive pants that are less durable than denim. So, that too, oftentimes goes in my backpack or attache. More often than not, my backpack and laptop are always with me, so naturally anything that I can't wear goes in the backpack - especially in the summer. I know there are drawbacks to not carrying on person, but again the places I go into, dont make carry conceal easy, unless I am willing to spend money on an entire new wardrobe, which I'm not. Thankfully WFH and dress codes have loosened up, so these are not major issues. I am most comfortable when everything can be worn on my body, but that would usually be in the cooler seasons, when I have a sweatshirt and jeans on. My knife and flashlight go into my left pocket. (I'm trained in Kali, so the knife goes in the left hand while the stick goes in the right hand.). Low light for the same reason, as I am a right-handed shooter, but can shoot pretty well left handed too. I carry AIWB.(And yes, I carry a spare mag, in case there is more than 2 people to shoot, like a gang bang.) I have a pistol WML too, so the standalone tactical flashlight is more for blinding people, searching in the dark, and is also used as a striking tool. My right pocket holds my OC spray for rapid deployment. Lastly, I wear soft body armor when shopping or going to places that can turn into the next mass shooting even, especially crowded places, since my bulky sweatshirt obscure everything. Even when wearing everything, I still have my backpack and laptop with me. I still don't like wearing my ankle IFAk, since they still print with jeans. I don't have thick stocky legs, so the cuffs of my jeans don't look like bell bottoms, so the IFAk prints, even when spreading the gear out on both ankles. But the options is there for extra IFAKs, especially if I am traveling with family and don't have enough room in my backpack. If I get shot in public, it will likely be with my backpack on still, so I am not worried about getting separated from it in a suburban environment. It's humorously what some friends used to cal my "murse". I'm usually pretty aware of shady situations, so I can always pull aside and make things ready out of my backpack or attache. I have enough non-lethal tools on me (in addition to decades of martial arts) that I can fight my way to my gun, if I had to. I'm still working on shrinking my gun to a G43X, so right now, the G19 is still bulky enough that I can only wear it with a sweatshirt, but it is an improvement over concealing my G17. Thanks for all of your concealment videos. They are very helpful for concealing what I have without changing my wardrobe, even though I use my carry-on bags quite often, when I can't wear all of my gear in public. They are also helpful in checking out if other people are carrying too. A little humor helps, so I appreciate the injection of that in. your videos too! .

You could make that grip back strap wedge out of JBWeld clay if you’re a crafty kind of person. I carry a PDP compact with TLR7A. Sometimes I carry an extra mag in a sidecar-style holster, and sometimes just the gun. I always carry POM pepper spray. I tell people they’re probably much more likely to need pepper spray than a gun, so it’s nice to have a less lethal option that will save you a lot of hassle versus having to discharge a firearm. I’ve had to spray a dog before when it chased me when I was jogging. That’s basically it. I carry a small flashlight only when I go out at night. I don’t care to carry knives and things because I’m a minimalist and I don’t need them very often. The only time I change up my carry method is when I use a fanny pack when I’m going on walks in my neighborhood or driving to the gym. I like the ability to take off my fanny pack in the gym parking lot and slip it into my gym bag rather than leaving a gun in my car.

A lot of people get really excited about EDC knives, but at the end of the day, most of us are primarily cutting cardboard, paper, tape, and glue. I keep a good fixed-blade in my truck, my workspace, and several around my house and shop, but on a day-to-day basis, I just have an el-cheapo folding utility knife with disposable blades. I do carry a Clinch Pick as a space-making tool, but I also do a ton of jiu-jitsu and can easily incorporate it into training, and I haven't ever felt uncomfortable if I forget it. More people need to consider OC spray, and I think men in particular are behind the curve on this one. In addition to your "deterrence trail" to discourage stray dogs, OC spray is a good way to warn off some fifteen-year-old wannabe that definitely needs a lesson in manners but doesn't deserve a bullet, and it's a great tool to respond to an attempted carjacking or close-quarters multi-person assault. It's also much less regulated against. It's not just for girls. I will, however, disagree on the flashlight. I would actively give up other pieces of my EDC to preserve my flashlight, because it's so damn useful.

My hands get so sweaty when I'm at the range, you'd think I was a human water spigot. That's loads of fun... So do you have a cutout in your holster to allow flipping the manual safety off after holstering? Do you worry about it being turned back on from friction on clothing or something? My holster does allow for me to flick the safety on and off while fully seated in the holster. The P365 safety is notoriously stiff. I struggle to engage it intentionally and have no concern that my clothing could engage the safety.

I hear that you can shave down the G43 SCD to fit the G42. I’d much rather have a perfect fit from the factory though. Time to email Langdon

Have you tried out the radian on the 365 yet? It will be as long as the 48, but softer shooting than most anything except maybe a full size steel gun. The price is the only issue.

Yep, get the Radian.

I currently carry a Snakestaff pocket IFAK in my sling bag for my compact size. In my backpack and car I have a larger one since I have the room. I’d be interested in seeing what your thoughts on their IFAK is. Very slim

Have you tried the Wilson combat grip module? I wonder how that would compare to the foresight solutions one you are using. They fit normal holsters as well.
@tessahbooth9 ай бұрын
I believe their P365 modules do fit in most holsters, but they've recently come out with some grip modules that do not, so it's definitely worth double checking before picking up another one. I've been meaning to try one of theirs, but I've been so happy with this that I haven't felt the need to experiment further. Thanks for the suggestion!

Do you know if PHLster does any discount codes? I haven’t seen any creators have like a 10% off code or free shipping code. Or do they do sales on big holidays?
@tessahbooth8 ай бұрын
They don’t do discount codes, as I recall there’s only one sale a year, which is on Black Friday.

Love it. Can you do another video about the position that you carry in? I know that it’s different for everyone, but are there ever situations where you need to deep conceal below the waistline? Do You ever have to switch up the position based on if you are going for a long drive, going for a jog, etc.?

I'm currently working on a video that will cover some of those questions! Thanks for the idea :)

@@tessahbooth thank you. I love your channel, I use your content as reference to help guide my wife into CC. I’ve been torn between getting her a Glock 42 or the Rose P365-380 for her first CC. The Rose is such a nice intro package, but I feel the G42 will present a simpler platform with less friction for CC regarding outfits, etc.
@tessahbooth9 ай бұрын
@@t3r083 That's a solid take. I'd be torn between those two also. The only benefit I really see over the G42 that the P365-380 has is the magazine capacity. When I wanted to start taking group classes using the G42 didn't seem terribly practical. I would be needing a lot of extensions, a lot of magazines, or both. If she plans to take specifically group classes with her carry gun in the future you may find the P365-380 as a more practical option, but at the end of the day the G42 will be slightly easier to conceal.

If Sabre red or fox labs come in a compact can would you switch over to it instead of pom?
@tessahbooth9 ай бұрын
If the formula was more effective then absolutely, yes.
@jason2009129 ай бұрын
@@tessahbooth one police tester who regularly volunteers to be sprayed says foxlab is the hottest and it's why they use them at prisons. He also said pom is all marketing and the formula does not seem to be accurate as he said it seemed watered down or diluted compared to the other 2
@tessahbooth9 ай бұрын
That's interesting! I'm certainly hearing extremely positive things about POM's formula from the expert sources I've taken classes with, but I'd be glad to look into it if you could provide me with more information. @@jason200912

Sabre does come in compact forms. As a certified Sabre Public Safety/LE Instructor there’s compact forms that are just as small as POM - the POM “worship” within the EDC/2A/Defense communities is something I’ll personally never understand. I carry Sabre or DefTec on and off duty everyday.
@Shieldel9 ай бұрын
@@tessahbooth It's liquid is clear which makes it VERY hard to see to adjust aim when spraying. It runs out very quickly due to the smaller than average size. The size of the can of spray has a direct correlation with the range the spray can reach. POM is one of the shortest I have ever seen. I sprayed a dog with it, and by the time I adjusted the stream (it was hard to see with it being a clear liquid), and I had to step forward to reach the dog, it was spraying probably 6 ft with a VERY light wind. In an attempt to make the product seem to last, it puts out significantly less spray per second than Fox Labs, Sabre, or Heatwave Napalm. If I had to estimate, I would say maybe half or less. If there was more than one attacker with POM, I guarantee you by the time you adjust the spray, on the first attacker, and catch them with the stream, you will not have enough to spray a second attacker. These are not "hypotheticals". I’m a private security instructor who has been sprayed a dozen+ times (I’ve lost count) for certifications and ongoing training and am a certified Sabre International OC Instructor for law enforcement and security officials. If you absolutely can't fit anything else in your pocket (maybe for say female pants with tiny pockets), yes POM is better than nothing. That said, any 2 ounce flip top OC spray will be SIGNIFICANTLY better than POM. Many states have limits on the side you can carry legally, and 2 ounces seems to be within the vast majority of states. 2 ounces is about 12 seconds of continuous spray, enough to easily spray a few attackers. Also the range on a 2 ounce is double that of POM (about 12 feet with a light wind). you can't go wrong with Sabre, Fox Labs, or Heatwave Napalm in the 2 ounce size. I personally like the cone shaped patterns as the finer spray attacks people's breathing quicker which in my opinion/experience is what takes the fight out of the most determined individuals. The only downside is you lose a little range (around 9 ft with a slight wind), and there is more potential for blowback on you. I typically carry Sabre, DefTec, or ASP spray depending on rather I’m working or not and have various sizes of OC in my rotation, from 2oz to MK-6 cans to cylinders (like ASP)

Great video. Thanks for sharing. Just subbed. With over 5k rounds through your p365 and the time spent carrying it, has the manual safety ever been problematic? Been turned on inadvertently while holstered through rubbing/body motion? Been left on inadvertently after holstered after simply forgetting to turn it off? Been turned on inadvertently when drawing and firing rapidly under stress?
@tessahbooth9 ай бұрын
In classes when things were going at a higher pace I would sometimes forget to turn the safety off after holstering the gun. I’ve never had that happen in the real world though. As in, I’ve never accidentally turned it on or found it on when it was suppose to be off.
