I use the Crossbreed belly band system that has a hard kydex holster that velcro on with super duper hard to move velcro. It doesn't slide at all, but I ALWAYS wear a tank top under it, just for comfort more than anything... I've worn it to work, 9hrs, walking around for 8 straight hours, but also bending, reaching, carrying heavy boxes, and even sitting on my breaks. I've never had any issues mentioned here. I also have never had anyone see it. I position it under my chest area, but I still can grab it & just practice. I did have a soft shell one with just the elastic with no strap... And Yax my gun literally fell out in the middle of a department store, hit my boot and skidded across the floor. I was so surprised, but luckily I grabbed it and stuck it in my pocket before anyone noticed. I never used it again. I also have an in waste band holster from Crossbreed that works great with the newer high waist jeans now, rather than the low waist I was wearing a couple yrs ago.... and still do, but I can't wear a holster on my belt because there just isn't enough room so that's when I change to belly band.... But I literally wore the belly band almost every day for the first year I had my LTC. I would try it if you're still having trouble with everything else. Crossbreed also gives you a 2 week try out period and if you don't like it, you can return it. 😁

The Brave Response band style holster minimizes a lot of these issues. It doesn't allow the gun to be pushed down too far into holster. It is collapsible, but not entirely, so reholstering is easy. It has a unique strap that pulls the grip of the gun inwards. It really is a fantastic design for those who need to carry independent of a belt or waistband.

You talk about having to use your "support" hand to open the holster but if you think about it, if your ever in a self defense situation and you use your weapon chances are the person you shot is on the ground so you can take all the time you need re-holstering.

@@SAR0311 I was a member of my Ship's Security Team from 1977-81. Qualified with the standard pistol of the day, the .45 ACP. On watch we were given two mags with three rounds in each. The Gunners Mate said it was to protect the magazine spring. What about protecting our shipmates and the weapons of mass destruction we carried? We were expected to stop a boarder with six total rounds. We carried our pistols un-racked. But my weapon of choice aboard ship was the 12 gauge pump shotgun. Great for clearing passageways in the confines of a naval vessel. This is also my weapon for home defense. No lights or lasers. Darkness is my friend... You are right. For some guns, my J-frame Smiths, my CZ75c, I would not be terribly worried about it due to the long, relatively heavy DA pull. But I do carry Glocks from time to time, and this is definitely a legitimate beef. Promptly ordered a trigger cover for $11 off Ebay. I rarely use a BB holster, I don't find them comfortable as I am edging up toward "chubby" in my old age and I'm limited in holster position due to a badly damaged shoulder. I can't reach behind my hip and pull a pistol up out of a holster. I have yet to find one of these belly bands that has any kind of sweat guard to keep the rear of the slide, hammer, rear sight from gouging the heck out of me unless I wear and undershirt and put the holster over it. Not comfy in Florida's heat. But I do occasionally wear the shoulder holster style with a western-style snap front shirt when I can't get away with anything else.

I rarely comment on video content, although I watch dozens of videos per week, even per day off KZbin. You make some valid points in this video - arguments that people wouldn't easily realize, most notiably about the inadvertent trigger pull while in the belt. That is a very serious design flaw. If you are carrying a gun in a belly belt all day, you would probably tend to forgot you have it on at times, which could lead to big problems if one of the risks you mentioned actually happened. I’ve been using a Stinger belly band holster for years with a Taurus G2C. Ultimate comfort, doesn’t print, and as hard as I try I can’t pull the trigger through the fabric. If I were worried about it I’d simply glue some hard material on the outside over the trigger guard. It I s sewn in such a way that it is impossible for the gun to fall too deep. The only change I would make is to put a thumb break on it, instead of the retention that uses the index finger. I can holster it easily without flagging my free hand. Every single argument you made doesn’t apply to this holster. This video just seems to be an advertisement for the holster you pitched at the end.

Thanks for the tips. My custom holster was molded to fit my HK and the internal belt system is great. My wardrobe doesn't support my gun, instead the holsters belt supports my wardrobe. It's attached firmly to my hips. I love a belt less wardrobe. So freeing all year round. Plus I can jog in this thing. I'm not battling a holster all daylong. Now it's wearing out and he went out of business. PHLster looks like a terrific option. I threw away the bellyband the first week (gun slipped out twice). Unreliable retention, trigger issues, reholster issues and just plain deadly with a striker fired weapon. I'll never go back to a wardrobe supported holster. They are annoying to no end. I got a belly band but then affixed a Blackhawk ARC polymer holster inside the band's pocket with a Chicago screw out the front and one out the back. I use bellybands because it lets me ride my Sig P365 and mags higher up comfortably when driving and because they are inexpensive. To mitigate all the safety issues brought up in this video, I simply purchased a P365 with the optional thumb safety. I know all Glock fanboys think thumb safeties are lame and argue that they make quickly drawing under pressure unsafe since that's a separate step to remember. But, I fail to see their point since I've learned from the start of my 1911 days about placing my thumb on the safety, pressing down, and riding it on the safety the entire time I have my right-handed grip on handgun. I just need to remember putting it back on safe before re-holstering. As for re-holstering, yes ... that's not going to be fast with a bellyband but it's the draw that I place more weight on when it comes to speed. As for more printing, I'm not concerned about that too much. Honestly, I don't care if others think I have a handgun as long as I have my CCW card on me as well. Some printing is at least less concerning to others than open-carry, which is also legal in my state as well but no CCW is required for that. I might look into the PHLster but I'm very adverse to to buying anymore Kydex holsters (plenty already in my drawer of never-to-be-used knickknacks) since I like to have an integrated light & laser on my handgun along with a red (or green) dot optic. I tend to swap out those accoutrements out when something better, faster, brighter, comes out. So, Kydex holders only paints me into a corner.

How do you feel about the crossbreed belly band that includes a kydex holster?
@stevesklar83343 жыл бұрын
One reason I use handguns with manual safeties - for holstering and unholstering. With proper training you learn to turn off the safety upon unholstering (not at time of full presentation) so you can shoot from the hip if needed. But then I was carrying a 1911 back in '87 which had a manual safety so I'm used to it. FYI, I do have a Glock 19 but don't conceal carry it due to my own safety concerns for EDC.
@MaximGhost2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Glock fanbois LOVE to say thumb safeties are lame but yet the U.S. military has had them on all their standard-issue sidearms for 110 years already starting with the 1911. "Proper training" with a thumb safety is nothing more than doing a high sweep down with the thumb as part of the strong-hand grip and riding it on the thumb safety for at least the first shot. (Not on the Beretta M9 though. Fortunately they fixed that with the new Sig M17/M18.) It's amazing that the Austrian military didn't require thumb safeties when Gaston Glock developed and submitted his Glock 17 for the Austrian trials in the early 80s. And now the lack of thumb safeties limits one's choice in SAFE holster options? Crazy. The Sig P365 I have for CCW in my $15 belly band has the thumb safety option. If the Glock 43 was ever offered with a thumb safety, then I would consider working that into my CCW rotation as well. For the time being, the Glocks I do have are either nightstand guns or desk guns.
@chrisbrown9280 Жыл бұрын
Unholstering? Do you mean drawing? Adding a manual safety should not take the place of holstering and drawing safely. Just don't put your bugger hook on the bang switch, look your firearm into the holster, don't flag yourself or anyone else, etc...

I considered belly bands for potential CCW, but they're not practical when you need to keep your shirt (which is part of concealment for belly bands) tucked in all the time. I've since then discovered pocket pistols and shoulder holsters. Pocket, great for summer; Shoulder, great for winter. Vertical shoulder holsters conceal even better than the typical Horizontal ones do.

So this is funny this popped up. I just bought a belly bad… a super cheap one just to see if I liked the way they carry. The trigger thing was totally an issue and I saw that right away. Mine does not allow for the gun to slide through because the whole on the bottom is so tight you would be lucky to get a revolver barrel through it. My gun didn’t even fit in the holster, I shoved my wife’s 38 in just to see what a belly band feels like. I was walking around the house with it and the gun literally fell out. Then I took a leather holster and tucked it behind the belly bad. That felt ok but not secure still.

So far I am not a fan of any belly band holster. My latest one is the Crossbreed 2.0 and it is not worth having. Only good point is it has formed kydex for the actual holster part, but just barely. No retention mechanism in the kydex and no retention straps. The kydex is not mechanically secured to the belly band, just held in place by velcro. I bought the holster to wear when wearing sweet pants of shorts or just working out. Lack of any retention does not instill confidence that the gun will stay in place while running and unfortunately the smooth nature of the neoprene band itself guarantees that neither my pants nor shorts will stay in place when walking, let alone running.

I had sent her for professional private training, and her instructor actually recommended a Belly Band. Unless the instructor was recommending your wife use a kydex trigger guard or holster insert with the bellyband I wouldn't consider that advice "good advice". As detailed in this video, bellybands are not safe to use for concealed carry without a holster or hard trigger guard insert. Not only are they unsafe, but they lead to really disappointing concealment. I'd encourage her to look into the enigma (mentioned at the end of this video), but also know that the set up and customization process for the enigma can be a steep learning curve, especially for a new concealed carrier.

If I may... there might be some angles you haven't look at this from... stick with me for a second: If your pistol has a GRIP SAFETY (I know, everyone hates them) like the S&W Shield 9 EZ or the Equalizer and the Springfield Armory XD series, it solves some belly-band safety issues. When holstering, put your thumb on the back of the slide and the grip safety is not defeated... safely holster it, it can't go off. When the pistol is being carried in the belly-band, if something did foul the trigger, the grip safety is not defeated... it can't go off. There are always options for a manual thumb safety on many pistols (I wouldn't recommend that, but it's an option). There are also DA/SA pistols that are safer to use with that thumb-on-hammer trick and having that long double action 1st trigger pull. This one I hate to suggest, and I wouldn't do it, but you could always carry with an empty chamber. My wife carries her EZ in a couple of different belly-bands and I have no issue with that. I will carry my CZ P-01 in a belly band occasionally without concern. I would not, however, use a belly band for the average striker-fired pistol for the reasons you state... and for the same reasons you don't just stick a Glock in your waistband to take out the trash.

I wouldn’t consider a gun that is seated in a proper holster as a “pointed” gun. What are your thoughts on something like the Clip & Carry Strap Tac, which is more of a belly band holster reciever than a Belly Band Holster itself? It's pretty much a PHLSter Enigma as a Belly Band....

You have valid points, that being said the Glock should be removed from the equation since it has the highest amount of accidental discharges predominantly while in police use, it really doesn't matter belly band or not, the best way is DA/SA that will eliminate that type of discharge, or carry a 1911 cocked & locked which is still much safer than a Glock.

Strange, never heard this about glocks. It seems you have to be very deliberate in squeezing the trigger.

What might your opinion be on the Alien Gear Low-Pro Belly Band?
@tessahbooth3 жыл бұрын
It's technically a safer option, but introduces an unnatural draw due to it's cant, and doesn't have any concealment features. That being said, I ordered one last month, and plan to make a video review when it comes in :)
@kurohyou693 жыл бұрын
@@tessahbooth I agree with your points above. But, oddly, I found it to be more concealable and comfortable than anything else I own. For me, it has become my go-to! I am looking forward to your review and take on it!

When I use one of my belly bands (I've collected three over the years) I only use it as a belt. I either slide a IWB or paddle holster under the belly band (I prefer Kydex) and go about my day in shorts and tee shirt. Problems solved!

100% right bout no trigger guard, its n ez fix the VNSH has yet to add after a yr of complaints....also these all catch the front sight slowing the draw.

She's "not paid by PHLster", but when you go to their website she is in their "Enigma Express vs Standard Enigma - Which is Better?" video.

You should update with a disclaimer on that same section of video, in my opinion. I'm in the market for a way to carry while I cycle/workout. While doing some research I came across your video. You did open my eyes to an issues I hadn't thought of. I was considering one of the popular bellyband style holsters, but now I'm leaning toward the PHLster.@@tessahbooth

@@mdm_1776 An update may be in order! Although, I do disclaim my affiliation with PHLster in current uploads (like my most recent one). At the time of making this particular video I was just a PHLster customer, so the disclaimer that is relevant to this particular video remains true :) If you're considering the Enigma then I'd suggest watching this video that explain why you may NOT want to purchase one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppKof4aQnZd_mrcsi=46Tbegb4qZjqt1hr It's not clickbait, but rather gets into the specific reasons and use cases you may not want to use the Enigma for.

What would you suggest to use when carrying during jogging or biking?
@tessahbooth3 жыл бұрын
I use the enigma, and if you can use that then I would definitely consider it a great option. If the enigma isn't something you're interested in then you could purchase a kydex insert made to your specific firearm and secure it inside of the bellyband. I have a video coming out in a few weeks about my experience looking for, trying and selecting a holster for running. I tried a bellyband, and clipping a holster to my shorts and neither of those worked. Thus far the enigma has solved all of the previous issues I was having with the other two set ups.

@@tessahbooth I've just discovered the enigma from one of your other videos, and it seems wonderful! I want to try it, but it's sold out on the website. :( I signed up for the waitlist. Is there anywhere else that sells it that you know of? Thank you.
@tessahbooth3 жыл бұрын
@@sarahsavage980 PHLster are the only ones selling it currently :) It comes back in stock momentarily each day to service the waiting list, so just keep a close eye and be sure to check your spam folder. Keep in mind that the waitlist notifies people in batches based off of where they are in the waitlist cue, so it may take a while before you get a notification

@Sarah Savage I was on the waitlist as well, but spotted that it was available by checking the website regularly and never actually received an email from them. Check their website regularly, and you will find it available at some point! Mine came in last week and I just set it up. I was able to conceal with biker shorts today!

I don’t keep one in the chamber so I’m good to go. Belly bands are the best and most comfortable, not sure what bands you’re using but I can’t get to the trigger with my Comfortac

Buy a gun with a safety and you'll never have to worry about accidentally firing it when removing from the holster.

I get the problems w/ the belly band, but most of them can be overcome to an acceptable degree. I personally would rather use the Enigma system, but neither Phlster nor any other holster mfr offers a holster for either of my Sig P365 FCU pistol build outs. I have designed two pistols with lights/lasers, red dot optics, and threaded barrels. These systems are best suited to giving me the best custom defensive shooting platforms on the market for the money. However, because of the uniqueness of the setups, literally no one has appendix carry holsters that fit them which work with the Enigma system. In addition, no one is willing to make them to specs. Ergo, my only options are of the belly band type... Happy to hear of a solution that would let me use the Enigma system, but save that, I am stuck in belly band land...

No you clearly need to buy a holster that costs as much as your gun... Except the plastic holsters have to be specially molded for each specific gun and yours isn't one of the popular guns at the moment. I guess you are just going to have to die. 🥴
