On my ninth day in Armenia, during my overnight stay at Yeganyans Bed & Breakfast in Ashtarak, I took some time to try to learn some of the Armenian language from my friend and guide Lusine! Join me on my latest Armenian adventure: learning the Armenian language, in particular, words and phrases!
Lusine: / guin_dalera
Armenia Travel: / armeniatravelofficial
After our amazing feast at Yeganyans Guest House & Wine Yard, we sat back down at our table so Lusine could teach me some Armenian words and phrases. I was nearing the end of my time in Armenia, but I had fallen in love with the country in the time I had been there. The people are so kind and hospitable, the food is amazing, and the historical sites are breathtaking.
The Armenian language is one of the oldest on Earth and dates back to Babylonian times. It’s virtually the same now as it was back then, and can all be read by present-day speakers of the language. It’s an independent branch of the Indo-European language family, so occasionally you will come across words that are similar to their counterparts in Latin-based languages. Here are all of the words and phrases Lusine taught me to say, along with their Armenian translations:
-Bye: Ցտեսություն
-How are you?: Ինչպե՞ս ես
-Nice to meet you: Ուրախ եմ տեսնվել
-Where are you from?: Որտեղից ես
-What do you do for a living?: Ինչո՞վ ես զբաղվում
-What is your name?: Անունդ ի՞նչ է
-How old are you?: Քանի տարեկան ես
-Car: Մեքենա
-Airplane: Օդանավ / Ինքնաթիռ
-Motorcycle: Մոտոցիկլետ
-Where is the station?: Որտեղ է կայարանը
-How much does the ticket cost?: Ինչ արժե այս տոմսը
-Family: Ընտանիք
-Mom: Մայրիկ
-Dad: Հայրիկ
-Brother: Եղբայր
-Sister: Քույր
-Nephew: Զարմիկ
-Niece: Զարմուհի
-Water: Ջուր
-House: Տուն
-Dog: Շուն
-Cat: Կատու
-Restaurant: Ճաշարան
-Food: Սնունդ
-Time: Ժամանակ
-Coffee: Սուրճ
-I love you: Ես քեզ սիրում եմ
-Breakfast: Նախաճաշ
-Lunch: Ճաշ
-Dinner: Ընթրիք
-How much does it cost?: Ի՞նչ արժե
-Can I get a discount?: Կարո՞ղ եմ զեղչ ստանալ
-Do you have a bigger size?: Ավելի մեծ չափս ունե՞ք
-Do you have a smaller size?: Ավելի փոքր չափս ունե՞ք

-Welcome to Armenia: Բարի Գալուստ Հայաստան
During our lesson, Lusine also told me that the Basque people in Spain migrated from the Armenian highlands, so some of the roots of their words are very similar to those in Armenia. I also learned that the word for “coffee” is named after the sound you make when you sip it!
Special thanks to my friends at Armenia Travel for their kindness, hospitality, and for arranging my trip. I couldn’t have done it without them!
Also, if you would like to visit Ashtarak, please contact Lusine.
I hope you enjoyed coming with me on my latest adventure, learning Armenian language, including words and phrases! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave a comment below.

@@chrismirwnitis2029 nationality. Race is the color of your skin. It's a created to seperate classes even though classes are also different meaning how much money or wealth you have both of which are used and created to hold people down and keep everyone against his neighbor. Which is against God. Man uses these things to maintain wealth and power, Satan uses them to lie, steal and destroy and hurt God and put a wedge between each of us and God. Nationality is good because God created that so we hold diversity and culture as good things to enhance and bring us together cause us to take interest in one another.

Armenia has a very rich and ancient history and someone replied on my comment that Pakistan is the only country in th4cword that don’t have diplomatic relations with Armenia. I am deeply upset and sad to hear that my country don’t recognise Armenia. It must be due to policies of Russia but I believe that we must have a diplomatic relations with each other so that we could visit and share our histories, food and cultures with each other. Both the countries have a very rich and ancient histories.

It has lot to do with Azerbaijan.Sadly Pakistan fell for Azerbaijan propaganda that conflict with Armenia is about religion "Islam vs Christianity" Its not about religion we have healthy relations with Iran a Muslim Country.I dont want to dwell too much here but needless to say Armenian history for most part is defending invaders and Azerbaijan no different! We want freedom to Artsakh historical Armenian Provence!Where David and Lucine did wonderful tour!Cheers

Thanks Ruben for explanation. Your relations with Iran would never add any positivity as Iran is one of the most hated country due to their religious government ridicule policies and closing of their country to visitors. But I agree, Armenia has nothing to do with it and if Pakistan could recognise Vatican then history of Armenia won’t be ant hurdle. Your religious history is very strong and I really like to read about it. I also believe that if someone from your government contact present government of Pakistan, our PM would certainly consider better relations with Armenia.

@Tehlirian777 Hi, thank you very much for the explanation regarding political and religious angles of the history. I am an avid reader of the history and would certainly be looking for more material in books form in the market to further study this historical conflict. As you must know that there are always two views of any conflict, one of favor and other not in favor and both sides have their own arguments to justify their actions. I also wish if you could recommend me some books and material to further study this issue so that i could understand it fully. I am personally, even though i am a born Muslim but still argue about some very conflicting matters of Islamic religion and history . I simply don't believe unless i am convinced. Thank you, once again, for your reply.

The language has evolved since ancient times, understandably so, due to many loan words and empires coming and going through the Caucasus and Armenian Highlands. It's still pretty close, with the closest version still being heard through prayer and liturgical chants recited in Classical Armenian, usually during church mass. All in all, it truly is a beautiful language, and though it is Indo-European(within its own branch), many linguists connect it to the ancient extinct languages of Anatolia, with its closes modern day relatives being Greek and Albanian.

Pet names specifically in my case. Oh! And even more specific, a good name/word for a bird of prey (owl, hawk, falcon, etc) If u do, can u tag me? I will also be subscribing & notifications 😄 ty!

Lots of pseudoscience going around in the comments. Of course Armenian is not the oldest language, neither is Greek, Latin or Sanskrit. The reason you find similar words among them is because they all derive from a much older language that linguists call Proto-Indo-European (PIE), which was spoken 6000 years ago, most likely near the Black Sea. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proto-Indo-European_language

Correct me if i’m wrong but I once read a paper that concluded that Armenian in its core isnt a indo european language. But over time it has changed and greek grammar was applied and loanwords and such which it makes the language seem like indo european but its core actually isnt. There are words in our language that have no link to any living in the world not even to proto indo european. Also they should put more research into homshetsi dialect. Its an isolated armenian dialect. I as an Armenian can barely understand it. Go and look up hamshen music.

The oldest Indo-European language is Lithuanian (or the older varieties anyway). Even modern Lithuanian preserves most features of PIE.

Basques are Iberian, not Armenian. What in Greek and Latin is also recorded for the Eastern Kingdom of Georgia - Iberians. This is very simple.

Nice video! In most cases, the reason for unsatisfactory results of learning a foreign language is a loss of interest in the student, or you have stopped at some stage of their training and began to "stomp in one place. Thus, the effort and time you have spent in the absence of new techniques will not allow progress in mastering the language. For example, if you spend your time and effort learning the alphabet for months on end, you will not learn to read, write, speak and understand the spoken and written language. Yuriy Ivantsiv in his book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign language" writes that you should not selectively stop at one thing, and try to gradually move forward, without skipping anything and not jumping, developing all the necessary language skills for you proportionally. Only then will you get effective results. In your strategy for learning any information for you, including a foreign language, you should adhere to the following principle: you made a breakthrough - mastered the new information, then you need to take the time to consolidate the material and bring it to automaticity. The next step - learn new material and master it, and so on. "There are no secrets to success. It's the result of good preparation, hard work, and learning from your mistakes." Colin Powell. Many thanks to the author of the channel for the tremendous work in creating the instructional video. Thanks to such helpful videos, we have rapid progress in language learning.

Dear friends, On July 12, 2020, the Armenian forces launched an attack against Azerbaijan in violation of the existing international laws. The attack took place in the village of Tovuz with an effort to capture the strategically positioned lands. Although the attack was repelled in first 24 hours, four Azerbaijani soldiers lost their lives in the line of duty. On July 13, 2020, in response to the attack, the Azerbaijani forces initiated a series of retaliatory attacks, which led to the destruction of the Armenian military equipment. On July 14, 2020, Armenia launched more strikes against Azerbaijan, killing seven servicemen, including an Army General and Colonel. The Armenian strike also killed a 76-year-old civilian Aziz Azizov, a resident of Aghdam village. Unfortunately, this incident is not an unprecedented one. Since 1990s, Armenia has consistently resorted to brutality and violence which led hundreds of innocent civilians lose their lives. Armenian troops keep ignoring the ceasefire agreement and continue to put the lives of civil people in danger, while Azerbaijan is, as always, ready to do anything to protect its people and territories. Lastly, Azerbaijan would never engage in a fight outside of a conflict region (as you can see in the map), since that could lead to an involvement of The Collective Security Treaty Organization in that conflict. #Karabakh #Azerbaijan #Armenia RAW Paste Data
