this is not a "gay" movie. it is a "romance" movie. two people, who just happen to have the same plumbing, begin by liking one another, then allow that friendship to develop into shared love, with respect. it happens
@tuuliamoors41346 жыл бұрын
Yes, and the director and actors thankfully don't refer to it as "a gay movie" but some media etc. apparently find the concept of people simply falling in love without categorizing it too difficult.

No matter how you want to dress it up, it is a gay relationship. See you want to whitewash it and make it something that straight people can digest but at the end of the day...two men are in love and having sex with each other and that my dear where I come from is not what straight people do. #SORRY
@thomasthompson63786 жыл бұрын
Jon Dishmon Music and STUFF!! The current thinking among most psychologists is that the designations "straight" and "gay" are too flatfooted to have much meaning -- i.e., that most guys have some sort of attraction to other guys even if they're fundamentally "straight." And yes, most gay guys have some sort of attraction to women even if they're fundamentally gay. I believe this makes a richer world for all of us, as well as doubling the possibility of getting a date on a Saturday night.

What people don't realize is that this is just a beautiful relationship between two PEOPLE. If we didn't have boundaries or borders made up by society, the physical part would come more often, if people were able to do what they felt. There was an honesty to their friendship in the film, and elsewhere, you can't deny. It says a lot about the humanity of the actors.

What I love about this movie is that it doesn’t revolve around titles. Now a days people are so focused on putting a label on everything whether it be about sexuality or whatever else. I love that they weren’t forced to come out or to put a label and anything they were doing. This movie isn’t a gay love story it’s just simply a love story, it’s a movie about two people falling in love, plain and simple and that’s what makes it beautiful. If we lived in a perfect world without labels, without people worrying whether a man is with a man or a woman is with a woman this is what it would be like, just people loving people.

Watching CMBYN and his more current work, I’m struck by a sense of sophistication in his acting. It’s something I rarely see - something especially convincing; almost Daniel Day Lewis-esque. Not necessarily in terms of technique, but certainly in terms of impact. He seems naturally openly emotionally raw, which is something most people cannot conjure, and it works perfectly on screen. Add to that his ability to profess his thoughts in the most beautifully eloquent manner, alongside a hint of relatability and you’ve got a somewhat unique thespian.

I've watched this movie at least 5 times. Thinking my heart couldn't feel this again, it took my heart back to feelings of innocence and unbroken purity again. I've experienced something similar to this when I was 19...had my untouched heart, newly hurting, before I even knew to never let it go. I will always cherish that experience and consider myself the luckiest man in the world to know of such love. This movie was so beautifully...so thoughtfully...so artfully crafted, that it will take your heart on a journey that you could never be prepared for, melding your soul between each characters' experiences, leaving you yearning to be lucky enough to experience such a brush of magic in your life. I am honestly thrilled this movie exists. If you would like to experience a HINT of how it would feel to dip your toes into heaven's dimension, then watch this movie. You will be left feeling a new emotion you never knew you had.
@user-jq2wg6vk4p3 жыл бұрын
I loved this movie, but I was annoyed that they chose two heterosexual leads. I may not know much as a naive 18 year old, but I thought this movie unintentionally exposed a lot of problems within homosexual relationships. They were always checking over their shoulders, and pretending to be something they weren’t. When we later find out that everyone around them supported their relationship, if kind of makes it seem like they were being paranoid. It just showed how complicated something like that can be. And hey, I get that the movie took place in 1991, but it just hurt to see them always sneaking, especially when the only enemies in the movie were time and distance. With that being said, I do want to rewatch this movie. I don’t really know why though. I think the only reason I’ll rewatch it again is because it’s the only movie that portrays gay people in such an accurate way, and because it helps me hate myself less. This movie makes me think a lot about society, and what society brands “OK” or not. Some people may say that their love is just a abstract projection of lust and loneliness, but I think it’s the purest love there can be. When you don’t know someone’s past it just leaves their present self for you to experience.

*Let me just start off by saying that I respect Armie Hammer and Timothee Chalamet and their relationship wether it's a romantic one or a platonic one. But, I do ship them and believe that they developed a romantic relationship of camera. I do want to point out that their are some things I noticed in this video that are a bit more that platonic... (this is for my other shippers out there.) if you look at 0:06 - 0:10 you will notice that while Luca is talking about family, and how this film should bring people together. Armie is playing/touching his ring finger... Could this mean something? Does he love Timmy? Does he want a divorce? (well they are getting a divorce now) is it related? If you look throughout the video, all the chairs are spaced out but Timmy's and Armies chair are so close to each other, and they constantly leaning in on one another... at 2:43 when timmy starts to laugh Armie looked at him with 'lovers' eyes, and he looks at his hands. something similar happens at 3:17 when Timmy just stares at Armie's hands (maybe his crotch?) and Timmy is just slightly smiling as if he's remembering there time on set.*

Hello. I completely agree with you. When Oliver says to Elio "can I kiss you". When Oliver tickles Elio in the hotel. I don't believe that was in the script, and Timothee in the audio commentary says "there was no way to fake that". He really IS ticklish. Also remember that they spent time in each other's hotel rooms rehearsing, 'acting' out the script long before filming started. But from the time Armie touches Timothee in the garden, on his shoulder. I've thought 'something' was triggered between them. We'll never know what happened in the privacy of their hotel rooms. And it's right that we shouldn't. It's enough to say that no matter how many times I run the dvd. The internal emotions take over, and I still can't prevent the tears flowing at the fireplace scene. They and us have moved on, but the film is timeless and ageless. A film of great beauty in so many ways. Jonathan
