I believe I've seen a video of Arne Koets doing similar stuff on horseback because he says you don't have a lot of time as you pass so you must be efficient in your movement. The arming sword and sword and buckler/shield videos are my favorites from you especially the introduction videos describing the development of arming swords and typologies. I also love the type XIV you use for these videos too; I think I've seen a sharp version of that sword on Sulowski's website and it's a beautiful sword.

I am very glad that I discovered your channel!! Very few training material refers only to arming sword without a buckler. Personally I have exercise some technics from Johannes Lecküchner (I think the same with Liechtenauer ) and his kriegmesser. When the next video will come?

It bears mentioning you don't always need an imbrocata, ite depends on where your opponent leaves his crossguard. If it is high, like in the video, then you need an imbrocata, if he has it low, you can just stab him right there, i.e. execute a stoccata, if you want to get technical. The latter is what I.33 shows in its halfshield against first ward exchange.

MartinGreywolf many things can be done for many different occasions. In the video I mention a precise case of course.

For the first one, me and my friend were testing out if that parry is actually effective cuz he had doubts, and he was correct. He can easily just duck down to dodge my riposite, and cut my leg/stab me.
@FedericoMalagutti
@FedericoMalagutti Жыл бұрын
A counter to a technique doesn’t make the technique not effective, otherwise, no action would be worth training. If your friend is good at that counter while sparring at high speed, good for him, he should do it. That’s it.

I noticed that you reach for the opponents hand in the second maneuver before committing to the imbrocatta and subsequently your step, is this purposeful to protect your lower body from a counter attack until you can guarantee control of your opponents arm/weapon?

Nearly all infantries and civilians used armingswords with types of shields?Am I right?
@FedericoMalagutti
@FedericoMalagutti 4 жыл бұрын
Well it depends, but generally speaking I would say no. The sword is a side-weapon which can be used by itself or not. So it depends if the person carrying the sword wanted to carry only its weight around or also other 1 - 1.2 Kilos of buckler. War of course is a different thing. You can have a clash in which everyone needs to carry the weight of its weapons for Kms, or a large scale fight in which you can carry whatever equipment your army needs on the spot using animals and carts. It also depended from different city/region laws. Wealth, social status etc. So, yeah, it's a bit more complex than this. Of course, talking about iconography, we have images whowing both people with only swords or swords and shields.

But I have never read any manuscript of using with only single a one-handed armingsword.The manuscript of using armingsword are all used with buckler.
@FedericoMalagutti
@FedericoMalagutti 4 жыл бұрын
@@yizheliu304 well, that's because we have just a few manuscript representing arming sword and they are not capable of representig the historical reality of the time at all. The Iconography I'm talking about anyway can be found outside of the manuals. Religious Iconography, Historical facts representations, marginalia etc. etc. Anyway it's just plain logic, as the sidesword was taught as a single weapon too, as it may happen to not have another weapon at any given time, the arming sword (which is the same thing, only older) is the same. The messer is the same, and is mainly taught alone, etc. etc.
