I'll leave my 2 cents here: I stumbled upon this video and it kinda hit me like a truck. I shoot for 3 years now and fully recognized myself in the stages. I think i'm somewhere overcame the depression stage, where i was so frustrated that i even stopped shooting for over a month. After that I picked up my bow again and just started working on my weakpoints - all completely isolated from any influence and opinions. Only focusing on my body and mind. A few months later, once i shot more often in company, I noticed how I somewhat became the best archer at our range (at least regarding the points/results i shot). I even went out to become the state champion on last weekend, which i didn't really expect. I just shot only focused on my own shooting, without caring about the results of others. I will follow this path and hopefully some day achieve the last stage. Thank you for the explanation, Armin. :-)

I am thankful I came across this. I had never thought about it nor did I knew about the 5 elements you relate the phases to, but it's SO right for other disciplines too. After watching this I was smiling in front of the screen realising I am just now getting into phase 3 (or maybe I just think I am) in my music journey with the piano. And that's 21 years into it... Thank you for this.

Very very well explained. One the best archery videos on KZbin! Your videos have been the most helpful for me in learning this discipline. Thank you Armin. I think Malta needs to be my next travel destination for sightseeing and archery lessons :-)

This is a difficult topic to explain, but you do so wonderfully. After watching the first time (a few days ago), I believe I passed through fire. My shooting form found itself and my accuracy improved overnight. Now, I believe my practice will be more useful. Watching you shoot while speaking about this subject is perfect because your movements demonstrate that you know what you're talking about. Thank you

I think I’m in 2c, morbid ambition, but perhaps it’s not a bad thing: Firstly, it’s a sign of growth and “cyclic” maturity. Secondly, I recently purchased a bow on your recommendation. Please Shaykh Armin, don’t take advantage of my morbid ambition; I can’t afford being in this phase for too long while also watching your reviews 😝

I really like the conection to the arts martial you preserve in your teaching - its eminently sensible and preserves the roots of the bow as weapon and tool.

This is very remenscent of chakras to me. The plexus, stomach, or yellow chakra is connected to self esteem. I was waiting to see if this will line up, and low and behold once you got to earth the first thing you mention is self esteem. Awesome 😁

This video just popped up on my recommendations. Is KZbin somehow psychic now? 😎 I definitely recognise myself in this process, but the depression was worse because I'd done so well in the carelessness part, and was a Master Bowman in clout without trying. But when I started to try and maintain it, everything went wrong. For me, each phase has taken about a year. Last year, I didn't buy any new bows at all. I had what I needed. I'm now in year 5 and all my future archery will simply be about my physical capability and enjoyment (after my spine is healed). Thank you for this video Armin. 👌

Water is when your friend says, "Bet you can't hit that deer target!" Now, that deer target is at 100 meters and you are shooting a 45# recurve instinctive. You take the shot and watch that arrow fly a beautiful arc and land inside the kill zone on the target. You know you made the shot. You have no idea how but you'll take it. Your friend says to try it again but you are smart enough to say, "No, I think I'll keep my arrows." because you know the next one isn't going to be within five feet of that target.

I keep coming back to this video. Every time I look at it a little different. It's so good 😁 One question I'm asking myself lately. What is the difference between mindfulness and instinctive archery? On one hand you should shoot with your body, letting your subconscious take over. But doing it mindfully that isn't the case. Any thoughts?
@ArminHirmer
@ArminHirmer 4 жыл бұрын
You can be mindful in a lot of things, even experiencing the NOW.
@gizmonomono
@gizmonomono 4 жыл бұрын
@@ArminHirmer I know this. I've read the power of now 😁 I try to practice it as much as possible. But when I'm mindful of shooting I tend to think about it. This isn't intuitive shooting anymore. This difference I can't wrap my head around. When feeling the bow I inevitably think about it.

Phase 2 - He who compares himself to others is not wise. A target is a porthole ,a porthole is a destiny focus on your own destiny or you will land in some others mess focusing on them . Best to have a humble teachable spirit because when we think we have arrived where we are going life shuffles the deck on us all no matter what field pursued . Consistence is the key to growth and success no mater what hand is delt to us .So what I see in this is the phases are a circle of growth and when one comes full circle they start at the begining phase again only in a more mature or regressed state each time around the choice is up to the individual to grow or regress this separates the accomplished from those who fall by the way side . I have no archery teacher in my town so books and you tube is the only thing I have I must self teach myself and to learn I must be able to put aside my ego and blame on other circumstances if and arrow is up in the neighbors yard it is because my in consistence put it there .I just recently transformed from gap to instinctive shooting but there is still rough edges on my form and I must be able to judge myself with truth or be condemed to lose by making the same mistakes over and over again . And just when I have passed a mark life has delt me a new set of cards heart surgery so I will have to put the bow down for several months and overcome this challenge

Michel Boulet I am not certain I agree with the term “mastering “ which has always been judgmental and pejorative for me. I view it more as a process of self actualization- no control, just becoming. Kia mihi.

It's incredible. I was right what I wrote, that I was in morbid ambition before I started. Now that I've been shooting for about a month I can tell the different phases in other people. Both the ones I started with and the people that had been shooting long before me. Love the video, these kind of things are oddly satisfying to me, thank you :)

Profound and very true. I’m comparing to others to the point where it is affecting my well being. I’m definitely in the morbid ambition stage and I’m desperate to get out. I keep telling myself I need to let go a little bit but then it’s like you said, that depression creeps up and I feel like I’m giving up. I can’t even tell you how much relief watching this video has provided me. Thank you.

I don't believe in your phases. Everyone goes through different stages. And at least the last step is a step I will never achieve because there will always be something you can improve. Phase 1 and 2 seem legit :)
