I wonder why the rounds they were firing at 1:00 to 1:03 were CGI? Surely ammo is cheaper than special FX?

If they did that it means they are not. I imagine blanks on set require a bunch of specialists, trainers, insurances and the like. Plus the guns have to be real guns, if you VFX it all they can be airsoft replicas for all you can tell. Sucks to be honest, when a film uses blanks and real weapon sounds for shootouts I like it like 50% more just for that
