Armored Core 6 has consumed my life for the past month, both because I let it and because It forced me to - in a good way.
I've previously gone over the reasons why I think this game is really important for both the gaming ecosystem and for fans of the franchise;
I've also delved into what I consider are some of its shortcomings - from the perspective of a long term fan.
Today I want to celebrate everything this game does monumentally right - which is a whole lot - and sing the praises of From Software's biggest comeback ever.
This game is amazing, the franchise is gearing up to be in a really good spot and it is really exciting!
This is me being really annoying about something I love!
Enjoy the video.

@@That_Skeleton1 Same here, Titanfall 2 was just incredible, but no other mecha game could fill up the void in it's place. Be it Robocraft Hawken or Daemon X Machina. But recently I tried out some souls games like DS3 and it hooked me. The moment I've learned abaut armored core universe and what I missed I was shocked. +The fact that I knew this game is going to be made by the same developers who brought me DS3 and Elden Ring gave me a lot of confidence in that purchase. AC6 is just fkin amaizing! I'm going to try and simulate the old PS3 games from the AC ip, whenever I get new controler. (I know that the games that I listed are very diffrent from eachother, Robocraft is just make a mech battle arena, Hawken was closer to MOBA shooter like overwatch but with mechs, DXM is the only game close to AC, but all of them gave me satisfaction for experimenting with mech's builds and unique tactics.) I really hope I won't have to wait a decade for another AC game like the old Ravens did.

I heard reviewers talking about how the game was too grey and there wasn't enough color. And its true that most areas are pretty monochrome, with a blue/green/orange tint on a grey canvas. But there is bright color scattered around. And what people dont seem to notice is that there are only 3 areas where you will see bright colors used: weapons/projectiles (for gameplay reasons), important character ACs, and the natural world (including coral). The visual design perfectly depicts a world with vibrant beauty and incredible characters slowly being smothered by corporate greyness. I was incredibly impressed. It's easy to make a game grey and dystopian, and not too hard to make something vibrant and colorful. Using color in a meaningful way is much more difficult, and FROM absolutely nailed it.

One of my favorite little details is the blast radius of the weapons (particularly how they're portrayed visually). The Gou Chen grenade rifle has statistically bigger radius than the Iridium, but the Dizzy is bigger than both. And you can *see* that. When you kill a group of MTs with a Dizzy or an Earshot, you know those poor bastards baked alive in a massive fireball. I'd feel a little bad for em if it wasn't so... *mesmerizing.*

LCs are my favorite enemy in the game because of the ragdoll effects they have off explosives. To see one try to get off the ground right as a grenade hits and watch them sail through the air in slow motion till they collapse in a pile of parts on the ground is one of the most fun things in the game.

It really does feel great, and now with the new patch that changes Grenades to air burst detonate when they hit their ideal range, you're going to get a lot more usage out of them I think now. It won't be something you feel like you can only use on a grounded enemy. I've been running the Majestic bazooka recently, and it's absolutely been living up to the name with the projectile speed buff all the bazookas have gotten.

I've never played a mech game in my life until my friend who has been a fan of Armored Core since the 2000s has badgered me into getting it. I met him through Monster Hunter, and we played Soulsborne games together, and I decided to give AC6 a shot because he's been excited to share his love of AC to newcomers. Given his sheer passion, I finally decided to pick it up, and stuck with it despite how brutal the curve was for me with my playstyle, and build choices leaning towards melee, and the occasional pot shot with rifles and missiles. It was incredibly gratifying learning the game as I didn't sink, but swam, and I'm so happy that I gave AC6 a chance. I'm onboard, and incredibly excited for a new entry or DLC.

@starhammer5247
@starhammer5247 8 ай бұрын
@@SethonanGamingThat couldn't be any more wrong. There are plenty of games in AC that just outright have good endings. Hell, ACVD ended with you taking down the Foundation and working towards tearing down everything they did. The ending of ACII is you stopping a moon from crashing into Mars and saving the planet. The end of ACIII is you liberating Humanity from the control of an AI and forcing it to let humanity back onto the surface, something the AI itself wanted but couldn't do. Armored Core is the From Software franchise with the most happy endings out of any of their other series. The idea that ACVI is filled with bad endings is such a horrendous take that I'm genuinely surprised. The entire POINT of the last ending is that you DON'T KNOW what's going to happen next because NO ONE knows what's going to happen, no one wants Coral Release because they're afraid of what they don't understand. No one knows what will happen with Coral Release, so they're content to keep the status quo. The entire point of AC is that you, the Raven, will always change the world, and will always dictate the Fate of Humanity as a whole. The point of Armored Core VI is choosing and crossing the Rubicon, something Julius Caesar did centuries ago. Whether it's good or bad is something we DON'T KNOW and shouldn't assume we know. People fear Coral Release, but they never explain why. Nagai may cite mutations as something to be concerned about, but Ayre is a mutation, and in Fires of Raven she still remains hopeful for Humanity to work together with Coral. Fires of Raven and Liberator of Rubicon change nothing, things remain the same and Humanity suffers for it. Alea Iacta Est is the one ending where things change, even if we don't know what that change is, which is the fucking point. Stop saying everything is a bad ending when you don't even know what's going to happen.

This game totally deserves game of the year. Out of all the games released this year, it did the most good for the company that made it, and the genre that it belongs to. But I can almost guarantee that it won't win. Because games like Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur's Gate 3 are simply more widely popular by design. Even though AC6 finally brought the series into the mainstream, its still nowhere near as widespread as fantasy RPGs always are. And that's fine, since everything that makes it less popular is also what makes it so good. From doesn't compromise their vision, just so they can boost their player counts or profit margins. That's why we all love them.

Yeah. Still sometimes feels like a sort of robbery, or would to anyone who takes the endlessly stretched bad joke of the game awards seriously. Tears of the Kingdom doesn't really have a chance against BG3 tho. Came out way too early in the year for the hype (most important factor) to stay fresh and also doesn't have nearly as many horny sexy scenes for incel gamer bros.

@starhammer5247 8 ай бұрын
@@Aus200How is it boring exactly? I'm genuinely curious as this game is not one you could consider boring in the first place. It can only ever get stressful or frustrating as you get your ass handed to you because you used a terrible build for the mission. For you to feel bored you would have to have gone for a meta build that trivialises the game over a build that's actually fun to play the game in. Even then, there's a lot of shit to keep track of from AP to ammo and even enemy repair kits. The only way this game could be boring would be if you went out of your way to make it boring.

@@starhammer5247 I’m disappointed with this game. The “missions” are easily ran through in 3-4 minutes. Then, it’s followed by an unbalanced boss fight. Rinse and repeat.
@starhammer5247
@starhammer5247 8 ай бұрын
@@Aus200 You are aware that none of those bosses are unfair, right? For example, switching to quad legs makes the Cleaner, the Juggernaut and the C-Spider piss easy. Balteus and Balteus Snail is a fucking breeze if you bring pulse guns that absolutely shred his shields. Ibis is a matter of timing, just wait for an opportunity or get a decent generator and boosters so you can keep pace with them, I killed them first try. Walter is a glorified AC fight, just figure out how to get good, you've definitely fought 15 ACs at this point. ALLMIND is difficult but you only need to focus them down and you can say goodbye to their lackeys, you'll actually be punished if you don't focus on ALLMIND. The EKDROMOI are a matter of prioritisation, just focus down the melee one. The HC LC fight just requires you to focus on the HC and let Rusty distract the LC. The CATAPHRACT just requires you to bring heavy weapons or high stagger gear and a Pile Bunker plus speed. SOL/Ayre is simply a matter of speed and dodging. The transformer thing in depths 2 is a skill check, flight and pulse guns are very effective against him, though. None of them are unbalanced, you just brought the wrong build to the wrong fights, AC encourages you to change up your build and experiment, why else can you buy and sell parts at cost? As for the five minute missions, you've clearly never played an AC game before and you've clearly never made it to the tougher missions. Hell, I doubt you even found the hidden parts in all the missions.

I've never once played an AC game before Fires of Rubicon, but coming hot off the tail from Elden Ring, I trusted FromSoft enough to try a game that's been on life support for the better half of a decade and a half. Oh man, was this *the most fun* I've had in a single player game since Halo. I've always wanted an amazingly fun mech game. Tried Mech Warrior, Hawken, and anything else I could get my machine loving grubby hands on, but nothing quite stacked up to getting Armored Core's 100% achievement. Even its multiplayer stands far above the rest(Minus one specific mech game... AC6 can only stand shoulder to shoulder with you, my beloved Titanfall) I patiently await for AC6's inevitable tradition of Overhauling DLC, and if there's ever a chance at an AC7, consider a new die-hard raven "On Standby"

I am someone who started From games with the Souls games, had a mild but not driven to pursue interest in mecha, and never played any AC. But I gave AC6 a shot because the dev earned my trust in their ability to produce quality and the enthusiasm of AC's fans, and after most of a month of playing it I'm now going through the series starting with the very first one. It can not only create new fans for it's franchise but send them back several console generations to play more of it, that's a powerful success there.

Thank you! Yeah I was not expecting for them to come out swinging like this. And for sure, I wanted to recreate the feeling of a classic AC opening cinematic, unfortunately had to do it with ACfA music because 6 doesn't have that one banger to carry the same energy - glad it turned out cool

About the charge mechanic shutout to my dear VP-66LS shotgun that doubles as a laser rifle with longer range when charged, all this in just one weapon and has been fun especially in PvP to keep people guessing what I was gonna use (poorly but hey the baits worked sometimes). This mechanic was probably one of the best addition in AC6 and added a lot of versatility to weapons while making their actions less linear by adding 2 sometimes even 3 more functions to a singular weapon. The mission bit I mainly agree, my only caveat is that there's a few too many multi staged DMC wall kill all enemies to progress type of missions which isn't exactly uncommon to the series but they would usually feel looser and not restrict you to a particular location unless it made sense within context. Still one of the best package of missions alongside Silent line and V for me and wasn't expecting them to bring back unpopular missions types like stealth missions. With you on the narrative also, one thing that really worked in 6's favour is that a lot of characters stay relevant and have personal stakes in the big conflict rather than just disappearing as fast as they appeared. In most of the other games characters could die in the mission they were introduced in and while some would leave a mark in that one appearance 6's route helped us connect with the memorable cast more (similar reason that in oldgen people remember the Last Raven crew the most), they employing a lot of repetition that doesn't get grating like having a lot of different nicknames for 621, Michigan constantly fixing the ego of his troops every time they get too cocky and talk shit about someone else or Snail always being high and mighty that it is a "rare privilege" to be part of the mission he's commandeering made it hard not to love them (or hate them). Dunno if I cared a lot about the more high sci-fi concepts like the coral, I wish we got a wider lenses into the factions especially PCA and Allmind could have been integrated better into the story even if the way their mask fell off through multiple playthroughs was really cool. Overall I would still say it has the best narrative in the series. Good vid once again and I think you covered AC6 in a generalized sense really well with this trilogy of videos.

@@SilverGlint oh yeah same for me. Gen 3's world and setting is still my favourite and I'm a bit bias towards a more scrappy rundown future setting over high sci-fi for AC specifically but in terms of moment to moment and character drama 6 is above the other entries.

While AC6 is pretty awesome, it does feel like that From is just testing the water with this entry. Reused maps in missions, barebone PvP, etc. You can tell that From didn't wanna pour all of their time and resource into AC6, cause they were unsure of how well AC6 will be received. Hopefully From is feeling confident enough to add more AC6 contents soon.

I think it is less confidence and more time and budget. Unlike other games AC6 is clearly built from the ground up however it is like other armored core games the game should end up with impressive expansions. The leap from AC1z project phantasma and to Master of Arena was insane and this is not count AC2 and 3 games that were built on the gameplay mechanics of 1 I have no doubt this is just the first taste of the new era of AC

Even though I'm not as big of a fan of Souls as I have been of Armored Core games both past and present, I applaud FromSoftware for their focus and dedication. They aren't trying to cast a wide net or come up with something that's going to win awards. They aren't abandoning their vision for reviews, or pouring their budget into figuring out ways to nickel and dime their fans. I can't even find the words to describe how much I appreciate the game's direction. The way the game rewards the player for their input. Exploring and finding data logs results in filling answers to questions left by the story. Tinkering with builds often results in finding even more fun ways to approach combat. Falling in love with the characters makes it so much more meaningful and emotional when you have to make your choices. Taking the time to learn how to create and stick decals all over your AC makes it so much more uniquely yours.

I've done my 3 playthroughs, gotten all the parts and logs, and I'm on my journey of S ranking all the missions starting with the light work (1/3 the way there), and I've thoroughly enjoyed the game as a veteran AC player. I started at AC2 and played almost every title since. The number of parts at first seemed smaller than average, but it actually falls almost directly in the average number having looked back at a lot of titles. The same goes for mission count, falling in at around 60 missions. While that's not the 100 missions of AC2AA, all of them really are pretty quality in make. My hope though is that we get an Another Age or Last Raven of this title, that just offers a ton more parts and missions. I'd like more leg options per leg category, as that translates to just many more platforms to build interesting cores from, and I'd like more versatile handheld weapons. Just having a more generous spread of statistic variables on arm carried weapons, even if it just means having 5 different linear rifles with more or less the same model, just makes it easier to fit pieces into your niche build. Finally I think I'd like to see arm weapons return, and left/right melee weapon interchangeability. That last part is probably a big ask for the balance of the game, as the combat is really weighted in close range. Combos like Lance into Pilebunker can already be really strong, so not having to give up a shoulder slot to do that to run instead Truenos or homing missiles might become a nightmare if such a change sees light.

I have always been interested in Armored Core. A lot. I've always been interested in mechs overall, to be honest, but whenever I turned to games, I didn't really see anything that suited my likes. I have always wanted a fast game, but I also wanted it to be tacticool at heart, and things rarely coexisted. The fact that these stories tend to have dark, almost tragic turns is also a big plus. The only reason I couldn't brig myself to try 4 or 4A out was because of my hands; they exist, but are not really functional. So I've been an AC fan before Dark Souls saved my sorry ass with the lock-on feature, but even still, I only enjoyed very select games from that style. I am so glad they actually decided to bring AC back. I had almost forgot about it. The only gripe I have with this game is that, even if it may sound "quite interesting"- They should have taken more inspiration from Sekiro. I feel like the game depends too much on the ACS mechanics and the ACS bar builds up too fast. Same importance as with Sekiro, but it does demand perfection for a while, and fights generally last longer. Apart from that? Fuck, I love this game. Also, can we admit lightweight RJs are just actually amazing now? It makes it hell to hit your AC with them on because of predictive aim.

You know, you mention the visual design and the beautiful contrast of giant explosions in the night sky, but that just makes me realize something broader. AC6 takes Generation 4's washed out landscape design, and renders it even better than For Answer did, giving us a world that somehow manages to get across that post-apocalyptic bleakness without undermining any of the gorgeous colour palette or broader visual design.
