@@ultraseis Dwarf fortress has been available for free for 20 years (I believe its first version came out in 2002) and has been the inspiration for a ton of base building/management games like rimworld, kenshi, banished etc. It's also been updated this whole time and has an absolutely ridiculous amount of depth, the number of teeth each dwarf has is tracked, I've seen a dwarf lady toss her baby into a fountain and then go on a berserk rage when it died, leading to a riot that caused the genocide of another race. It's one of those games that has been around forever but is finally gotten actual graphics and UI making it more consumable for your average gamer.

@@ultraseis it's the first and most detailed colony simulator that exists currently. It generates a fully 3d world with hundreds of years of history and politics, before dropping you into the trenches. It has physics simulation for water/thrown objects. There are single player modes where you can just explore the world in its entirety. To use rimworld's tagline, instead of a "colony simulator" is more like a "story generator". There's just so many mechanics, so it's still hard for people to get into but it's significantly easier now thanks to mouse controls

I thought most people liked Fallen Order. The main beef was the stupid poncho collectibles and changing your lightsaber did nothing other than cosmetic changes. If they switch both of those to useful items the next game will be S tier. And if you haven't played Fallen Order, the thing is almost free on steam at the moment. I think $6.

I know Judge got memed a lot for his speech being so long, but honestly it was one of my favorite moments of the night. Armored Core games had the best mech customization and how it changed and affected gameplay of any mech game ever, not to mention, did a great job creating a fantasy of what being a mercenary mech warrior would be like. With modern game design I cannot WAIT for that title. Considering how much of a trend setter dark souls turned out to be. If Armored Core is as amazing as I hope it is. Then the mech combat genre will no longer be a wasteland of barely acknowledged to completely deserted niche titles. It's wild too, It's such a vulnerable property to microtransactions that I'm genuinely shocked it's not filled to the brim with diablo immortal style bullshit.

Thanks for the news , Ralph! Totally agree re: Game Awards. Be great if they gave more focus to the nominees so there's more of an appreciation of the work in each category. A brief reel featuring each , perhaps even pre-show content that speaks to the strengths of each nominee. Without it, there's a distinct feeling that games just make a list and a couple of AAA titles dominating the show - like GOWR and ER did this year.

Returnal on PC needing 32GB could be the fact, that a standard PC does not have a direct access path from SSD to graphics card memory as the PS5 has. So they have to "cache" quite an amount of graphics data in the main memory, as it would not be fast enough to grab it from SSD via the CPU.

Likely true, but I hope they use the direct storage capability for PCs that are capable of using it. I feel like having a SSD capable of direct storage is more likely than having 32 GB RAM. I've never built a computer with that much RAM since having more than 16 GB never actually mattered for PC games in a meaningful way, at least in the past.

XC3 is honestly one of the very few games that has as much emotion as FFXIV for me. There are a things you can complain about, yes, but for me if you get invested in the actual story it's incredible.

I am trying to get into xenoblade chronicles 1, but persona 3 is so much more effortless that I have almost completely switched over to that One of the things XC does badly is intrigue, at-least during the initial hours - the world looks amazing, but it lacks grounding
