Days Gone is a far more deserving game than most of the games press is giving it credit for. It's not perfect by any stretch, but it's worth your time and money if you are looking for gripping narrative experiences.

@Steve I can see your point but you may have had a totally different view on the game if you hadn't stopped because personally I have never played a more intriguing game than ir since the last of us. I had the same opinion on days gone but once I got passed all of the tutorials and the game let's you use the tools etc I loved it . The game is also much more than just hacking and slashing but I can also see why some people dislike the combat.

It runs okay on PC... I'm running a 2070 super with 32 gigs of ram, a 3700x and the game struggles to hit 100fps on my 3440x1440p monitor. I can't get it to lock to my monitors refresh rate unless I put nearly everything to medium at 90% resolution scale. That 10% hit to resolution makes a HUGE difference! The game ends up blurry... but it's the only way I can lock to 100hz at that resolution. I have both my CPU and GPU overclocked as well. What are you running and at what resolution/framerate?

@@Corrupted Do you run games with V-sync or uncapped? My perfect game is 3440x1440p running at 100hz on ultra settings with V-sync. I only have a 2070 super so... that dream is mainly realized on games that are at least a few years old. Titanfall 2 really fits that bill.

Kartik Punna Very. I can’t say much about Anthem, but I own 76 and can confirm Days Gone runs much better. Given, that’s to an extent when the textures look like they’re on a PS1 and you need to restart the game. Then it’s good as new for a few more hours of playing. (I dumped 6-10 hour sessions playing until the end.) There was a pivotal cutscene in Lost Lake where my audio became way out of sync and the textures were absolute garbage, but honestly I knew I should have restated prior to that mission.

Gotta disagree with thoughts on the bike and combat. 1. The realistic physics make you have to think about you drive your bike and how you attempt short cuts. 2. Fuel is exhausted fast when you’re “flooring” the gas the whole time. You gotta ride it like you would a real bike. Throttle when your going up hill, coast down hill, throttle on turns. It gets really fluid when you control it right 3. The lack of ammo had me get creative in battles. Shoot 1 or 2 people, move, melee, move, shoot, roll, shotgun, roll, etc. makes you have to think about where people are going and how you can line them up.

The physics for the bike can be a bit janky at time but overall I thought it was good and liked how fuel worked too, you have to think about how you drive until the last fuel tank upgrade at least. The ammo thing though isn't actually that bad if you ever low there is undoubtedly a cop car nearby to get some from, it does however suck that your ammo limit is quite low in the beginning understandable but still sucks lol.

Sean Downing It really is a refreshing change to use your entire arsenal instead of the best couple weapons in the game. This is one of the few games I actually use throwables in. RDR2 kind of lacks in that regard in the sense that I can now enemies down with a litchfield and be done with it.

The AI has been the biggest letdown. Freakers are dumb, as expected, but so are humans. The bear boss fight was particularly bad. The bear in my game didn't even want to fight and kept walking away. I reloaded the game three times and the AI was still spotty. When I compare that to the experience I had fighting the Legendary Grizzly in RDR2, it doesn't even compare.

I actually liked the gunplay mechanics in this game. You only have a limited amount of ammo, your aiming ability is realistic given the gun you have, enemies realistically move around to avoid getting hit, etc. You have to think about where to position yourself, what enemies to target, when to use your focus, etc. So it's basically a thinking man's game, even when you are in a gun battle.

I have a few complaints with this review: 1- By the end of the skill trees (you even praised how you feel character progress in your review) , shooting gets so much better and ammo is never a problem. Guns get more powerful too. 2- If you start the game today, you'll be on 1.07 which pretty much fixes 85% of the performance bugs, not relevant by the time your review came out. Framedrops are fixed by like 90% (I started playing on release date 1.04) 3- The motorcycle gets upgrades to the gas tank which substantially fixes the "low gas problem" in this review. (Im talking 10x the gas capacity of the initial state of the motorcycle) 4- Freakers are amazing, they're not zombies, think more like "I am Legend" infected, hate the sun, behave differently depending on time of day and weather. Also, you learn what happened to them through missions, lore and collectibles, how they're always changing, the virus even affects animals. 5- I found stealth not reliable at all on the second half of the game For me this is easily an 8.5 if you start playing today on the 1.07 patch. Cheers.

I agree with your review of this review. A good bunch of criticisms was either subjective, overblown or flat out wrong (this game is great with freaks). I think he missed a bunch of important upgrades and from the gameplay, it looked like he wasn't taking his time when shooting. Like he was expecting the crosshair to bounce between heads like he was playing Osu. Currently watching TheRadBrad's playthrough, and I can say with all my heart that this game is not a 5/10. The lowest score I would give this is an 8/10, but that can jump up to a 9/10 once all the performance -stuff has been ironed out and once the horde mode arrives. Excited for the future of this game. Truly an underdog.

Always made me a bit nervous and made me calculate how far I could fast travel, it also made the bike a HUGE priority. I was like: Oh this is fucked. I was in the middle of nowhere, no gas, no nothing. Not even ammo, all I had was my crossbow and boot knife. Night time, no fast travel. Took me ages to get back to iron mikes. You criticized the fuel efficiency of the bike, and while I kind of agree, it should be pointed out that you can upgrade the gas tank throughout the game, meaning it gets way more fuel efficient as you play. I don't think it was fair that you neglected to mention this. Sure, in the beginning its somewhat a pain in the arse, but mid game its far less an issue and late game its a non issue, as the gas tank is so big you can ride for long periods without needing gas. The same applies to the combat. Two of the most common complaints that I hear about the game is that the gas isn't enough and the combat is clunky. Its that way on purpose and becomes less an issue the further you play. As I mentioned, you can upgrade the gas tank to have more fuel efficiency, but likewise the guns & melee weapons are extremely weak initially and you have no skills. As you level up and gain skills you get access to more things that drastically improve the combat (both shooting & melee). And the guns are weak, but as you play you get access to better guns that can be upgraded to improve their effectiveness. These are issues that its not fair to criticize because they are done that way on purpose. It was the intent to improve your characters abilities and the bike and the weapons, so that they become a non issue. When I first started playing I had the same issues (gas usage, clunky combat)...but as I got deeper I began to notice that ALL these issues got better as I got skills and upgraded the bike & weapons. By late game, they were much better than in the beginning. The game layers these things so that you get better as you progress. Also, the game was inconsistent in terms of frame-rate, but the game has since been patched to improve things quite a bit. The very same was true with the Witcher 3, which got patched and now runs way better. Of course this video came out before the patch that finally fixed much of the issues, but I wanted to say that it runs much better now (for anyone who sees this video now).

Days Gone is meant to be a slightly more realistic zombie game. You'll run out of fuel if you hold down the throttle, but conserve it when you dont. Floor it going uphill, but let it go when going downhill. It does save gas in the game.

@Yomom12388 3 жыл бұрын
Just because something is intentional doesn’t mean it gets an automatic pass. If something is clunky and feels like crap, then it’s clunky and it feels like crap AND it was a bad design decision. There are tons of different ways a game can limit your characters effectiveness in combat that don’t feel bad to play. Games have been doing it for decades just fine. So if it was more immersive or something for the combat to initially, fine. Still doesn’t change the fact that it just kind of plain old sucks, purposeful or not.

Yes, the tiny bubble of the internet has a hate boner for rdr2, but outside of these comment sections and reddit, rdr2 is the biggest game this gen. People who never play games, bought that game. They both have the sane user scores only, rdr2 has a lot of 0s from crazy people whereas days gone has a lot of appropriate 6s and 7s, along with the 8s and 9s.

The aiming can be improved by: 1. Upgrading the shooting skills and using the slow motion. 2. Keeping the distance from the enemy while shooting. 3. Learning the attack behavior of the freakers. They have pattern - moving not straight, but a little bit around the cirсle when they not very close. 4. Using controller that can be programmed. So it helps you to tune the sticks right that your aiming will be much smoother. 5. When you start to aim, make sure that the cross will appear on the enemy or near. 6. Try to aim always in the head. With all of this I personally enjoy the shooting, using it all the time and wish this for all of you

I doubt rdr2 would have been a better game if it shaved off 20 hours of story. The slower moments are meant for self reflection and introspection, and the characters always have some internal turmoil that is being explored indirectly through each chapter. I feel like you have missed a lot of the camp stories and interactions that occur in the slower parts of the games. There are dozens of confrontational scenes in those slower chapters that add to the sense of impending doom and the passing of an era .If you shave off 20 hours, a lot of the story may not work. The reason why this critique bothers me is that most who criticize length have often, not even experienced the game at hand to its fullest, to understand the significance of the length and yet demand for massive portions to be shaved off for the petty convenience of being able to finish the game quicker. I bet you would find western classics like the assassination of jesse james clunky as well because that, too, “drags on” to explore it’s characters and its world and era. I understand you perspective but it feels like a disingenuous complaint when I know you simply want it to be shorter, even if you are sure it will compromise the story’s ambition, simply because you want to get done with it quicker. Most open world fans want the worlds to sink in to their psyche, they want them to feel special and not just some “fun sandboxes”. Most rockstar fans waited 8 years for the sequel and tbh, I wouldn’t mind it being 50 hours longer if it meant spending more time with some of my favorite characters.
@hammadkhan450
@hammadkhan450 5 жыл бұрын
Incompetent the prologue instills the desperation that ultimately leads to the heightened sense of serenity and calm that you feel, once you move out of the snow. Also, slowing down the pace isn’t a bad thing. Rdr2 is heavily inspired by the assassination of jesse janes. If you have watched that film, the intention and purpose of the pace becomes very clear. I think it is very restricting creatively for storytellers to try to “ keep up the pace”. If the pace feels natural in the world, i appreciate it.

Aidan S it is not a horrible excuse at all. It may not have jived with you, that’s all. Also, the indians are in only a couple of missions and they are tied to the first rdr1, where we know that dutch will once again use a desperate people to further his gains. The purpose of the indians in rdr2, is too show that dutch’s ideals aren’t about saving the untamed world from the tyranny of corrupt governments, but rather to save himself alone. That whole part, lowers dutch in Arthur’s eyes, as it shows dutch putting a dying tribe in the way of the us army. It is a very well-written portion of the game imo and it shows dutch’s contradictory nature and hypocrisy.

I love that game, but that is repetitive. Not to mention the id shooters that have a few levels with a bunch of enemies sprinkled in, without story or anything. Not trying to diss on these games because I love them, but open world games are far from the most repetitive genre. Also sekiro is about the repetition.

I really like the characters and the certain twists that happen throughout the game that you dont expect. I really did get very attached to a lot of the characters and even cried when certain ones died. I feel like this was a genuine made game from developers who were having a good time developing it and really making it more for the consumers and less for "how much money can we make from this". You dont see that from a lot of games and I'm really glad I got to experience it without it being ruined for me by game reviewers like IGN and Metacritic

Yeah same here. As far as pure game reviews go, Skill Up is good. But that embarrassing white knighting he did for a hack video game journo was just sad. What's worse, is what does he gain from it? She works for a dying joke of a website. The evidence is there that she docked points from Days Gone over bullshit reasons. He defends her in spite of this, then later defends the game she gave a 5/10 to.

It really shocks me that so few people know that Days Gone is the original build for the last of us. And that Naughty scrapped it early in development because of a decision made to go with a linear more cinematic experience. That the original build for the late if us was essentially gifted to Sony Bend.

I might be in the minority here, but for me Days Gone was way more enjoyable than Red Dead Redemption 2. I actually got bored with RDR2 with all the monotonous busy tasks it has you do. Although technically much more polished, it just wasn't as fun as everyone made it out to be (for me anyway). Days Gone on the other hand didn't do this. It's also the first game since Mass Effect 2 that I've completed to 100%.

well I disagree, I find both Days Gone and RDR2 are very similar in immersive quality. I love both of these games for what they are and not hype. The quality of the writing are pretty ok, nothing too amazing, just above average. The Last of Us narrative is slightly better. Both Days Gone and RDR2 forces you to maintain your mount. Days Gone forces you to refuel and mod your bike, as for RDR2 you're forced to feed your horse and pet it constantly while riding to gain back stamina. Caring for your bike and horse is VERY ESSENTIAL for these games, if you don't treat your mounts right, you're basically screwed for these types of games. Bounty missions are pretty much the same more or less. Side missions and camps feel super similar too with side conversations. When it comes to Days and Red Dead Redemption 2. They're both equally good to me at least.
