Armored Kill - Tank Superiority Review (Battlefield 3 Gameplay/Commentary)

Here's a quick tip that's sort of insane, but actually works really well. If you ever get into a super close range encounter with an enemy tank, you might notice that even if you win, you'll wind up disabled or nearly dead. However, if you charge the enemy tank and ram it face-first (hitting it's broadside works best I've found), you'll actually lift it up and the driver won't be able to move the barrel far enough down to hit you. You can just pound away at its underside and it can't hit you.

They ruined the tank, I can't fire a tank shell and then a canister shell in rapid succession anymore. I have to wait for it to reload both

Another interesting this about the tank destroyers is that the side of the vehicle and angle of the shot DOESN'T matter when you get shot. You will get the same damage from the front, back and the sides. Which can open a posibility of just "dancing" behind a enemy tank, shoot the back of it for the most damage and not worry too much about which side of your vehicle you are exposing. (Tested on an empty server)

Yeah as Crusina said, in Battlefield 1943 they had Air Superiority. In this version there were two teams who each started on respective carriers on either side of basically a large circle of tall islands/mountains jutting out of the sea. In the center of this ring of islands is a single island with a capture point flag. The capture area was everything inside the ring of islands. Also you couldnt leave your planes unless on your carrier or on the enemy carrier but kills on the carriers got 0 pnt.

I agree with everything you said. The one main issue I seem to have is the para-dropping of attackers directly onto the MMCOMs. I just saw yesterday a ENTIRE attacking team drop behind well placed defenses right on top of the objectives and knife those who were already there ready to take out armor that never even arrived.

I'm imagining a skilled, smart Support guy driving an ATV, an ammo box on the ATV, and an engy riding on back with his javelin out would be a pretty good way to harass enemy armor.

Like i mentioned, aside from having slightly lower textures Mag has no problem running smoothly with 256 players (more impressively it does so with 3 seperate voice channels available to officers - allowing you to choose whether to talk to your squad, platoon or full company). PS3 launch title Resistance supports 40 players, Resistance 2 supports 60 players, even PS2 game Socom 3 supported 32 players (Socom 1 and 2 probably did too, but i don't have them anymore). I'm sure there are other...

Tbh that's the only part I found rewarding in Tank Superiority. Spawn recon, move as close to the flag as possible, put up a soflam and spawn beacon. That way my squad can spawn closer to the flag, I can soflam tanks on the other side of the flag (which doesn't happen when snipers camp in the back) and take out other recons/engineers going for the flag.

It operates similar to the patched main cannon/canister shell with the tank, firing one reloads both of them. If you want something close to rapid-fire, unlock the TOW missile.

When the tank destroyer gets guided shell, zoom optics is risky as a good team will use the laser designator. Even if you hug the back line.

the TOW missle and your main cannon is a good combo, depending on your enemie's load out, it usually a 2 or 3 hit destroy of a tank/tank destroyer

It did actually pop up on the screen momentarily in this clip, but it's weird that it wasn't for long. i always see it when repairing vehicles, perhaps it's the angle that you must face the vehicle to see the health display

The spawn trap can be significant in Alborz Mountain. The Russian team gets the short end of the stick.

i don't understand why so many dislikes, he just asked a question go with support, you'll be able to give your teammates ammo (wich in this gamemode will be more javelins and RPGs) and use C4 to destroy tanks hope it helped :)

I heard a very tiny bit about the T-50. Is one of the parameters for 5th generation fighters stealth? I also know that some of the newer SUs and Migs ,although they may not be considered 5th gen, are extremely maneuverable. The only bad thing about that is the flight physics in BF are less than realistic. IMO the physics are great but not up to snuff with actual flight sim programs.

Like there's two aircraft carriers in the middle of the sea where jets and helicopters spawn and you have to destroy the other aircraft carrier first. Would be a good mode to introduce some bombers.

You mention engineer and recon as the two classes to use, but I think support is important on some maps. On Death Valley I do well with my c4. When my tank blows up near the flag, I jump out and hide by those pillars.

I get tons of spawn campers in this mode on bandar desert. but if you can just get around the outside and close in one the tanks spawn camping, you can take tons of them out with c4

I play on the PS3 and bought this on September 4th, and in all I say that Armored Kill is pretty fun. Conquest is a bit empty most of the time, although this is mainly due to the console player limit... However, Tank Superiority is quite fun and is a new idea that just adds in a little bit of something fresh. I will say though, Rush is extremely broken right now with the Attackers getting tons of Armor to assault the bases and having the AC-130 constantly make disarming objectives impossible.

Try out the extinguisher. That thing really saved my ass more then smoke would do. It allows you to get one shot more on a victim in a direct tank battle before you die.

I still won at the second pair of bases on Alborz Mountain , and my team were composed of lvl50 vs lvl100, we got 3 guys with Iglas, and 1 with vehicles/tanks, and 8 guys around the bases... We've lost a base only at 10 ticket left... PS3 platform.

Kinda wish that the tanks would spawn far more frequently to avoid people waiting around their bases for a tank. The fighter planes from BF 1943 pretty much constantly respawned with no time wasting at the base. The waiting around in Tank superiority seems to just encourage people to go on foot and use javelins. I actually wouldn't mind it if you spawned directly into a tank, maybe even go as far as not being able to exit the tank. It's called Tank Superiority for a reason.

I have reactive armor for my TD. Means I can get up closer and still have some protection from the Javs and Guided shells.

I was using cannon High Explosive for the Tank Destroyer earlier on PS3. I'm pretty sure that it does more damage than the regular cannon, so I don't really find any reason to even use the regular cannon if the cannon HE reloads at the same speed, and is similar in any other way.

You can do well with all classes really ;) On rush defense I've done really well as assault, hanging around the mcoms, defusing, healing and reviving engineers as well as taking out enemy infantry that try to arm. On conquest, a squad with 1 recon, 1 support and 2 engineers is just BEAST. Try it out!

hey level cap. Saw you get out of the tank facing the enemy at 7:16 . Not sure if you know, but you get out at the side your facing when you hit e. So if you had swivelled the turret, and looked behind you, you would have got out with the tank as cover. Maybe you already know that, but it's a useful tip for those that don't anyway. :D

Dont discount the Assault class on AK, played with the AUG yesterday and completely outgunned enemy infantry with their short ranged carbines. Racked up a huge kill count, I dont think they were expecting anything but tanks. My favorite part of the expansion is just that, the infantry combat fighting alongside the APCs.

IMO Armored Kill was just bigger maps with AC-130 an ATV thrown in to it. But its really nice with new maps, im lovin it.

at 3:50 in that situation the tank destroyers HE rounds might be helpful by killing anyone close enough to repair in a few hits (but someone will need to test that to see if its true) the HE rounds dont seam to do much less damage eather

That would be awesome, but it would have to be TDM style, since you can't have a control point in the air, since jets can't cap it, and helis would be very vulnerable while capping. If there was infantry they would all igla or stinger and make it too hard for more pilots.

They should make a system in armored kill of like, having only one stinger/igla per squad or engineer in that squad, or make it have less ammo. that should take care of the stinger spamming. and they should push the attackers on rush a bit backwards in their starting position so as the defenders and attackers have about 50/50 chance of getting there first.

i actually really like tank superiority, i found it to be more laid back and fun than all the other bf3 gametypes it is definitely a fun gamemode, and i am more excited about it than rush or conquest on the armored kill maps

They should really bring back the way you could throw C4 in Bad Company 2. Especially with the speed of the tank destroyers, it is very hard when C4 falls at your feet.

I play with Luetin and he advocates optics rather than smoke. It's good to get kill but to get the win probably smoke is the most effective way to get the win.

I didn't try tank superiority yet, but the conquest maps were simply awesome if you love vehicle combat, and even though I'm on console there was action! (True the server I was in had a lot of good players) I always thought the large vanilla maps didn't have enough vehicles to play them effectively, because once you've killed the 1 or 2 tanks, there is nothing to do for 90 seconds, whereas now it's an endless stream of powerful vehicles pouring into the grinder!

You're right, it isn't as explosive, that's why they can unlock a High explosive shell for more splash damage.

its really really fun on PC.. and not too many balance issues on full servers as there are designated infantry and tank engineers.. but on low player count servers we do get to know what the console guys were shouting about..

I noticed the tank destroyers if you shoot on a ledge usually knocks you off it. I was on the edge if the death valley bridge and fell off because I shot 3 times and it moved my tank back. =|:3
