It's so refreshing to hear a pilot who's relaxed about the loss of the gunner flares. I really think that the howls of anguish are overblown somewhat,as it requires a little more skill with flying the bird & breaking off from attacking to fly defensively until the flares regenerate,but this isn't anywhere near the total ruination of the potential of these massively powerful assets that many pilots would have people believe.Thanks for putting a bit of perspective on this Level.

missles also circle around your jet/chopper alot with the ECM and will hit you when it runs out every now and then flares seem to work more often in actually blocking the missles

FIM92 and IGLA now lock on to air vehicles at both lower altitudes and longer distances. This comes from the AK patch notes, however there is no mention of how low can they lock on, it might just completely ignore below radar.

No, the rockets will always point towards the main crosshair but depending on the way you're facing, they deviate towards the I - hence you aim between the two.

True, some were crazy scared of the prospect of no flares for gunner, but it just makes you more aware of your situation and leave sooner when things go nuts. I think it's more fun now.

Super awesome gameplay. Gah, makes me want to get on and helo some. Was kind of surprised you didn't call out direction changes. My friend and I call out give me left right, turning left right. So if he's suddenly banking I know which way to expect to have to aim, and if something is just out of view I tell him to change position a little. Sometimes I tell him to come around a certain way since I can see the ground and sightlines a little better from my gun cam.

If there are heatseekers on the way you can press ECM and fly low. The Missiles will fly around your Helicopter and if you are flying low in the ground.

below radar now only works against other vehicle locks, but stinger/igla can lock onto any aircraft at any altitude within 400m i believe

LVL, you should do a review of the helicopter's below radar abilities. It seems like post patch below radar doesn't work, such as at 7:26. It seems like it might work against air vehicles locking on but I believe it was changed so that shoulder mounted rockets will now lock, even though there is nothing in the patch notes about it.

I think the ECM is better. It has a longer duration then flares. A lot of people think you can't dodge incoming missiles with the ECM, BUT YOU CAN. To do this wait till your locked on then hit the ECM, and move the heli from the position where you became locked. Once you've moved, the missiles won't hit you because they are picking up the heat signature of your last position. Thus them flying off, out of control when it reaches it's target, but if you don't move theirs a chance you will get hit.

the funny thing is that now flares don't distract Laser Guided missiles anymore (they did after the 27 of march on the PS3, PC and X-Box a bit later) - DICE "missed" to announce this change - so now you've to decide between flares, which reloads faster, but don't protect you vs. Javelin and co., and the ECM, which has a longer reload time, so you've to stay most of the time outside the battlefield

if that is the case which i highly doubt it is. that would be because the person using the emc doesnt realize you have to use it while being locked and not after being locked onto. the emc also stops guided shells which the ir flares do not.

I think below radar applies automatically to vehicles. It makes you immune to lock-ons whilst below a certain height.

If you disable a vehicle (as matimio did with the gunner's cannon), then that enemy vehicle crashes, the person who disabled it it gets a roadkill bonus. Roadkills don't only apply to flying/driving over someone.

Tip for all chopper pilots: for rocket pods, the point of aim should be the capital I that keeps on moving around, aim only between the crosshair and the I when the target is very close, like 10 meters.

i too have been experimenting with the first and second slots of the attack chopper like you and it's hard to say whats best. i love the guided rockets but i also like stealth to run away from stingers and such. I have also thought about if both the pilot and gunner have stealth would that continue to increase lock on time? i don't know but i cant wait to see new content from lvlcap about the chopper if he chooses to do so.

that explains a lot. im always afraid of pilots attacking from above. when they come from the side, I almost have an instinct by now. when I hear a few minigun bullets passing by I pull the mouse all over my table to alternate my direction and height as fast as I, then transition into highspeed low-altitude evasive route, and im 99% gone. but from above, no chance :D ProTip: have your minimap on the largest scale and turn it on from time to time. Tells where those jets are, very helpful

yeah! exactly :D though the way i aim depends on the distance to the target, if i'm nose diving towards a tank(100m-300m) i generally aim with the upper part of the "stick thingy" :D if the tank is way out (600-1000m) i aim with the lower part and then i aim with the middel for the rest :P

you are right, ECM has longer reload. If u lock on the a jet fire one - he flares - u wait 3, 4 seconds -fire on more and it hits - 10 seconds after your first shot u have a new missile which you fire and does it hit? no cause he flares again, so i think flares has 9-12 sec reload what ECM has maybe 15+ or so not sure though :D

The stick thingy is the direction of where the missiles are going to hit so normally if your moving around alot (up down etc.) it'll move i just aim at the centre of the stick thing seems to work :P

The cause is from Gunner flares being removed from the game since the patch. But I would've thought ECM jammer was better anyway so I'm not sure.

nah, the rockets the pilot shoots have a weird drop. see the little vertical line moving all over the crosshair? that is where your rockets will most likely land, not completely accounting for turns and dives.

I just thought of an awesome chopper upgrade.. SPOTLIGHT, a giant bright light that you shine onto ground enemies to spot them, keeping an enemy in the light will keep them spotted on the radar, good for low visibility levels like Tehran, Noshahr and Valley

an interesting thing is that when two rockets are fired at someone who used ecm jammer one rocket will hit but the other deflected, so when firing rockets on ecm jammer users fire both rockets

Rigth, but if you use flares it doesn't hit you at any chance, it just dodges you. On ECM its still locked on the Jet/Heli and the chance that you hit is very high. I've hit every time I used the IGLA at an ECM vehicle. With the Stinger it doesn't work for me.

Tip if you have below radar and if you are fighting heli vs heli try locking on him as low as possible (he cant see you on the map and he cant lock on you and youre out of sight)

oddly i dun have that problem when the ppl are using stingers. after u evade the missile think of what could be locking on to ya, if its infantry ascend, if its aircraft descend. what could be so hard. all it means it that u need to change the way ya fly them

Yeah about that, I think it is more about adapting to the new system more than learning how to fly don´t you think. I guess that when you have 25 service stars as a pilot in choppers, any pilot knows how to fly them but when it comes into adapting in to this weird change they made, it is a completely different thing.

Matimi0 You should have infrared enabled the whole time exept for air to air combat. You were barely using it while fighting infantry. LevelCap When you see a chopper or a jet on the radar right next to you you can hold your right mouse butten to look around. You might already know this but I just wanted to remind you :)

hey level i am a pretty good chopper pilot i learned all my tricks watching get to the chopper. since the patch, its damn near impossible to fly effectively you have to fly so defensive now because EVERYBODY uses igla/stinger now if you engage a chopper or jet, pop ur ECM and dive down to get below radar, you get boned by AA missles almost every time.is it just me, or does below radar no longer work anymore? they really screwed up taking flares away,at best they only worked 50% of the time

Lvl what would be the best set up to you post patch? i noticed you not using ecm nemore so you think flares are better now? i play on console and i been having a really hard time using the ecm it seems that doesnt work agains iglas/stingers when they fired at me the missile jst goes around and around went the ecm stops working boom!! it hits me and i get killd i already send a feedback to dice they havent done nething yet this problem start since the last patch n below radar went to shit either

@calowski havoc does 4x more damage to the viper than the viper does to the havoc. did you not notice hoe fast the viper went down?

I'm surprised you didn't use your rockets against helicopters more. It's more effective than heat seekers at closer ranges. Especially at the end then you came face to face with the Z11. I don't know about anyone else but most of my kills against helicopters came from my rocket pods since the patch.
