I’m about 3 weeks away from starting the same project and your video is awesome and super helpful. Thank you

Now that your epoxy garage job is about 2 years old how well has the Armorpoxy product held up?
@chimrichalds1422 Жыл бұрын
Hi everyone considering this product. Word to the wise.... If you decide on using primer, epoxy and standard top coat do not plan on using brake clean. It melts in about 1 minute leaving brown discoloration.

What's brake clean
@chimrichalds142210 ай бұрын
@darkagain1263 It's an aerosol spray cleaner used for automotive type repairs, really good at removing grease and grime. However once it's gets on this epoxy it will ruin it very quickly. If you don't use it then you'll probably be fine. I haven't noticed anything else that eats the epoxy.

I'll be doing my garage here in a few weeks. The throw test is genius! Hadn't thought about that!

At the end of the day, if you’re happy with the result, that’s all that counts. There will always be “experts” who will tell you how they could have done it better. Personally, I think you did a great job. It’s definitely an improvement over what you started with. The fact that it looks great and is easy to clean are the two biggest pluses. It seems to be holding up well. Good job

One thing that helps if you have a bigger space, break it up into 1 gallon sections with pieces of masking tape so you can have more time by making separate batches. That also makes the coverage more uniform. I have done my workshop with gray no chips 3000 square feet, woodshop with chips and military top, 2000 square feet, and my parking garage the same way 1150 square feet. I didn’t use chips in the automotive shop because it makes it too hard to find small hardware.

If you get a painters lamp, they're round, made of aluminum, the regular bulbs they use( not the lights that get burning hot) simply screw into the middle of these aluminum lamps. These type of lights are sold everywhere and they're very cheap and they have a clamp that allows you to attach them to a step ladder. So if you attach this light to a small step ladder and place it behind you as you're rolling on the top coat you'll clearly be able to see what's been top coated and what isn't. The small circles this fellow got in his topcoat are called fisheyes and that's another story, but he did a great job, especially prepping

Where do you get the mat that you put your vehicle on? Definitely helps with keeping floor protected.

It looks great! I watched a video where they did the chips after the primer coating. Does that make a difference?

I forgot a couple things, that beaded area in the clear coat are common as you go you will see them, you probably rolled out several of them, the lighting in that spot just kept you from seeing it. I have a couple pairs of spike shoes, those flat ones like you had are ok but they have to be tight, I also have a pair called stabilicers, for ice of course, they have good rubber straps. I don’t use them too much, I lay out the room in sections no bigger than 8’ then I spread the chips as I go. I did 1150 square foot garage in 92” x25’ sections one gallon each by myself, took about 6 hours. Top coat is urethane hence the smell. I use a deep vee roller pan from Purdy, that allows me to mix with the drill every other time I dip the roller. That corundum dust settles fast.

Thank you for your review. I think it looks great. Planning on doing our new garage floor (2500 sq feet) in a few weeks and you definitely helped me decide what extra items to get. I was pretty nervous about doing it ourselves but cannot justify paying someone else to do it. Great job!!!

Thanks for the great video. I'm planning to epoxy my garage floor in the near future too. Did you ever figure out the issue with the top coat?
@Mike-lf7px Жыл бұрын
Would heating the top coat help? I see how they use a little torch when putting down clear epoxy. Of course I would wait until the epoxy drys before heating the top coat. Just wondering

Great review. I’m going to be doing mine this week. I’d guess the issues in the top coat were due to heavy application. It looks like the surface tension was able to draw some high spots. If applied thinner it may not do that. Not being able to see it probably makes it really hard to tell if you have full coverage. Nice work.

I'm having same issue as you. I want to put second coat because coverage some areas look different. My issue is once you put first layer and do the flecks do you think you can paint second coat over the flecks or think really mess it up.
@BullnoseGarage4 жыл бұрын
If I were going to do another coat it would just be clear... Which just goes over the flecks anyway. If you do another coat of color, then it would cover the flecks and you would need to re-fleck the floor to see them. You'd also probably see the texture of the old flecks underneath. If you've already put clear on and want to do another color coat, then I think you'll need to rough up the floor mechanically so the color will stick to the clear.

Hi there, I’m thinking of doing epoxy in my garage. Do you still recommend Armor Proxy after 2 years ?
@Skyhawks19794 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the extensive review and instructions. I used Armorpoxy on a floor about 10 years ago and love the stuff. It is super hard and durable. Just purchased a new home and getting ready to use it again.

Great review! Unless I missed it, how long did you have to wait to drive on?
@BullnoseGarage4 жыл бұрын
Armorpoxy recommends 3-4 days before driving on it, but it was probably a full week or more before I had the truck in there. I wasn't in a hurry.

I don’t always comment, but when I do, it’s because they deserve it, 👏. The reason for the topcoat is because some spots were missed in the first coat, started to dry by the second, and second coat creates a kind of lens. Fickle product.
