In this video, I talk about using your arms and wrists correctly to help stabilize the club face and create speed for the club. This can be practiced with your feet together to feel the movement and then with your normal set up. To get the most out of this, I recommend taking it slowly to start. Then, when you are happy, increase the speed. Remember to set the wrists in the back swing and release them at impact. Get this right, and it is a sure way to hit the golf ball longer and straighter.

I have looked at hundreds of golf videos to find the elusive secret of a good golf swing and I always come back to your videos and I have to admit that they are the best instruction to learn a simple repeatable swing without manoeuvring the body and hands into all kinds of contortionistic positions to get the same result. Thanks.

Jack Nicklaus once said that a golfer can never release his club to soon. Personally I do not do this with my hands and wrist at the top of my swing as theirs is a reaction to my action of initiating and finishing my down swing with the power and direction of my lead forearm as my body’s uncoils to its finish. You know I had to put my 2 cents in. Ha ha. This 7 part series of yours is Teerific and it’s like checking into a 5 start Hotel with proper service. ⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️!

Watching the tried, tested and true methods that you offer never grow old. These lessons are beneficial to both old and young or anyone struggling to improve their game. It’s been educational and enjoyable to watch Brian Sparks and now you demonstrate the “easiest” swing and “proper” swing for everyone, especially those individuals of my age group. Well done Julian.👍👨‍🦳🇨🇦

Love this series. One has to assume the hands have only enough hold pressure to keep the grip and hence club face steady. This means that the wrists cannot have any tension in order to have the club hinge and unhinged.
@JulianMellor

Great and it makes sense. One think that I notice is that it’s difficult to think your way though the take back and then cocking the club. Is it advisable to start the turn and have the destination for the club over the right shoulder instead? Saves more thinking. Thanks for replying really appreciate this. PS, my husband is currently switching from left to right hand using your techniques.

Hi Julian; I'm not a teacher but from the many videos I've seen from too many KZbin teachers & even taking lessons, I feel that grip pressure is one of the most important parts of the swing & the least stressed. Only the proper set-up & grip are ahead of grip pressure. Most people pull the club from the top which immediately causes more pressure rather than allowing it to swing freely with relaxation. The only thing I disagree with is your statement that wrist position doesn't matter much. If my wrist isn't flat at the top, I tend to cup it a bit & causes the ball to go left. Lefthanded golfer, & bowing usually causes a pull. I find that if I keep my thumbnail straight up at hip level & keep it there, my wrist stays flat on the backswing & squares the face at impact. The top of my wrist is facing the target at impact. Would you agree that with the right grip pressure, it will cause the swing to feel a bit out of control until you get used to the difference? Great video by the way, especially for high handicappers. Thanks!
@JulianMellor
@JulianMellor Жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, depending on the way you grip the club you can have a bowed , cupped or straight wrist at the top. What I like is a natural wrist hinge and not a false one. Tension is rarely spoke about with so many coaches and yet it’s so important

Ideally you’ve released the club head at impact and turned and weight shifted through impact which coordinates the hands, arms and body, I would recommend that your roll your wrists through impact 👍

At 75 yrs old, I'm not able to make the large tilted backswing that all these pros seem to advocate. I need to make a much more level shoulder turn. Is this large tilting action that is being emphasized as absolute essential for hitting the golf ball solid? This tilting action is killing my lower back and not allowing me to rotate fully in the downswing
@JulianMellor
@JulianMellor Жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, absolutely not, it’s important that you work with your body not against it. What annoys me is so many coaches teach the same methods to all their students and don’t consider another option. Just remember to keep your shoulders relaxed and it should help with your swing.
