Awesome info! I’m a beginner and still learning. But I found a 60L board for a good price. I’m 69kg and I’ve prone foiled for years. I can get up nearly every time assuming there’s wind. Looks like a sweet board when the wind is right!

Yeah, 60L for 70-80kg is a pretty good light wind board, regardless of shape. I used to go out in light wind, now I just do some other activities if it's not enough for 34L board.

I just bought this board a couple weeks ago. I’m really enjoying it so far.

Hello Artem, excellent review. I appreciate the time that you put into these videos--I also use the Option-O, though am now considering the Weber Workshops Key. I digress. I recently sized down to the 75L. It's a fantastic board but I, too, think that the handle is useless. It needs to be larger, not angled, and perhaps with a central recess that would allow one to 'grip' onto something. How long did you ride the FG WING SUP before moving onto the FG WING SURF? I weight 82kg and am working to move down to the 39L.

Thanks mate! I'm pretty happy with Option-O grinder, don't think I'll be looking for any upgrades for a while. Except for the handle it's a perfect board, probably stiffer than any board out there. You can start trying the surf version right away, it'll take time... You can go out in no wind a few times just to get the feel of balancing it underwater, and doing stinkbug method. As long as you don't cut the wing/yourself consider it a good sesh .. Took me at least 3-4 sessions before I could get up on it.

@@SilverFoilSurfer Thank you! Now the question is whether I buy the smaller board now or wait to see if Armstrong brings out something new this summer.

I think the current 39L would be a good board.

The little pocket on the bag is for the shoulder strap to fit in for transport (you unhook the front side and roll it up and tuck it in the pocket).... or a water bottle.
@SilverFoilSurfer3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, makes more sense as a strap pocket.

Great review. And love the starting shots. Most videos don’t show the start. Just up on foil. That’s my biggest concern going to a smaller board. How strong were the winds and what size wing?
@SilverFoilSurfer2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It was a gusty day, probably 18-35 knots, 3.5m wing. For me 75kg 60L now feels just right.

Thank you so much for a detailed review. 😘😍 I was going to buy the Armstrong board because of the 'going through' board carrying handle😂🤣 I am a low intermediate wing foiler (jibe pretty well, but cannot tack yet) and riding with 112 liter board since my area has very light wind. (No problem riding 90 liter starboard though). When (at what level of wing foiling) do you think I should try sinker board?? I also weigh 74 kg
@SilverFoilSurfer2 жыл бұрын
Despite the bad handle design, army boards are still probably best on the market for their weigh/stiffness/overall quality, I'm pretty happy with it. Weight wise you're pretty similar so I'd get 60L for everyday use (no need for a bigger board), for 18-20+ knots get a sinker 34L or 39L, I have 34L, I'll reply in your other comments what's the main difference 60L vs 34L.

Thanks for the review. I am 87kg looking at the 75l 5”2 board. Keen to know what is the lightest you would take this out in?
@SilverFoilSurfer2 жыл бұрын
I'm at 75 kg on a 60L board, after getting used to the board, it's no different in light wind days than my 90L board. The only thing is that when the wind drops bellow ~6 knots (there is no pressure in the wing) you can't really knee taxi back to the shore, it's either you paddle back or have to constantly pump the wing on your knees. At 87 kg and 75L board it should be similar situation.

@@SilverFoilSurfer great to hear. That’s what I was thinking also. Thanks for your feedback.

Just starting to think about getting into this sport. I'm the same weight as you, so good to get your perspective on equipment to select.
@SilverFoilSurfer Жыл бұрын
As for the board 90-100L to learn (get used one or rent/borrow, don't invest too much money into it, you'll get rid of it), ~60L for light wind days and 30-40L for strong wind days once you pick it up properly. For wing, depends on your local conditions, but in general for 77kg it's 5-5.3m wing and 3.5-4m would cover you.

Hi there, at 60L, at 75kg, is the board sinking a lot when you start? Are you able to do a kneeling start or is it more of a water start? cheers
@SilverFoilSurfer2 жыл бұрын
I'm about the same weight, 72-74kg, during knee start it sinks a bit (~10 cm) but once you get some forward momentum it rises up and it's no different than any other 80+L board. This 60L is plenty as a light wind days board for me.
