what an insane bass trombone sound from the section!

Anyone complaining about the quality of these soloists, I would venture to say have little to no experience with jazz (which is fine - just sayin') or are a part of the current culture of helicopter observations and opinion. That is, having plenty of criticism about anything and everything under the sun without a shred of suggestion of what would make it better and/or no comprehension of what it is supposed to be in the first place. That is the danger of today's internet society - too many internet PHDs smh. Great playing Marshall, Javier, Nick and Jiggs - KUDOS!!!!!

I don't think you need to have a suggestion for improvement to criticize something. And to be fair this live recording is not very flattering sonically. Otherwise I think I agree with you. Nick is always awesome and Javier has an amazing tone and articulations

Absolutely agree. Only Bill Waltrous and these guys can do this. Having played trombone most of y life, what these guys are doing is extraordinary. I designed an album for my good friend and composer, David Holt. Bill played on the session. Never heard playing like that before or after. He left much too soon. Great guy. RIP.

@@Tsmowl I feel like you have to at least know how the words you are saying apply to what you are criticizing though.

These are some top players for sure but I'd rather hear more musicality than acrobatics.

Very boring solo trombonists. Tired musicians. No music. Excuse me for the direct feedback.

Trombone solos are bit of an acquired taste. They sounded fine. This is jazz.

I would argue that some of your solo works are a little boring as well. The same idea can only go so far...
@dudeman36646 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Jazz trombone = 30 years behind saxophonists and perpetually trying to prove they are "just as good." There's a reason you know why every time trombonist travel abroad they whizz through immigration...Yah, they just simply always have nothing to declare.
