Yea. Don’t care what branch you’re in. Cadence calling with a dedicated cadence caller is the most fun, fulfilling and incredible thing to see and be a part of. Especially when not only the platoon/battalion is involved but also when everyone sounds great too. How could you not love this.

@@ceoa gotta tell ya. You’re gonna fall in love with cadences. They amp you up passively and straightforward. You won’t even realize that extra mile you walked singing with them. You’ll see.

@@ceoawell that makes sense since cadence literally decended from slave era field work songs.....which were then transplanted to the rail laying teams which were largely made of freed slaves and then found a home in the army.

Pop survived multiple tours in Vietnam. Deployments to Central/South America, Iraq 1 and 2. Made me promise him I wouldn't join the Army. I honored his wish. Joined the Corps in 91.

It's not that special lol. Lots of complete idiots and degenerates join and are forced into the military. Many more join for the free college and other benefits. It's a job just like other jobs. A seasoned war fighter earns his above average respect but every Jack boot sitting on base playing cards and changing oil isn't some top tier human just because they are in the military. Special Forces, fighter pilots, SOAR... a few groups are a very special human but the cook who did 4 years to get a g i bill ain't special. He's smart for taking advantage of the benefits. I have friends who were in the GWOT and they hate people like you who think you're some special person because you volunteered.

I don't know if I could exactly explain it. It was like one heartbeat combining all of us together. It reminds us of the conviction of protecting and defending the Constitution of the United States and maintain ourselves to the Army values just like the dog gone Spartans. It was a coping tool that when we went to war and we had to be in a subdued state we knew we were still one. To be fearless with a true purpose we March righteously.

If you can do "There's a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea" in its entirety, YOU are the GOAT. I did so as a drill sergeant at FLW from the tower back to the barracks. The...entire...cadance.... We ended JUST as we got back to the barracks.

Make sure that you look at all of the different military job options that you have before you sign on the dotted line. For example, they will pay you to learn a foreign language and become an interpreter. The military will fly you out to California to spend a year or two on the beach, learning a new language. You just have to score high enough on the ASVAB and DLAB tests for this to be a possibility.

As someone who DID that route, it is a seriously hard path to be a linguist. Yeah, you’ll be in Monterey Bay, Cali, BUT you’re never going to see the sun, any time you aren’t in class, you’re going to be studying because linguists has a STUPIDLY high drop out rate. Fail an exam? You’re out. The DLAB is a fun test, though, it’s in a made up language, but you’re given certain rules that the language follows and you’re supposed to figure it out from there. For the DLAB, you need to have a minimum of an 85 (? Don’t quote me on it, I took the test 10 years ago) in science to be even ALLOWED to take it. But if it’s what you want to do, absolutely go for it. I wish you the best in your journey!
