I miss my time in the 82nd. I bounced around 2nd Brigade from 2006 to 2012. Trying to go back into the Army. Maybe I will be back at Bragg. After all, it's the black hole for Paratroopers.

Those new barracks are nice, I was in 2 battalion in 2000-2004. The new ones were getting built as I was getting out. We lived in the old white barracks built from way back in the day. Across the airborne px. You guys are lucky, the old barracks, where we worked, the arms room, everything was all in one building. You basically worked from your room. I was in 1st plt so we were on the first floor. There was just one long hallway from CQ desk to 1st sgt room to our rooms. We were always the first to get volunteered to do a crap detail. Also, we just had a mini fridge and microwave, bunk beds, two soldiers per room, one restroom and shower per floor.

I was Air Defense Artillery 16S Redeye/Stingers '83-86. Peacetime Army. No wars. No deployments. Garrison life was chill. Vehicle maintenance, Aircraft and armored vehicle recognition slides. A couple times a year the MTS (Moving target simulator facility). Barracks maintenance ( a lot), weapons and mask maintenance, Common tasks training, various details and a lot of standing/sitting around waiting for stuff to happen. In the field we did our 'duck hunter' thing but Stingers were in two man teams in isolated positions so no one messed with us.

I was in the 82nd airborne division. I’ve been out for 4 years now. But as I recall I’d say every like 2 months for like a week or so/sometimes 3 days ore just even a couple days. And being infantry you don’t really go a month without doing something in the field, even for like 1 day.

Yeah i have a roommate but we have our separate rooms. All we share is a kithchen an bathroom. Once you get to reception thats when you find out if you will be a 11B or 11C. Majority of people get 11B. Wish you the best out there and goodluck.
