Illegal downloads killed this band and all the bands around this era. Richad Patrick attested to this in an interview and it makes sense. It was probably at its worst back when these guys were around.
@chriswilliamson90304 жыл бұрын
@@nicholasicon The thing that killed sales for this band had nothing to do with mp3's. It had everything to do with how they decided to release this album. They used a division of their management company called "the firm music, inc." . The idea was they would take their music directly to the distributors to cut record labels out of the equation. Hence, the lack of marketing and almost nonexistent PR. Since this made a fraction fo what any of the artists in that band were used to (Aside from Ray). The DeLeo brothers peaced out.
@DavidS-kz7ik4 жыл бұрын
It wasn't marketed well. Ray recently said in an interview that AOA were basically "guinea pigs" for the label they were on. It barely got radio play, no marketing and only one tour. Plus, the Deleo brothers decided to bring back STP when Scott agreed to come back. So that pretty much sealed their fate. Great band, great album. Ray has been kicking ass in KoRn ever since AOA split.

As a persone who lives in Mexico, I still haven't met one person that have heard about Filter (I'm 29 and still no one), so I could tell they're really underrated, at least in my country! STP or Velvet Revolver are not that famous here, just bands like Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Audioslave, RHCP, SOAD

Dean Deleo, one of my absolute all-time favorites. Who else could write and play out-of-key guitar solos and make them work like beautifully composed magic? His overbends and hesitation in bending is stylistically unique. I could listen to him all day.

This song brings me back to when I was a teenager. Prior to hearing this song, my passion for the drums was really gaining steam. However once I heard this song and saw Ray blasting his solo on the music video, it basically sealed the deal for me. I remember seeing that part he does with one hand and trying to wrap my mind around how he did it. Now I know, but it stunned me for some time.

@@kevinherd3437 I don't think it would be fair to judge him based on his time with NIN - Reznor was pretty brutal to work with in the early days of NIN and has expressed some regrets about it in interviews since, he pushed Rich pretty hard. But it was 100% about making the music and the end result is pretty legendary at this point, from the rawness of the early records to the intensity of the early live performances. Kind of a sacrifice for the performance.

That said; I find some of the tunes on this album 'overplaying' from a drumming standpoint. Prefer Eric's less busy style for STP et al.. Nice guys, for sure. And great music. Two hidden gems for me!
