Excellent video! I served with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment. We, the entire Regiment, were awarded the Army Valorous Unit Award for our Actions in Combat in the Ground Offensive against Iraq in Operation Desert Storm, in 1991.

Very informative. I wasn't ever exactly sure which unit citation to individual award equivalent was. The only thing that infeel was skipped over was the authorization of a permanent award vs. temporary award when it comes to wearing a unit award. I dont know how many times ive had to explain to 1SGs or company commanders that although our unit doesnt have any awards I'm still allowed to wear mine because they are permanent awards.

My father received both a PUC and VUA in the Vietnam War. He makes it seem like it’s nothing. From my understanding this wasn’t nothing however. All of those for being in the 11th Infantry during his second half overseas during 1970. I had to go out of my way to get his physical medals (not uniform medals) as he didn’t care to ever get them. However, I couldn’t get a copy of his Purple Hearts for whatever reason (on his uniform medals with 1 Star). His highest medal he received was an ARCOM for his personal actions during Operation Fish Hook. I have to second guess if his unit citations and ARCOM were a big deal because anytime I’ve asked he has told me “ah, I don’t know or care, I was just doing what I had to do”.

Very nice & informative. Grandpa has a Pres Unit Citation w/ 2 oak leaf cluster & asia- pacific campaign with 3stars among others from WW2. During Defense of the Phils he's with the 62nd Inf Regiment & after POW he joined the 8th Army Hq during Liberation (don't know the specific unit).

Hello there, I have a general question about ribbon decorations. Is there an official or standard material for the ribbons? Are the ribbons considered fake if they are made from a different material or the material does not matter as long as they represent the proper decorations? I ask this because I have seen few examples of Presidential unit citations that are enamel, rather than a real ribbon material.

Very nice I have the meterious unit citation award ( red) in Korea a in a detached unit of all things .many actions happened in the 70s 80 s that was not public knowledge,to keep from all out war but many soldiers served with distinction.I consider it a honor to have received it....but what is the white one. I know the blue is the presidential unit (101st 82nd 175th ECT..)

How can I determine which unit citations my father deserves based on his service in Vietnam? I have his DD 214 but it only shows his decorations. Doesnt really say if he gets a specific unit citation.

I was awarded the Army Superior Unit Award, and don't exactly know where it is worn after you leave the unit. Is it worn in the unit on the right breast, but when you go to a new unit, or Fort Living room, I think it goes on the left breast on your stack of ribbons. IF this is the case, does the gold laurel frame that surrounds the ribbon also included in the stack or is it removed for uniformity for the ribbon with the other ribbons? I'm asking this because I was contemplating getting a set of miniatures to wear on a sport jacket for military functions with the VFW or Veteran's Day.

you could move it over for personal wear, it would have to keep the frame which is part of the award. maybe best as a lapel pin. send me an emai address and I will send you a picture of mini ribbons with the unit awards moved over to the bottom row.

I am sure my Unit in Vietnam was awarded Presidential Unit Citations (think we got the blue one and also the red one) These do not show on my DD214. Also the RVN ribbon I guess was awarded those whom served in Vietnam after I was out of the Army. Should I go to my county Veterans service to research ? Do I need to get some type of update on my DD214? You may have had this question before as veterans get set to do a shadow box.

Army unit awards have published orders with the time period. Let me know what unit you were in and the time you were there and I will double check it for you. The Vietnamese unit cross of gallantryIs authorized every soldier who served in Vietnam.
