Hi everyone, thanks for all the kind words and feedback on this one, and to those who shared their own stories! Also, check out this video if you want to see what this devil grass looks like when maintained, see the link below! It might surprise you ;) (the footage in the link was taken during winter, so there is still room for improvement) kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2TQp39sed1qmpY

Finder of the lost garden beds too. I didn’t know the ones near the house were there. 👍 I also found mowing & hedging helped me feel grounded. I can’t do it now as I have carpel tunnel & have lost strength in my arms. What a calm puppy dog that was. Usually they are barking at the mower it whipper sniper. Thank you to all veterans for their service. 👍👏

Sean, your preface to your video today explaining about mental health struggles and to reach out to someone that can help, will undoubtedly result in some viewers getting help. I think that is probably more important than the work you do for free. Bravo! This was a great video. Excellent on not cutting on the plant for the bees. Loved the dog. Nice work once again!

I am so impressed with your willingness to speak of your MH issues and help to break down the stigma of getting MH help, where ever you find it. Before I retired I spent over 20 years providing MH services for the USMC and stigma continues to be a problem for vets getting help. Good on you!

Peter, I live near Camp Lejeune and I often have vets walk up to me and ask if they can talk to me! I often wonder if I have a sign on my forehead! But I do have a BA in psychology and don't mind listening. I will often refer those I talk with to one of the many mental health facilities in the area, as I'm not qualified to actually council.
@petermorris6052
@petermorris6052 3 жыл бұрын
@@krissgross2335 One of the biggest problems reducing thee stigma of MH services for active duty servicemembers is there is intentional and/or unintentional interference within the ranks and the officer corps. Not everyone, but enough to continue to perpetuate the idea that getting help isn't a warrior virtue. I love the Corps but it was a daily fight to get command leadership to accept that mental health issues are readiness issues that require confidentiality. Top brass knows and mostly supports the efforts of the Department of Defense civilians who provide services, but for the most part mental health services for the USMC are the purview of Navy Psychology. Their responsibilities include reporting to the command, so there is the (appropriate) fear that there is limited or no confidentiality. Thus servicemembers seek out civilian providers (if they seek help at all), and then cost becomes an issue. Thank you for taking the time to try to help! Listening is an important skill.

I am really glad that it is becoming easier for people to talk about mh and to get it treated without them being treated like trash. My father, a Vietnam vet, suffered from ptsd up until the 2000s. I watched him slowly become more withdraw as I grew up. I am really happy he got help and because of that it gave me the courage to also seek help once I realized there was something wrong. He is so much happier and outgoing than before. It is just too bad that the chemicals the US used during the war is giving him cancer

You're a good man, Sean. I suffer from MH issues which shut two businesses I ran and haven't worked for four years. If it wasn't for my wife, I wouldn't be here. I found writing about my illness cathartic and really helped me work through it. Good day, bad days are what we face and every day presents a challenge. It's recognising when we need to meet the challenge or give ourselves permission to protect ourselves, to have a day for us. You've found what works for you, what gives you passion and something you enjoy. That is precious in this world and I wish you well in your journey to recovery. Also, I do find a sense of humour (especially one with a dark side) helps get through the days. You've got that in spades.

Well done Sean and Will, the place came up a treat. I had a rough night last night and missed the premiere. Wise words about mental health mate. Admitting you need help is the first step to healing. My own admission came only after my wife of 35 years threatened to leave me if I didn't get some help. The rest, as they say, is history and today is the last day of a 43 year career in the Army and law enforcement. Now it's time to move on and enjoy life. Anyway Sean, this is your channel not mine. Also, I'm glad you prefaced the video with encouraging people dealing with mental health issues to seek help and have a chat with someone. I spent a lot of years in the military too. I served in Rwanda during their civil war and genocide. I served in Somalia, Bosnia and Afghanistan too. Rwanda was the worst followed by Afghanistan. I resigned from the military 10 years ago after being in Afghanistan. I just couldn’t do it anymore. I still have nightmares about Rwanda and all the bodies everywhere. I can still smell it even in my sleep. I eventually had to get psychiatric help I got so depressed and anxious. It helped a lot but it will never get rid of all the nightmares. So from one veteran to another just keep on putting one foot in front of another.

Thank you for your honesty about your mental health issues. One of the best ways to battle depression is helping others. As you give of your self God blesses you and the person you help. It is a great elevator for your mood too. Physical work is excellent for coping as well. It's so complicated. Talking doesn't always help. But winning a war with an out of control yard feels pretty good!

Thank you for serving and defending the values of freedom around the world. Many veterans here in the U.S. are struggling with the decision by our government to abandon Afghanistan and by the way it has been handled. Was our sacrifice of blood and lost lives worth the effort. So MH is very important topic in our veterans health and well being. Thank you for sharing your story and I'm happy you have found an outlet like yard cleanups to help you get through tough times

The fact you acknowledge it is a good sign. Australia is a very stoic culture and I think it's years behind other countries when it comes to treating mental health despite government's efforts to improve mental health services and have it taken more seriously in the last couple of decades. Man you were a life saver on this latest property. It was looking dire before the capeless hero(s) stepped in and saved the day. It now looks like a place you can enjoy. I'm glad you took the time to explain why your mower was having little impact on the lawn in a certain section. I was getting frustrated watching.

Hi Sean, I'm a US Army Veteran, two years because of a low lottery number during the Vietnam war. I did not see combat. After the Army I studied psychology in college but I discovered I was too selfish to be a Psychologist. I pursued a career in film. Depression and sadness can be overwhelming which I know from experience. Life can deal us pain that seems too much to overcome. My message is that hopes and goals keep us alive. Well-being and happiness is directly related to setting goals. We need something to look forward to. That's my bit for the day. Sean, as I said before I admire you so much for helping other people. You are an inspiration. You have more guts helping other people than I do and I admire you very much for it.

Be blessed, my friend- for you ARE a blessing.

You will inspire many others who are struggling, giving them the strength to seek help (mental health struggles are so exhausting- it’s hard to push yourself to ask for help), and accepting that it’s okay to have bad days. I think you’ve chosen wisely to engage in physical work, which is very good for the mind and body. Plus you always do a wonderful job! Nice to see Will back. Here’s a click wink for you. 😘

Sean, first let me thank you for your service! Even if it wasn’t in one of the Armed Services here in the USA, you still stood and faced what most run away from! I do take exception to something you said, “I’ve taken a step down from things I’m qualified to do “. I would argue that life has given you an opportunity to step UP, both in your personal satisfaction and in helping your community! You are increasing the quality of life for people in need, people who most look past and ignore. That, my dear Sir, is NOT a step down. Love and hugs from this Sovereign Citizen, from what is still a Constitutional Republic!

I like the rediscovery of the fence. Nice William will be arriving as well. Chipping was a good thought. Still amazing how instantly edging starts changing the appearance of an area. I am laughing with the reappearance of disappeared beds. The recovery of the overgrown grass, angling all over the place, is a actually a "Wow". Your persistence, cross mowing, mowing at different heights, etc. really pays off in results. Nice job you two!
