That's real, my DS in 94 did exactly that. Mail call was a chance to punish the trainees with pushups. You left you locker unsecured, and your stuff was on the other end of the barracks. And if you didnt get it, someone else would pick it, "claimed" and that was legal. By time I hit AIT, I have zero flags and those days were over. Extra laundry bag, extra boots, extra uniforms for inspection, I passed every time, because I spent a little more money to have display/inspection stuff and hid my daily stuff in a duffle bag.

96 to 14 was my time. went from the DS punching through the door window to enter the bay in basic to being on the range and witnessing folks getting "lightly touched" for flagging a safety NCO, the cadence of "two to the head and one to the chest" was what kept my ass alive a few times downrange. That's why I'm a blue card for life. My son is now downrange and he HATES the new "kinder, gentler" force. Hell one fo the reasons I retired was when a troop filed a complaint about my disciplining her lazy ass and I'm the one that received an NJP! OMG. Thank you Amuse for the giggle today!

@@555gleerocks: Umm, before you go calling someone a liar, you should first ask where that information came from, since there are plenty of news sites online. Plus you didn't even bother to even look to see or to check to find out, if what I was saying was or wasn't true. Then you you accused me of lying, when you failed to check out, where that report originated from. So you broke three standing rules of a U.S. Army soldier, in good order. But that probably isn't taught to you young new recruits and soldiers anymore. However, to get your bearings in order, I will even help you out. In reference to my comment on this KZbin channel and in particular, this video. Wherein I mentioned some changes between the old Army ways and the new Army ways. My statement was based upon a news article that I had seen and read, in the Huffington Post. To which, I was making light of, in a humorous way. The reporter for the article that was written, explained that she had interviewed members of seven U S. Army training centers, and then went on to say she confirmed the accuracy, before she had it printed, by the Pentagon, as a result of a Sleep Study that the U.S. Army had authorized, from 2010-2015. So there you have it. Truth sometimes hurts....but in the end... truth is honesty, with indisputable facts, to back it up.

Omg! I love you Drill Sergeant. Basic 1989 Ft. Bliss. July through September. Each platoon had two extra reserve DI's plus a drill cadet from West Point. Since the reserve and drill cadet had limited time with us they took full advantage of the "half right" and front lean rest position. We actually had to haul out our wall lockers and bunks into the company area once a week due to improper uniformity. This happened for three straight weeks. This was in El Paso. In August. Wouldn't trade the experience for anything though.

@Pundae
@Pundae 5 жыл бұрын
@@christophersilva2317 heavily depends on your battery. In mine we did like minimum graduation standards because of the heat, but others had to do shit like ruck anytime they went anywhere while we usually got transport outside of scheduled days. Like the guy above said, some people get phone calls and personal time, others don't You're going in the winter, so it's going to be fucking freezing most of the time. Once the sun goes down it is not fun, but that's why you get winter gear. Might make your ruck a bit heavier, but at least you'll probably get to use your tent. Some people aren't allowed too. If you aren't tho it's not a big deal, it's just sleeping on the ground either way We are called Chill Sill though, so at the very least you'll probably have it better off than dudes in places like Benning lol. Either way, just remember that every day comes to an end and all the shit you go through will just be a memory at some point. If you keep your head down and do what you're told you'll be fine. Even if you're perfect they'll still fuck you up, so don't worry about messing up. It's all a big mind game, just stay motivated and you'll get through. Drill sergeants look like massive assholes but they're there to help you finish training if it's something you can do, so just never quit and rely on your battle buddies. If you get a few guys you can chill with it makes it easier. And counting the days makes it slower. It's something I did in the second half but still. It's so much better to have a few days go by without realizing than to count every one. I used to just look forward to meals everyday. Like when we're doing some stupid shit I'd say "well it's only a little bit to dinner then I get to sleep". Days go slow but weeks go fast. It's a pain in the ass no matter what 'era' your drill sergeants are, but finishing will be the most satisfying thing in your life. The feeling we had when our drill sergeant first called us "soldiers" after we did our forge was insane. It's still the one thing that keeps me going when shit gets real.

So true going in the Army in 1992 and my oldest son going in 2020, when he called me on his cell phone, I asked him what the F was he doing. He informed me that they had 20 min to talk on their phone. WOW. He made the mistake of telling a DS that I was harder on him growing up then they were. Well that did not end well for him. But he could do push-ups and flutter kicks with the best of them.

I worked for AAFES for 4 years at the Air Force Academy. In each year I did the prep school issue and this is exactly what I seen. First year a little Filipino DI runs around yelling at everybody. Second year they are heavily scolded. Third year they are told in a loud voice what to do. Fourth year they are politely talked to and led around to where they need to be...in this year i found out they did not even have to sleep in their beds. They used sleeping bags so their beds would not get messed up.

I'm in the Air Force from BMT a few years ago and while it may not be like Full Metal Jacket, chow was definitely not THAT easy. I got smoked and was made to walk all the way around and sit back down just because I had about 1/8th of a cup of water left. (I had to go sit back down and drink it).

@ConrayKnox 5 жыл бұрын
What is very creative? I went thru in the 90's and if very creative mean taking everything out, tossing the wall locker and the bunk cause when they toss the locker it messed up the sheets so they tossed the bunk, then gave you 3 minutes to fix to everything, if you didnt get it done they smoked you and your battle buddy for 3 minutes. The process started all over again.

If Old School is the BDU era. I must be a dinosaur. Had those all OD Green fatigues, and, black boots back in the day. Lived in a WW-2 style wooden barracks while at Ft. Benning. Had C-rations in a can instead of MRE's. Still have the P-38 can opener. Got a military drivers record of vehicles I was authorized to drive. Everything I was allowed to drive is now in a museum. M-151a3 Jeep, M-792 Gamma Goat, and the funnest Army car ever made a M-274a5 Cargo Mule. Like driving a bumper car every day.
