In defense of her slip-ups, must say I've been in her position before (also as a vegetarian) where I've been really hungry and my only option is to pick the meat off of something I'm being offered. That would most likely explain the pepperoni pizza and food that Mary made!

I feel like if I stopped eating meat in my teens instead of my twenties I would have ended up doing the same at times. Abstaining from meat is comparatively a cake walk if you started at like 22-26 - not 13-16 lol. Just because of income and control over your food environments

as someone who used to be a vegetarian (this was for personal reasons because i didn't like the taste of meat and i had an ed), the cheeseburger was def just a pilot thing. As for the pizza, I have definitley eaten a pizza with picked off pepperoni in certain situations, and a lot of the time my family would cook meat and I would just eat vegetables (reffering to the beef thing)

a french vegan food "bistrot" would have been revolutionary at this time in france, that's some science fiction from the writers :') the pizza and beef, i feel like it could pass as being invted at others house and doing with what's available (so maybe just eating the pizza but not the meat or the sides and not the beef) the cheeseburger, i'll just assume was for his brother and let it slide

I think it was a very interesting video. I’m also a vegetarian. But I didn’t pay attention on what Aria was eating last time I watched the show. So it was interesting that she it was almost clear she should be a vegetarian most of the time. 🙂

came to the comments to see that most people agreed with my thoughts that she easily could've taken some pepperoni off the pizza. I think the cheeseburger thing was just a pilot mess-up because they aren't as concerned with minor details like that when trying to get a show picked up. the beef wellington one threw me off, and I'd have to watch the scene again to be sure, but my best guess is that Aria was just being polite by accepting the dish. thinking about Aria's character, she probably would've felt bad refusing a homemade meal like that as a guest and she would've just gone along with it and then just discreetly not eat the meat. the duck one cracks me up and again I'd have to watch the scene but I definitely think that was a case of her just playing along like, "yes Hanna I'll definitely order duck even though I'm a vegetarian". also if I'm remembering correctly, that's during the same scene when the girls are saying goodbye and saying how she and Ezra are going to start the adoption process after the honeymoon, so her emotions from the moment could've caused her to slip up. (sorry this was such a long comment yikes)

If Aria was getting the cheeseburger for her brother wouldn’t she have ordered takeaway or is he coming into the pub without an adult as well? I don’t think the pilot counts for character development though. Also I think packed lunches are less her being vegetarian, though it may be that, and more her mum is the only parent I can picture caring enough to make a packed lunch for her kids,

marlene king made a comment on aria ordering the cheeseburger. she said she was supposed to order a beer (you can see the beer sitting on the counter) but since she was supposed to be 16 then it wouldn’t make sense for her to get alcohol so they added her “can i get a cheeseburger?” dialogue later in postproduction

no because it makes sense for her to slip-up when she was a teen, I tried being a vegetarian at sixteen and because nobody in my family wanted to give up meat I ended up successfully being a vegetarian for only a year and then went back to eating the same as my family

I think Lucy Hale confirmed in an interview that Aria is vegetarian but Lucy forgot her line in the Pilot episode in the bar and could only think to order a cheeseburger. In the script she was supposed to order something else.

i know this was filmed years ago where it was more difficult to get veggie stuff, but when watching it back i did just assume meat-free pepperoni pizza etc. prob because i say things like sausage or burger etc meaning vegan versions because i think its obvious it would be vegan as i have been for 10 years now and its a bunch of effort to say vegan (not when ordering out ofc, just when in standard conversations)

Key lime pie would have gelatin wouldn't it? Although I don't know that I'd be super strict about gelatin bc I'm vegetarian for allergy/preference reasons and still eat gelatin bc I have to restrict so much from the allergies. But maybe that's just me. Anyways loved this. So light and fun.

With the pepperoni pizza I just tell myself that she was planning to pick the pepperoni off. I don’t eat meat from pigs. If I get given like a pizza with ham I usually pick it off and give it to my dad or to a friend who eats it. I’m not a Muslim, I just don’t have an interest in eating pigs. Most people will ask if I follow Islam or if I’m vegetarian everytime I say I don’t eat pig 😅
