This week started off with the inauguration of the Ram Mandir by the dear leader, and our usual suspects could not stop fawning over it. So, we decided to take a trip down memory lane.
While the primetime TV anchors were seen in a jubilant mood this week, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making the “Ram Mandir dream” come true, not all of them were always excited about the idea of building the temple. We took a look at their past statements.
Republic TV’s Arnab called the BJP’s campaign to build the Ram Mandir a broken record in 2015, while ANI editor Smita Prakash once said Uttar Pradesh needs more IITs and IIMs instead of a grand temple. More surprisingly, those like Sudhir Chaudhary and Gaurav Bhatia were also not very fascinated by the idea of building the Ram Mandir but only recently changed their views.

Great video as always, just to point out IIT Varanasi was founded in 1919 as Banaras Engineering college which became Institute of Technology BHU in 1968 and finally was “designated” IIT BHU in 2012. So no IITs were actually built in UP after 2010….just “name change”

Ranganathan still stands by that statement. He said so this month as well in Sham Sharma’s podcast. His point is that razing a masjid was illegal but fighting a legal battle in court is justified. They r not journalist. Arnab has a platform to get to the masses via television communication networks. Owning a local news channel at present requires an investment of minimum 25 crores. To be a national news channel it is 500 crore plus , to get correspondents across the country for relay of bytes to HQ. It is not easy to own channels at present. Politicians are expected to make u turn like nitish did , amit shah did. Even activists can do that , if given money. But jounalism is a very different occupation. Only those who have ethics and morality, can pursue it righteously. Selling your morality to make money is not to be found amongst journalists because they r supposed to be voice to people to hold the powerfuls government/elites/capitalists to account. They r supposed to represent people's interest and question the government for its policies and actions. So , there is profound difference between the two classes of people.

Don't be naive. How do you think media houses earn revenue? How do they pay for the big communication equipment, camera , onground journalists , reporters , crew members, staff , or buy licences for broadcasting rights.? They get revenue by advertising about products of different companies. How do companies select them for their ads? By looking at the BARC's rating on trp/viewership achieved by the different news broadcasting channels. Even the central and states government post their ads on these channels to promote themselves amongst viewers. The channel, which has major viewership, will get more revenue for posting ads on their channel. That is why you see ads. So, what you are getting served for free , it is so because you r the product in this neoliberal market model. So it is a cycle. You see what you want to see. And in return the news broadcasting channels serve you , what you like most. And it keeps you in the well of darkness/ignorance. Remember the story of frog of the well , who always thought that the well is the only world and nothing exists outside it. You r that frog.
