Prashant Kishor Bristles at Reminder of Earlier Wrong Predictions, says BJP Will Win 300+ seats

In an interview that ends on a most unfortunate but prolonged angry and hostile note, the well known election analyst Prashant Kishore has said BJP will comfortably win the elections and expects the party to get 300 seats like 2019 but perhaps a few more which he defined as possibly 5-15 more seats. On the other hand he categorically said the Congress Party cannot get even 100 seats.
Explaining his forecast, Mr Kishore said he did not expect BJP to suffer “material damage” in the states he referred to as the north and the west. Interestingly he repeatedly defined material damage as losing more than 50 seats. He added whatever number of seats BJP loses in the north and west it will more than make up in what he called the east and south. In response to a question he made clear that even if BJP loses 50 seats in the north and west it will make up for this with gains in the east and south.
Given how this interview ended, on an angry and ugly note, I don’t think I should further précis or paraphrase Mr Kishore but leave you to see and hear the interview for yourself. I certainly shall not paraphrase or relate the contents of the fight at the end, which seemed to last for five or seven or maybe more minutes. But I will add that not a second has been edited or deleted. It’s there in full for the audience to see and judge for themselves. Each of you has an undeniable right to make up your own mind. I told Mr Kishore it would not be cut or edited and we’ve kept our word.

In an interview lasting around 55 minutes, Karan repeatedly asked the same question, directly or indirectly, to get an answer that matched his analysis. I believe PK already provided the answer in the first half of the interview. There could have been a better set of questions addressing the issues of increasing and declining seats for the established party and the opposition party. The answer PK gave in the last few minutes was really good. He suggested that the opposition (people's collective effort )could become the new establishment for a better livelihood, development, and to promote a proud cultural identity as a collective vision for society. Alternatively, they might separate in terms of caste. Ultimately, what people demand for the long term is what the establishment has to address.

If anything PK has done for this country then it is to make electiond and parties approach towards elections professional and data driven. Congress for a long time has been politically lethargic. They functioned on ad hoc basis and had no professional or on-the-ground approach to the way they functioned. Cong was many small and big personal fiefdoms held together nationally partially due to its legacy and partially due to charisam of Nehru Gandhi they had on the voters. I say this even after being an ideological Cong voter and being me I will never vote for what BJP espcially what Modi stands for. PK and many other political consultants and analyst’s like him did was to make other parties even the regional ones take up fighting elections and politicking as a serious 24*7 job. If it wasnt for the situation created by likes of him do you think there would have been a Bharat Jodo Yatra where apart from RG you saw many old and middle aged Cong leaders who for a good part of their of the year political life moved around from rallies to rallies in their SUVs on the road walking? Today politics is far more competitive than it was once and that is good thing for democracy. The only missing part is a wise/clever voter. Voters today I believe are in ‘fair and lovely’ stage.ie just like a good part of post liberalisation consumer believed that ‘fair and lovely’ makes you fair for that was what was sold to them before they realised and Fair and lovely made the change same way voters are yet to see through and make wise voting choices. While there are many green offshoots of it but given our size as country we are yet to see that trend rise and mature.
