Love your videos but would like to pick you up on one point. I am from Yorkshire in England and I have always knit my sweaters in the round, changing flat pieced patterns to knit in the round.. Historically Yorkshire Ganseys were always knit in the round.

Why did Rowan knit it flat!!!!! Many of us in the UK much prefer knitting in the round. It’s so much easier and NO SEAMS TO SEW! Even if there’s is a motif on the front you can do it using Intarsia knitting. Loving the knits and Happy New Year 🧶🐻❄️

Hello! So excited about this video. Very helpful. Thank you. A bit off -topic, but I’d like to recommend a book to you both: The Place of Tides by James Rebanks. It’s non-fiction about a duck woman in Norway’s Outer Islands. She builds nests and works to protect eider ducks and collects their feathers for eiderdown quilts. Centuries-old work, full of tradition and heritage. Right up your alley. It’s a wonderful book. Rebanks never disappoints. Wishing you both a wonderful new year ahead!

I think traditionally many brits just didn’t know much about knitting in the round. My nan was an amazing knitter and colour work and Aran jumpers with complex cables were her go-to, but always knitted flat. Ironically she hated the sewing up part. I knit everything in the round it makes everything easier for me. I really want to knit your husky jumper. x❤

This is a beautiful sweater guys. It is something unique I haven`t seen elsewhere for a long time. 🙂 I grew up knitting everything in pieces and bottom up with straight needles. I learnt how to knit in 7th grade, back in 1978, in Germany. Allthough I switched to cable needles in the 80s, I still love to knit bottom up and in pieces. Maybe it is because I am so familiar with it and maybe it is because I also became a certified seemstress in the early 80s, lol. 🙂I love the way it feels to sculpt something from different pieces. I do not love to cut into knitted, handknitted pieces at all. (steaking) It makes no sense to me. Maybe it is different, when knitting something for a baby. I can see, why one wants to knit a garment in the round and seemless, when it comes to the little ones. To end this comment on a positive note: The polar bear jumper is gorgeous and so are the ones you are wearing. Love from Germany and a very happy New Year 2025. 🙂

Hi Arne and Carlos! I am 2/3rds the way through the polar bear sweater for my grand daughter and I have knitted it in the round. I haven't knitted a design in flat pieces in YEARS; they are all adaptable to KIR easily enough. I just read the pattern carefully and check whether it specifies an extra stitch or slip stitch at the edge and allow for that when doubling numbers. The polar bear went really easily and the motifs balanced as well. We're catching on to KIR in the UK now but I wish Rowan had published both versions to make it easier for us 'in the round' knitters. I'm hoping to join you on a cruise this year (finally!!!) and my husband and I (he also knits) are very excited at the prospect. I know the tour includes a visit to a yarn factory but I hope we will also get the opportunity to see and buy some classic Norwegian textiles along the way.

Yes I’m interested in that too. I’m a typical English knitter who prefers straight needles and there are so many lovely new patterns done top down which don’t suit my style of knitting. That’s why I do like Rowan because there are more flat worked seamed jumpers.

Hello, I’m learning color work knitting and I can’t seem to knit as smoothly as you do. I try not to knit tight but it ends up loose and some areas tight. It’s so frustrating. I’m a very right handed person and I can’t seem to make my left hand work. Any suggestions?
@littlestbroccoli15 күн бұрын
Hi, you can try and knit a plain piece in left handed knitting only, to practice the tension on your left hand, and if it's too loose, try wrapping the yarn on your left fingers more times than the right, to increase the tension. Also, when you're blocking the sweater, if you have areas of tighter and looser stitches, you can use this time to even them out and push-pull them into place a bit. Blocking always helps in those situations. Good luck, two handed knitting can be so satisfying once the kinks are worked out, and you can definitely do it!
@KimMoss-f4r15 күн бұрын

I would not agree that british love knitting sweaters in pieces. Since Ravelry became popular, British prefer to knit in round and preferably top down. I don't know why Rowan still makes patterns for knitting in pieces, probably they've got a template and don't want to change it to a new way. I do buy rowan magazines sometimes but never knit anything from there exactly because it's in pieces. Maybe you can teach them 😉 I love your Polar Bear sweater, but I am too scared of colourwork 😂
