Hey Arne and Carlos, I just wanted to write a quick note to let you know that one of your biggest fans and pattern purchasers(my mom) passed away on June 9th. She watched all of your videos and on occasion we watched some of your videos together, during her last days in hospice we rewatched your Dolly Parton cake making video. I just wanted to thank you for being yourselves and providing her comfort through your videos, She loved you guys a lot. Thanks again, Terri

Fun! One moment that had me giggling (okay, there were a few giggle-worthy moments). Carlos didn’t want the broken chocolate bar, and Arne tossing that same chocolate bar into the bag, and later needing to pack down the groceries in the bag to make more room. So, inquiring minds want to know … did Carlos’ chocolate bar make it home in one piece? lol Thanks for the fun episode. Stay well everyone!

Isn't it a bit propaganda-like, how we are told plastic shopping bags are bad for the environment but almost everything that comes packaged in a store is in plastic? I mean, yes! Plastic really is bad for the environment, but if we were worried, wouldn't we demand corporations find an alternative to all their plastic packaging?

I wish that some of them would change their packaging. The plastic net bags that oranges come in look like something that would be pretty dangerous for fish, if they get in the water. I've been keeping the net part of the bags to to use inside something, like a blanket but it would be easier if they would just change their packaging.

I reused every plastic bag that came into my house because they were free. Now, in my part of Canada (BC) we don't get any of those plastic shopping bags anymore because they are illegal, so I have to buy kitchen catchers. I used to just have to buy the big garbage bags. If everyone else had been reusing those bags too then maybe they would have noticed that actually they do break down over time. This whole thing about plastic shopping bags not breaking down is a myth. I used some to store things in and I kept having to replace them because they were breaking down.

I didn't realise you were so into your pizzas , and my goodness so much milk , the variety is amazing . I love finding out what different countries eat . It's so lovely that you are never cross with each other , you are so gentle towards one another . The alcohol section is very interesting, and how it works , I think it's good to close it down at certain times . The flower shop being next door is so lovely and a great treat for each other , your plants are beautiful to . That's actually nice that you can donate the money from turning in your recyclable bottles. In Michigan you pay extra and then can return them in similar fashion but I don't think they have a donation system. Alcohol is in a separate section of some of the stores so a metal gate just gets closed and locked to block it off during non-sale hours. We have "some" things in tubes like yogurt for one. We also have self checkout at a lot of grocery stores.

I had to smile when I saw the Vestlands lefse. Good memories from when I was little and many of the stores in small towns carried Scandinavian foods. Rekke ost, in the tube, was a favorite when I visited Norway. Tubes of the cheese were brought back with me and I was always stopped when going through customs. 😀 We can't get that cheese here, unfortunately. Gjetost is a must and still eat that on bread with a cup of tea or coffee. Thanks for sharing the visit to your grocery store and the good memories. Ha det... 🙃🙃

Takk for showing this! I imagine from Arne’s grinning nods to people out of frame that the locals (lokals?) are amused by your global community anxious to experience your mountain community with you. It’s just a grocery store to them but the second I saw that you were going grocery shopping in rural-ish Norway I was DOWN! Lol I want to shop with Arne and learn about the stuff, how it’s different south from up north where he’s from, and teach some more English because he’s so good and is so comfortable. When I’ve traveled it’s been the mundane local stuff-just how local people meet the same needs I meet back home in Oklahoma, just configured a little differently-that I love the most. The pride of requesting a product from a display case and the merchant understanding my language attempt is thrilling when “free ranging” away from the multilingual tourist areas. And it’s so fun to see the cultural context of the packaging of many products.

It was so fun to shop with you guys! Arne, my dad used to break up regular white bread and put it in a glass of what we call Buttermilk here and he ate it with a spoon. Our buttermilk has a sour taste, so is likely very similar or the same as yours in Norway. I remember it might have been an acquired taste, but really quite yummy. 😋 I have one brother who still carries on that tradition. 😌 I got my very first reusable grocery bag in Norway - that was in about 2007 or 2008. It's my absolutely favourite fabric bag (strong, quality fabric that's also very soft). I now use it to carry precious knitting projects in when I take something out to work on. It also holds my yarn beside me on the couch while I knit on something at home.🥰

In Australia no liquor stores are owned by the government, they are either owned independently or by a private company/ supermarket

Thanks gentlemen! It made me so homesick…. I’m very curious to see about the Lefse, as I always make my own every year at the holidays….. we Americans probably don’t eat it the same way, but it’s so tasty! I’m laughing about the pizza, as it seems to be favored the world over. Oh I LOVE my tube delicacies! Sadly I have to find an IKEA or order them from Amazon to find the ones I like. I’m right with Carlos on then caviar….. the BEST way to eat it! Love my Gjetoast….. I’ve eaten it my entire life due to. “Cow” allergy! What no cloudberries?

I love shopping in foreign supermarkets, however must say I was very surprised at the amount of plastic packaged fruit in Norway! Quite an eye-opener!

My mom had (and I now have) a recipe for chicken liver pate. She used to make it every fall for US Thanksgiving. It is delicious and now I make it for my family too...yummy!!!!!!
