Let's spit out some facts, Journey cracked the top 20 of Billboard's AC chart with Where Did I Lose Your Love and After All These Years, both off Revelation, with Arnel on vocals. So yes, they have had hits within the last 20 years. Who can name any other band from their era that has accomplished the same? To date, Journey is selling out stadiums including the 72,000 seater NRG stadium in Houston on the Freedom tour. Yes, they're as big if not bigger than they ever were.

I saw one of Arnel's solo concert and he sang his ass out for 2 straight hours. He did Queen, AC/DC, Van Halen, Sting just to name a few. He was jumping, running around like an energizer bunny. He's a great performer. Worth every penny.

One thing everyone needs to remember is that when a musician's guitar wears out, they get a new guitar. When the drums wear out, they get a new drum set. When the piano wears out, they get a new piano. But what happens when their voice wears out? They're washed out, that's what. Steve Perry's voice is shot. No way he's ever coming back to Journey. Arnel is getting up there himself, being in his 50's and having been with the band for around 10 years. Journey has an expiration date, and Neal Schon is just trying to make it last a little bit longer with better refrigeration, but the end is near. As for me, I'm enjoying Arnel's singing while it lasts. It does sound pretty good (at the moment).

Journey's catalogs in concert is hard to manage for a 50 year old singer. Arnel is 54 and Perry is 73. Anyway, Arnel can still get it done somehow but Perry can do a couple of songs maybe at his age.

Very few can maintain the tenor, even 2nd soprano that Perry was. Thank God for great studio recordings, there will never be another. He chose to get out of the game, on top...respect him for that. Thanks for all the info about the drama of the Journey members haha-- forget it, SP will NEVER be back !!! And even if he comes back, he may not sound the same SP voice anymore- and SP knows that! SP eft 3 DECADES already and wants to play SOLO- he just wants to do what is right for him! In many of SP Interviews ( 2018, see YT ) ( SP normally doesn't want interviews--BUT he got lots of them year 2018- back to back as he was promoting his SOLO album and claimed that he left because he got burnt out, got a hip problem, etc. Wishing him well for his solo albums Traces.( on the studio, NO Concert yet announced ) I was an SP fan. but I'm an AP fan now after seeing many of Journey's LIVE incredible Concerts with AP! ! I am thankful for AP for reviving the legacy of the once sleepy band back to life again !!! As you may notice that Journeys LIVE Concerts were done all over the world now in places Journey was never been before! ! Can't wait to see Journey on LIVE Tour Concert again soon in Florida, 2022 !! Arena shows as long as they have other headliners helping sell tickets, but he didn't bring them back to stadium sized concerts .Those venues are too big for Journey with Arnel. If Journey plays on their own, they don't play arenas, they play smaller venues. Heck, Journey didn't even headline the East West Classic shows. And with Arnel they have no major hits, and they can't sell albums or even get radio play. Sorry, but Journey peaked with Steve Perry and all they are now, is a Journey, the Tribute Band starring a nightclub/karaoke singer.

I can tell that he is not an exact replica of Steve even with my eyes closed but he does study him closely and seeks to imitate him. That is kind of...amazing. ❤ 5 years after Traces, we still wish Steve Perry were back with Journey. Steve, Neil, Greg and Jonathan made magic together. No one could do any better. I have no problem with Arnel but.... Classic Journey fans don't seem to take into account the age factor in all of this. Steve Perry was great, but he's all history now. Pineda came and gave the band a 20 YEAR RESET in vocal energy and stage intensity, which was perfect timing for all the Soprano/Glee/etc. fans who just discovered the band and wanted the full experience of them, which i highly doubt they would have gotten if Perry were still on board as he would have completed the toned-down, old-man version of Journey. Pineda was able to drag the past excitement of Journey into the present.

I just listened to Steve Perry’s NO ERASIN, FROM ALBUM TRACES. THE MAN IS 69! And he can still hit the high notes....yes, he’s older, but his voice still sounds great, wonderful...I lived on Journey, but Neal didn’t even want Steve in beginning and at the end, wasn’t patient enough for Steve to deal with his losses, his need of surgery. Neal is a LEGEND IN HIS OWN MIND. HAVE NEVER HEARD HIM BE HUMBLE OR THANKFUL FOR THE SUCCESSES HE HAD WITH JOURNEY, NEVER! I have heard Arnel in videos and he sounded good but my wife and I went to the Def Leppard/Journey concert on June 2nd 2018 in Pittsburgh PA. and I'm sorry to say I was very disappointed in Journey's show. The instrumental part sounded great as always but a few too many solos. Arnel sounded good if and when he focused on the songs but when he got to running around and throwing the mic in the air it was as if he lost track of the words to the songs. I seen several people get up and leave complaining about this very thing. There is also what seemed to be a good bit of tension between a few of the members of the band which I think could have been a contributor to the overall show. Yes I like to hear Steve Perry with the band but was eagerly waiting to see and hear a great show of a band I have wanted to see for years and really felt a little bit let down by the preformance. Work it out fellas you can do it as a group but you truly need to get a grip on whatever was wrong with you that night.

First of all, I love Steve Perry. Grew up as a fan, all of it. But have you HEARD Steve Perry lately?? I mean live - there's clips on here someplace. *To be clear - they guy can still sing better than any of us normal humans, let's get that straight. The 'Voice of Steel' remains unmistakable even in much lower keys and naturally sounding a LOT older* But come on - NO WAY can he do his OWN *Journey* alto tenor catalog justice any more. Especially on tour, for weeks at a stretch. On the other hand... Maybe fans _would_ be happy with a heavily modulated and rearranged set he CAN manage - that's entirely possible. It would be SP himself after all, even if a shadow of the mutant he once was.

They did a concert in my area last night & apparently didn't do very well with ticket sales because they had the local news announce at 6:00 PM that there were still plenty of tickets available for the show which started at 8:00 PM. I can remember Eagles tickets selling out in 5 minutes...Sooo....Just sayin'.....

Journey has been touring for how long now? Unless Journey do a joint tour with Styx, Def Leppard, Heart & Kansas to fill an arena, they can't sell out an arena by themselves because they been playing the same city every year. The band should take a break for a year or two, work on new material and see if they still have an audience, if not then they should call it a day & collect royalties from their record sales and publishing.

True, Dave's voice isn't as good as 40 years ago, but then again, Dave has NEVER been known as the singer in Van Halen, but yet the frontman, the cheerleader, the creative lyric genius. He can get away with a lot because he's more of just an entertainer and just his presence in the band means they are playing the classic songs. More of nostalgia. Perry on the other hand is all about the voice, He has to be able to hit the notes. If Dave's off, we go well thats just Dave. I mean watch the US festival from 83, he didn't even sing half the words. But Steve is known for his vocal greatness and I just don't think he has it anymore. I don't think he wants to let people down.

funny - callin' Arnel "The New Guy". lol he'd been active Singer ..hmm... I guess longer than Steve ever was.. but.... Arnel is not only a Replacement.... for that they could've taken any talented Tenor Voice from the Street then (like Steve Augeri, Jeff Scott Soto) and creating a complete new Journey-Sound... NOOOO what they actually did was a Recharactering of Steve's outstanding Voice... bad for Arnel is that he is totally sucked out by the band now and wasting his vocal talent if he stays. It makes me somehow sad to see how Arnel gets worn out. I think Journey is way above their zenith, but the boys have not heard the shot yet. 1. Arnel is not getting any younger, he is fifty effin' one! 2. His voice is evidently tired and abused. More than 10 years of almost non stop touring. 3. Journey's songs are not exactly the easiest songs to sing, without proper precautions on his vocal cords it will most likely wear and tear. 😭😭😭 We have seen the pattern among former Journey frontmen in the past, they eventualyy lose their voice after several years. I just hope that the other band members wouldn't take him or his voice for granted to the point of no return 😭😭😭😭 But Arnel already has proven himself to everyone and filled a very big shoes for the past 11 years, we love him regardless.

SP is 73 years old by Jan. 22, 2022, / AP turned 54 on Sept 2021..but AP looks 20 years younger. They are both good singers..but SP already gave his share of talents and wants to play solo. AP is continuing the legacy of Journey .

Perry not wanting to ever go back to Journey has nothing to do with his voice. Of course his voice isn't like it was then he's 73! He can still sing and still has a great voice, just different. Him not wanting to go back is about the backstabbing and hurt Schon has caused, Cain too. Would you go back after being kicked when you're down and then kicked some more through the years? Of course Schon would take Perry back in a heartbeat, imagine how much money they'd make? That's what it's about for Schon and his pay-per-view wife, money. Perry has a bit more integrity.

Steve Perry is my favorite vocalist of all time and Journey is honestly a cover band to me at this point. I hope Steve does not ever go backwards because it is about his happiness and Journey will never be able to offer him that.

You're forgetting that Neil Shon wrote many of the songs with Steve Perry and later on, Jonathan Cain who probably wrote the biggest hits. Steve Perry help the band with his amazing voice. Steve Perry didn't write all the songs by himself( except "walks like a lady") for the Infinity album and Faithfully was written by Jonathan Cain including the words and music. Wheel in the Sky was credited to Neil Shon, Ross Valory's wife Diane and Rober Fleischman. Without a co-writer​, Steve Perry can't write a complete song. Oh Sherrie was written by Steve Perry, Barry Goodrum, Craig Krampf and Bil Cuomo for example. People always forget that many songs are written by many writers who bring in the chorus, verse, bridge and chord​ progressions.

It is a matter of proper training which many including Adele do not have. that is why she got surgery and still has nodules because of her bad training.

Perry is long since retired and does not perform. He has also suffered from depression but has given up the idea on a big career anymore or a lot of live shows. You might see him make a new CD and do one small tour in the US before riding off in the sunset for good.
