Actually, he didn’t formally leave till between 1997-1998, as they had re-united and recorded Trial by Fire. They release it in the fall of 1996 & Steve went to Hawaii to get in shape for the tour. Since he runs around/dance in stage when touring, he tried hiking to get in shape. It was at the top of a hike that his Hip began the excruciating pain. When he could handle the pain enough to fly back, he saw Drs. who diagnosed a Degenerative Bone Disease. They recommended total Hip Replacement & Steve wanted to search for alternative less evasive remedies. After 18mo., Jonathan Cain called him to tell him they were interviewing replacement lead singers. Steve asked that they not use the name Journey then, like when he left the first time and Jonathan, Neil & 1 other I think, joined Bad English. Jonathan and Neil had also, made their own Solo albums after Steve left the first time. Steve went to his Attorneys after that phone call. A Degenerative Bone Disease is not curable. Even Hip Replacement would not cure it….other joints/bones would continue to degenerate. He says he lives on Anti-Inflamatories. I too have multiple Bone conditions/Auto-Immune Diseases that cause Cronic Pain. Steve would have had real problems touring. Steve performed more concerts in 10yrs with Journey, than even Arnel has in his 15 yrs to date. (So, he did more concerts than any other singer of Journey).

Steve Perry is a legend and icon. Arnel Pineda who idolized Steve Perry was heaven sent to the Journey band since the latter's signature music is of Steve Perry. The fans since the 70s and even today have long to hear Steve Perry's kind of music that only Arnel Pineda can replicate. Indeed, with Arnel Pineda as the lead singer, Journey has become an immortal band. Bands vocalist had their time--and SP became the legendary one--no doubt about that --but nothing is permanent! Every member is replaceable if they leave Journey--EXCEPT N Schon! As everybody knows, it was SAugeri who replaced SP--- Then comes Soto when Augeri left ! Then AP was recruited by N Schon -----in 2007 ( therefore AP is the frontman for Journey from 2007--to -2022 and Counting ! ) Thie year 2022 is AP's 15th year as Journey's frontman! Unfortunately most of these corporate mega bands have reached a level of efficiency where they might as well be grinding out sausages. That’s my beef with the state of the modern concert industry. It makes it difficult to justify spending money on extreme ticket prices when many of these bands can’t stand each other! You can tell the only reason their even there is a mega 💰payday! At least the Eagles have learned to fake having fun on stage. Henley made sure to choreograph it into the show... 🤣🤣🤣

It seems like most Journey fans only consider the Steve Perry-years as "real Journey". Despite the fact they released three albums before he was in the band and they released several albums after his time in the band. The last Steve Perry album "Trial by Fire" put the tone for the rest of albums to come. If you like that album you definitely should try the later albums.

NOBODY, not even Freddie, had a voice like his, and still nobody can sing like the early 80s Steve Perry. Seeing him sing Open Arms LIVE was like a religious experience.

They all said they got there because of the fans and all we wanted in return is to hear Steve sing with them one last time at the induction! He was right there! Come on! He could have chose an easy to sing song if he needed to! Again, Arnel would in no way felt disrespected! Steve was co-creator of why they were there in the first place! So, give the fans what they want! Just one song would have been fine with me!!

Steve Perry and Bruce Dickinson acted like a gentlemen to the other singers in their ex-bands. And Ian Gillan, Paul Rodgers and Rob Halford have shown themselves to be arrogant and hypocritical pieces of shit in their attitude towards the other vocalists legacy who sang in Deep Purple, Bad Company and Judas Priest. In the human sense, the last three turned out to be very rotten personalities.

This whole matter seems to not make sense. Steve Perry said he didn't sing because of Arnel. There are examples of past members of bands even as recent as Bun E.Carlos of Cheap Trick, Danny Seraphine of Chicago and others who for that day come and play a song or two with their old friends for Hall of Fame honor sake. I don't think anyone in Journey would have minded Steve Perry singing a song including Arnel. Steve just doesn't make sense. By the way, Greg Rolle, both a former singer and keyboard player of Journey, played on stage with Journey at the Hall of Fame ceremonies with Arnel and current keyboardist Jon Cain and it went well.

Steve didn't want to cause a rift because as long as Journey still doing concerts, it still helps sell more albums, which helps Steve's back pocket. BFD. I think Arnel's a half assed cover band singer that emulates other singers. That's about it..

Steve Perry was not just a singer. He is a musician, arranger and as a voice of the band lyricist. I'm surprised by the lyric credits on many Journey songs and hits. And to be fair I dont know thing 1 about Arvin. But I will say he needs voice lessons, so he can learn how not to strain his voice. And control intonation. If he goes off key, and he does alot. I believe it is because he is straining and forcing his voice instead of singing from his diaphram.

Arvin the chipmunks.. Yeah sounded screechy really right😂. Arnel is my countryman and he isn't equal to how Steve sounded but he's got his own style and unique too. They both are fantastic!
