Thank goodness that Tan's father survived to come home and eventually tell his story to his son to share with us. Whatever one may say about Market Garden, one can never say that the British soldier failed for want of courage. To me, those that died there are in the same league as the 300 Spartan's at Thermopylae. It is a battle that shall be remembered for as long as well.

I have to sub categorise sorry, but in terms of personal accounts, this, in my opinion, hits top spot. Tan is rightly so proud of his father's experience but remains so humble in his promotion of it. As I said, Tan's father would be so proud of his son, and I can not explain this presentation in any other way.

When I was in the US Army in 1970 our Staff Sergeant Major was one of the last WW2 glider pilots still on active duty. Waco pilot in Normandy. I salute them all.

Very inspirational tale of fortitude and adventure by the father of Tan Hughes. A hush came over the sidebar comments when it got to the bit when he received multiple wounds but carried on. Along the way he witnessed death and destruction all around him. This is a definite collectors item and i'm ordering the book too. This channel needs support, for the price of a few coffess per month we can continue to benefit from the best ww2 channel in the english speaking world. Join us you'll be welcomed with open arms.

A brilliant presentation by Tan. I'll be re-watching it today. Stories like this area so valuable to us. At the end of the day, it's the soldiers themselves that are the DNA of the regiment.

Just north of Wolfheze, close to Arnhem, you can find a glider landmark with the memorial for the glider pilots. You can walk down the pebbles road and find the glider museum. Usually open once a month but this week every day.

Late again, my fault again. Excellent presentation as usual. A perspective only you present. Seems so easy the way you do it, like sitting on the patio with somebody we know who has a tale to share, well done!

Excellent show with a perspective and approach that is inexorably moving out of reach with respect to our WW2 veterans' memories -- a father's own words and his son as the guide. Thank you both.

I must beg pardon for unintentionally omitting to mention the equally brave Polish, American and Dutch civilians who also contributed to Market Garden as well. Tan so humbly made mention of them in his presentation as I'm sure would have made his Dad proud, being he was a humble man himself. My apologies for such an oversight.

The 101st had nothing like the heavy weapons the 1st had - Polstens, MGs, 6pdrs etc. No disrespect to the Screaming Eagles, but they would have struggled in Arnhem

@@WW2TVI think any airborne unit would not have the variety of materiel the gliders could land. Absolute stone cold bravery.
