When it comes to the way that HBO screwed "Boardwalk Empire" over by giving it a truncated fifth season to resolve what should have been three seasons' worth of material, no character was more squandered than Arnold Rothstein. They were just setting up the dominoes in Season 4 that would, in turn, result in his downfall and eventual murder in what would've been Season 5. I imagine an alternate universe where we got Rothstein on the skids, lost in his compulsions, and his murder actually turns out to be a mercy killing orchestrated by Lansky in order to spare AR further indignities. In real life, Rothstein on his deathbed refused to give his murderers' names to the police. That would've made sense if, in story, he realized that Lansky was doing him a favour by killing him before he could be brought any lower. Stuhlbarg was sensational as Rothstein and it's criminal that we didn't get the final act of his story.

What should of happened was Masseria taking him out. that was a big theory
@stephendavis62672 ай бұрын
@@ceerious I like that Masseria had something to do with it. Maybe Joe the Boss advised Lucky and Meyer that if he was going to trust them, they had to do the deed themselves. AR's out of moves, he's done, and his proteges have to make the right call for their own games.
@mysticjcАй бұрын
Yes to all of this, that's how I pictured it. They were building this since 3x12, that scene with Lanksy talking with murder in his eyes and AR in the back? That was going to lead to this. Lucky getting rid of Masseria and Meyer getting rid of AR.

Lucky and Myers are learning everything from this one man, how to dress, talk and how to make money. This is accurate, when Lucky told on 2 men, it was over for Lucky but this man showed him how to fix that mistake and when Lucky sets up the new American Mafia. He does live by the rules he made and he will never snitch on nobody else again

Arnold & Nucky & Chalky & Manny were the only bosses in the entire show that weren't a straight up 🐍 !!!!! I would say Torrio too but then he ruined it at the very end by snaking Al (his own protege) & then later snaking Nucky in the back for no reason especially after he was already retired & I know he tried to tell Nuck to retire several times to look out for him but Torrio himself was already retired & out of the game , he didn't even have to help Lansky & Charlie if he didn't want to so he's a snake too !!!!!

Arnold was always getting screwed out of a liquor delivery. Nucky and Jimmy both did shotty business when it came to delivering liquor to paying customers.

Jesus Christ I just made a retwatch of the show and I'm having all the feelings again. How I miss it, how I regret the scenes we didn't get to see... In case you're having the blues too: there's a movie that came out last year, directed and written by Jack Houston (Richard Harrow), that's starring Steve Buscemi (Nucky Thompson), Michael Pitt (Jimmy Darmody), Anatol Yusef (Meyer Lansky) and other great actors like Ron Perlman and Joe Pesci. Can't find the movie but I sure want to watch it. Also, for more BE cast togheter: check out the series Tulsa King, written by Terence Winter (the writer of BE): there's Vincent Piazza (Lucky Luciano), Chris Caldovino (Tonino), Domenick Lombardozzi (Ralph Capone), Joseph Riccobene (Frankie Yale). I'm planning to watch it soon. Also, infos from IMDB: it seems Vincent Piazza and Terence Winter are writing together a series called Midge that "focuses on Thomas Midgley Jr.'s creation of leaded gasoline and Freon in the 20th century's first half." This sounds so good, let's just hope it gets somewhere!

One of the BEST "lines" ever delivered in any TV-series comes from "Eddie"! Quote: "NOOOKY!... NOOOOOKY!...VOOT AVE YOU DOING DER???" "We're F***ING Eddie! Leave us alone!" "Sovvy! I heard you screaming! I thought you in tvouble! ... (after a while - again!) : "...NOOKY! NOOOOOKYYYY!!..." (angrily!) ..."WHAAAAAAT????"... "Theve is a VOMAN HERE! She says she's PVEGNANT!" (panicky!) ..."WHAAAAAAAAT???" "YAAAAA! ...YOU MET HER YESTERDAY!" ...WTF??? XD XD ...
