Great comparison. Zane looked great and had nice abs, tris, and conditioning, but he didn't have knockout body parts the way Arnold did with the chest, biceps, and calves. An amazing era where they all looked like Greek gods in their own right.

@patrickblackwell777 lol, this is bodybuilding, not men's physique, if you want absolutely shredded conditioning, look for David Laid or Jeff Seid, even better than Zane and they're nearly as muscular. Being shredded doesn't win you olympias on its own, you need significant SIZE!

After seeing Arnold win the 1970 Mr World on Wide World Of Sports I began bodybuilding at 12 years old. However seeing Zane guest pose in Pittsburgh 1980 to Pink Floyd " One Of These Days" took me to another level. I went on to win many titles and best posing awards thanks to Frank! Great comparison! Frank Zane was such a class act!

Arnold was unbeatable, he just had too many genetic gifts and too much charisma and stage presence. I don’t think his 1980 victory was even controversial. @@eric-ms3pz idk man, I’m a fan of Mentzer, especially his philosophy, but I just didn’t find his physique appealing or aesthetic whatsoever. I think it just comes back to the genetic gifts Arnold possessed. I don’t think any amount of training could make up for the natural gifts that Arnold had.

Just my opinion here on Arnold winning the 80 O...Honestly...I don't think (after watching your other comparisons) that anyone on that stage blew him out of the water. He may not have been better but was AS GOOD AS the rest of the guys that day. That's why he won in my opinion. Not politics. To dethrone a champion you must out right beat him.

Zane has no chance, no one beats Arnold's 74 version until atleast Flex Wheeler, kevin levrone or Dorian hit the scene in 93 or Charles clairmonte's version in 94-95, I could see an argument for maybe kevin levrone or Dorian from 92 but not really. Arnold's 75 version probably was surpassed by 92 kevin levrone or 92 Dorian and 92 to 93 Charles clairmonte and possibly as far back as some of Lee Haney's best years but most certainly not earlier. Not even Gary strydom could take out a 75 Arnold and Gary strydom was certainly above Zane.

Just like Danny Padilla, Frank didn't want to wear a costume in the bedroom for the Weiders, hence no photos or any real video time during Pumping Iron. It took another two years for them to crack Frank, but eventually he too succumbed to the powers that be, and got his rightful Olympia wins in exchange.
