I wonder if Haney would haven turned into a legit Coleman competitor if he kept along, he retired extremely young, even before hitting his prime by modern standards. I'd love to see a competition of Haney vs Dorian past 1992 up to Ronnie 1999 with the stuff that was available. Add a non-torn Dorian into the mix for the ultimate matchup. I think Haney's genetics are extremely underrated due to his era. If Haney took the same stuff as Dorian and Ronnie and stayed along, he could have been extremely dangerous to become a 10x Mr.O.

They would completely annihilate Derek and Hadi and make them fight for 4-5tth place

It’s interesting how bodybuilding diet evolved from low carb high fat high protein in the seventies, to relatively high carb moderate to high protein and low fat in the eighties. Haney was eating all kinds of carbs - check out his book. He also did a lot of cardio pre-contest (another addition to the eighties methods). Perhaps the drugs were the same from Arnold to Haney era, but the nutrition evolution yielded better physiques?

I am judging purely on the appearance of the physique. Modern guys have these, hard, veiny, hyper androgenic looks. Their muscles are oversized and disproportionate, they look like mutants and I do think the cause is much higher androgenic compound use.

Are you kidding me? Lee Haney looks much, much more aesthetic and well balanced than Arnold. That is his biggest win againsta Arnold. He has the classic bodybuilder look with really wide shoulders (wider clavicles than Arnold), really wide lats and that fantastic V-Taper plus the outer sweep of the legs making the whole package a V-taper. In addition to that he has not only more defined abdominals but they look simply much more aesthetical as does all of his midsection compared to Arnold. On Aesthetics, Lee simply blow Arnold away totally. It's almost as if you would have taken Frank Zane (Which was one of the few who did beat Arnold) and put Arnold's amount of muscle on that gifted Zane-like frame. Where Arnold do beat Haney is in a few areas where he has more muscle slapped onto him than Haney, namely biceps (Arnolds triceps are lagging enormously to his biceps and just look plain weak. There is a reason why he avoided triceps poses), chest (primarily upper chest) and perhaps lower traps. Besides aesthetics Lee also beats Arnold hands down in every other muscle department beside these three areas!

Arnold had a very strong stage presence and he knew how to present himself to highlight his strong points and hide the bad points (Which there were plenty of even at the time). In the late 80:s and early 90:s the judges would see through that. He would never have dominated as he did in the 70:s (his 80 win was just bad judgement). In addition to that, they didn't care as much about muscle balance back in the day. Sergio Olivia had the opposite problem of Arnold with very dominant triceps and Brachialis but less biceps and especially no peak in the biceps.

Golden era bodybuilders didnt train or use drugs for maximum freakiness. They even avoided overdeveloping muscle groups like quads and shoulders to achieve the right proportions. It was a different sport back then.
