Greg, as someone involved heavily in the sport, how realistic or feasible would it be to get a natural category in the Arnold? I imagine it being incredibly satisfying and fulfilling for athletes to get into a show like that, natural. As someone who is a lifetime natty with no intention of any substance use, that is what would inspire and motivate me the most. It would simply be relatable in the real world.

In the 1950s, Jack Lalane looked like a top natural bodybuilder. Maybe not by today's standards, but unusual for back then. He lived to age 96, was mostly vegan, ate egg whites, fish, and had a daily lifting, exercising, and swimming routine. He slept 7-8 hours a day, and still looked pretty good when he was 95 (except for the jump suits). So he was doing cardio all the time while lifting and maintaining a decent physique. Sounds good to me. Add in some legal products and the latest exercise and nutrition science and it sounds like the way to go. Stand next to the average American and you'll look like Chris Bumstead. It's all relative. After you win, the only thing left to do is lose. Living a long healthy life is another more lasting way of winning.

"Here lies the problem" people all the time say that genetics play a huge part. Greg often says that just cos you follow his cycle doesn't mean you will look like him. If you copy Ronnie's cycle then you won't look like Ronnie. But there is an issue here that Greg can't seem to accept that there is a chance that someone could use less gear than him but look better. It's a bit contradictory.
@onewarriornation602
@onewarriornation602 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, there are several factors at play with this sort of thing that seem to be missed. One huge one is how each person's body metabolizes Steroids. Myself for example, I started on TRT at 200MG per week with an Endocrinologist. At the six months mark they checked my blood work and my levels ore TRT were at 400, after 6 months on TRT the Endo tested my levels at they were at 2900ng/dl. He ran a second test to make sure and the second test came back at 3000ng/dl. The Endocrinologist, an expert in Hormones said my body was hyper responsive to Testosterone and that the average TRT user would be at 900-1100ng/dl on 200MG, that my levels were at the level of someone on a large Steroid cycle and dropped me to 100MG, which still has my levels at 1400-1600ng/dl. The specialist wasn't wrong, I seen Mark Plummer post his blood work on his KZbin on over two grams of Steroids per week and his Test levels were between 2900-3000. It is highly possible that genetic freaks like Arnold and others were hyper responders to Anabolic Steroids. I mean, I am not exactly some massive bodybuilder, moreso just a middle aged guy who lifted weights since Jr High for fun and enjoyment and went on TRT for medical purposes, definitely not a genetic freak whatsoever in that regard but just from seeing my own levels and seeing how easily I was putting on mass when I first started a low dose of TRT I can buy that someone like Arnold putting the hard work and dedication in could also be hyper responsive to Steroids and would blow up on low doses.
@jiro1281
@jiro1281 Жыл бұрын
@@onewarriornation602 It’s possible. Some people are just hyper responders to steroids, not just steroids but when they inject anything. All comes down to genetics. It’s best though you start doing them when you are at your limit/looking your best naturally and have years of training under your belt.
@robertward5047
@robertward5047 Жыл бұрын
@@jiro1281 exactly, and don't get it twisted. I'm not saying 100% that Arnold isn't lying. He cheated on his wife and he was a politician. Just saying that Greg always gives realistic advice i.e. picture your ideal physique well your not getting it and often says that most people won't look like Ronnie Coleman no matter how much gear they are on yet he struggles to admit that people can look bigger and better than him without being on at least what he is on. Maybe Greg just couldn't look like Arnold no matter how much gear Greg took 🤷‍♂️

@@robertward5047 Well, I can say while he’s a great entertainer and infosource, Greg is just flat out wrong sometimes, it’s not like a hit or miss but there are some videos were he’s incorrect on what he’s trying to preach. There’s a couple other videos I can name where no matter how much evidence or rambling he gives you just get the impression he’s not right this time, and this one may be true. What is undeniable is that back then they were NOT using nearly as much PED’s as we are now and the bodybuilders that came after them, it was very simple classic set of steroids. Sure, they were abusing them, but the amount they used really does make a big difference. And besides, this topic has been debated on for years what they ‘really used’ and ‘how much’ so I don’t give Greg fault if he’s wrong on this one.
@robertward5047
@robertward5047 Жыл бұрын
@@jiro1281 I have another theory. Arnold as a teen took whatever the much older gym bros gave him. Could have been crazy as fuck doses. He doesn't know exactly how much, he was a teenager and wanted to look jacked. Then a few years later he is in his twenties, moves to America and gets an actual doctor to give him stuff. By this time he is already massive and is really just maintaining with some added size some years but going more for cuts other years and coming in 20 lbs lighter than the year before, like in 75. I can imagine by this point he was almost on trt dosages. Coach Greg still looks muscular and he has been on trt for ages. By 1970 Arnold wasn't really still growing. He may be talking about taking 100mg test and maybe that's what he did the last few years of his competitive career and he wouldn't be lying. But he isn't saying what he took as a teenager when he put on the most size. Possibly doesn't know.

Your health advice is incredible, really just got back into lifting a few months ago - doing it right this time. Wish I'd had KZbin in 1988... Actually, Greg, Arnold has addressed your criticism before. He's confessed that he's now lost his passion for his own annual namesake competition- the Arnold Classic -because he can't persuade his judges to alter their grading criteria to reward the achievable, natural physiques just for his event alone. All judges argue that it's critical they not set two different standards for participants to aspire to since the athletes who enter his tournament also compete in the other annual bodybuilding contests as well. The ones in which the freakish, heavily roided-out comic book supervillain physiques have become the standard. He's butted heads with contemporary judges over it for so long by now, and their refusal to budge on it has left him so exhausted and unsatisfied that he really doesn't even enjoy his own contest anymore. He admits to going through the motions and feeling ambivalent about it nowadays. Long story short- he's just the mascot of his own event at this point

I’ve never taken PEDs. I went to a guy for nutrition that won the Mr. South New Jersey. He was very candid. He was shredded like Rich Gaspari when he won. He admitted he didn’t have the genetics to go pro in detail. He also explained that he never felt physically worse in his life than when he won that contest. He also explained that all pros and most all naturals take steroids or at least cycle them when they are “natural.” I asked why pros are not natural. He said, “It is impossible to keep that size at that low a body fat without steroids. When I buy a ticket for the Mr. Olympia, I want to see guys that looked like they walked off a space ship.”

I call it preservatives 😁! Here is the phases we go through as life long lifters. When we are young its all about ego. When we are middle age it becomes more about health, fitness and longevity. No it wouldn’t, cuz no matter what people will always accuse them of being on gear. (Which isn’t wrong most “natural” athletes are still using). But let’s say one of them is natural and has top tier genetics, still nobody would believe him and people would still hop on gear thinking they’ll look like him if they do. First and foremost people need to realize genetics is the most important aspect, and regardless of gear majority of people will never look like top tier natty athletes.

I'd love to see a drug tested body building competition, issue is that I think it would be quite hard to track who is actually natural or have been enhanced in the past. If they have been enhanced in the past they might or might not still benefit from it even months or years after they've been off gear, which is why I'm not sure how well we would be able to implement the strategy unless there would be random tests/monthly tracking. I'd also love to see age brackets for natural body building in main competitions. Sub 30s, 40s, 50s and perhaps up to 60s? Would be so cool to see what we can achieve if we try, despite the aging process.

Please, do not attempt to take the moral high ground of ‘well he/she/they are lying. So what if they are? Focus on yourself. And if you have to utilise somebody else’s way, then adapt it to your needs. There are far to many complainers and critics of what a person can/has or even should do, from a high percentage of non high-achievers.
